Ben Affleck Faces Sexual Misconduct Questions On The Late Show & TODAY — WATCH!

Ben Affleck is facing his sexual harassment accusations head on. As you may know, the 45-year-old actor is currently on a press tour for Justice League -- but interviewers would be remiss to not bring up Affleck's connection to the Harvey Weinstein allegations, as well as his own controversial behavior. On Thursday night, the father of three appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, who didn't hesitate to ask Affleck the tough questions about the clear abuse of power against women in the industry. Even though the celeb nervously quipped, "This is a comedy show, correct?" initially, we applaud him for not shying away -- and encouraging everyone to believe the women (and men!) coming forward. Related: The Justice League Reviews Are In When asked specifically about the disgraced producer who helped begin his career, Jennifer Garner's ex said: "You know, for me, it was awful to see the extent of these terrible crimes. It was hideous. I haven't worked for Harvey in more than 15 years, but nonetheless, I felt this attachment. I did movies like Good Will Hunting, Shakespeare in Love and Chasing Amy—early movies that I really loved doing, when I still was totally brand new. And so, it sort of tainted that a little bit to realize while we were having these experiences and making these movies, there were people who were suffering and dealing with awful experiences. I didn't really know what to do with that, you know? It's hard to know." As we reported, the actor has since decided to donate his residual money from Miramax movies to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) and Film Independent: "I didn't want to sort of cash a check form the guy, and I thought, 'Maybe I can feel OK about it if it's going to a good cause.'" Colbert went on to give Affleck the opportunity to comment on his own allegations of "sexual impropriety" -- to which the Argo star said: "What I was accused of by a woman was of touching her breast while giving her a hug. I don't remember it, but I absolutely apologized for it. I certainly don't think she's lying or making it up. It's just the kind of thing we have to, as men, I think, as we become more aware of this, be really, really mindful of our behavior and hold ourselves accountable and say, 'If I was ever part of the problem, I want to change. I want to be part of the solution.' And to not shy away from these awkward or strange encounters we might have had where we're sort of navigating and not knowing." Referencing a clip that went viral earlier this week, Affleck said: "I just did an interview where somebody asked me a question—it was a serious question, and I kind of felt uncomfortable and didn't know what to say and laughed awkwardly. It's just a tricky thing to try to handle. I think the most important thing to do is to support the voices coming forward, believe them, and create a business where more women are empowered and in place so less of this happens, and so there is a way of reporting this stuff so that people can feel safe doing it." The Oscar winner also acknowledged the privilege he has as a male in the business, explaining: "I thought I had a sense of the scope of the problem and I thought I understood it, and the truth is I really didn't. I didn't understand what it's like to be groped, to be harassed, to be interrupted, talked over, paid less, you know, pushed around, belittled—all the things that women deal with, that for me as a man, I have the privilege of not having to deal with. Part of this, for me, has been listening to people I really care about and love as they tell me stories of stuff that has happened to them—this is men and women—and recognizing it's a real thing. I'm not spokesman. I'm not a superhero. I can't change it by myself. I can just be accountable for myself and my actions." LOUDER FOR THOSE IN THE BACK, BEN!! You can watch the full segment (below): Ben spoke about the same issue on Friday morning with Savannah Guthrie by talking about the current cultural shift because of the courageous #MeToo movement: "It certainly feels like a really important moment. It feels like a time when survivors are finding their voice, and people—and I include include myself in this—are really discovering the terrible extent of this problem here in our country. I certainly don't think it's just limited to Hollywood. But I expect if you see it this prevalent in this industry, it must extend to finance, tech and all those other places, and it's really disturbing. It's also inspiring to see people come forward and assert themselves. That's very moving." As for whether he knew about Harvey's disgusting behavior, the director said: "I knew he was sleazy and kind of a bully, but unfortunately that wasn't that uncommon. I was brand new to Hollywood. I was 24 years old. I had never made a movie. I didn't know much of anything, really. It really is a shame, because although I stopped working with Harvey a long time ago, those movies hold a special place in my heart. To now look back on it and think, 'Gosh, some other people were going through something really ugly, difficult and terrible and disturbing and terrifying while that was happening,' is kind of...I don't know ... The only thing I can think to do is give my residuals from my Harvey movies to a couple of organizations that I think are making a difference, and try to reconcile that. It's a way for me to feel better about that early stage of my career, when I made those movies with him." When Guthrie asked Affleck to set the record straight about Rose McGowan's claim that she told Ben in the past about being attacked by Weinstein, he replied: "I don't really want to get into other people's individual stories, because I feel like those are their stories and they're entitled to tell as much or as little of those as they want. I believe Rose. I support her. I really like and admire her tenacity, and I wish her the best." Related: Jennifer Garner & Casey Affleck Helped Ben Check Into Rehab Ultimately, Ben said he's dedicated to "looking inward" and being accountable for his actions: "That's all you can do, certainly as a man in my position and recognizing how fortunate I am, recognizing the privilege that I have. I'm also really trying to open my eyes and hold myself accountable, because that's all we can really do. It's a lot harder than pointing a finger at everybody else, really asking, 'What have I done that's crossed the line? How can I do better? How can I be more respectful, more inclusive, more mindful of this?' That's the kind of person that I want to be." As for what he would have done differently, the A-lister admitted: "There's plenty of jokes I wouldn't have made, or things I wouldn't have done. It's a time when—and it's happened almost overnight—there's a heightened level of awareness. One of the good things about that is the self-consciousness of, 'How am I fitting into the world here? How are my actions affecting other people? How is this interaction going to leave this person feeling?' It's easy to sort of gloss over that stuff and get self-involved. The hard thing is really, as I said, to be mindful and live in the present moment." Watch his interview on TODAY (below): While we think Ben's past actions are inexcusable, we do appreciate him stepping into the dialogue and acknowledging his wrongdoing head-on, while calling for empowerment of women. These are the tough conversations we should all be having! P.S. to end on a light note, watch Ben reveal that Donald Trump would demand to appear in any movies filmed at his properties (lol) (below)! She alleges they met at a USO show for service members, where they had to perform a sketch that he wrote. The sketch featured a kiss. “He said to me, ‘We need to rehearse the kiss.’ I laughed and ignored him. Then he said it again. I said something like, ‘Relax Al, this isn’t SNL…we don’t need to rehearse the kiss’,” she said (via NBC News.) “He continued to insist, and I was beginning to get uncomfortable.” “[He came at me, put his hand on the back of my head, mashed his lips against mine and aggressively stuck his tongue in my mouth,” she continued. “I immediately pushed him away with both of my hands against his chest and told him if he ever did that to me again I wouldn’t be so nice about it the next time,” she said. “I felt disgusted and violated.” Click inside to read his apology statement… “The first thing I want to do is apologize: to Leeann, to everyone else who was part of that tour, to everyone who has worked for me, to everyone I represent, and to everyone who counts on me to be an ally and supporter and champion of women. There’s more I want to say, but the first and most important thing—and if it’s the only thing you care to hear, that’s fine—is: I’m sorry. I respect women. I don’t respect men who don’t. And the fact that my own actions have given people a good reason to doubt that makes me feel ashamed. But I want to say something else, too. Over the last few months, all of us—including and especially men who respect women—have been forced to take a good, hard look at our own actions and think (perhaps, shamefully, for the first time) about how those actions have affected women. For instance, that picture. I don’t know what was in my head when I took that picture, and it doesn’t matter. There’s no excuse. I look at it now and I feel disgusted with myself. It isn’t funny. It’s completely inappropriate. It’s obvious how Leeann would feel violated by that picture. And, what’s more, I can see how millions of other women would feel violated by it—women who have had similar experiences in their own lives, women who fear having those experiences, women who look up to me, women who have counted on me. Coming from the world of comedy, I’ve told and written a lot of jokes that I once thought were funny but later came to realize were just plain offensive. But the intentions behind my actions aren’t the point at all. It’s the impact these jokes had on others that matters. And I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to come to terms with that. “While I don’t remember the rehearsal for the skit as Leeann does, I understand why we need to listen to and believe women’s experiences. “I am asking that an ethics investigation be undertaken, and I will gladly cooperate. “And the truth is, what people think of me in light of this is far less important than what people think of women who continue to come forward to tell their stories. They deserve to be heard, and believed. And they deserve to know that I am their ally and supporter. I have let them down and am committed to making it up to them.” Via Fox.....»»

The 78-year-old journalist was accused of making unwanted advances by Linda Vester in a Variety exclusive on Friday (April 27). Tom has since written a lengthy defense and denial of the accusations in an email obtained by The Hollywood Reporter on the same day. “I am angry, hurt and unmoored from what I thought would be the final passage of my life and career, a mix of written and broadcast journalism, philanthropy and participation in environmental and social causes that have always given extra meaning to my life,” he wrote. “I am facing a long list of grievances from a former colleague who left NBC News angry that she had failed in her pursuit of stardom. She has unleashed a torrent of unsubstantiated criticism and attacks on me.” See his full email below, via THR. It is 4:00 am on the first day of my new life as an accused predator in the universe of American journalism. I was ambushed and then perp walked across the pages of The Washington Post and Variety as an avatar of male misogyny, taken to the guillotine and stripped of any honor and achievement I had earned in more than a half century of journalism and citizenship. I am angry, hurt and unmoored from what I thought would be the final passage of my life and career, a mix of written and broadcast journalism, philanthropy and participation in environmental and social causes that have always given extra meaning to my life. Instead I am facing a long list of grievances from a former colleague who left NBC News angry that she had failed in her pursuit of stardom. She has unleashed a torrent of unsubstantiated criticism and attacks on me more than twenty years after I opened the door for her and a new job at Fox news. Linda Vester was given the run of the Washington Post and Variety to vent her grievances, to complain that I tickled her without permission (you read that right), that I invaded her hotel room, accepted an invitation to her apartment under false pretenses and in general was given a free hand to try to destroy all that I have achieved with my family, my NBC career, my writing and my citizenship. My family and friends are stunned and supportive. My NBC colleagues are bewildered that Vester, who had limited success at NBC News, a modest career at Fox and a reputation as a colleague who had trouble with the truth was suddenly the keeper of the flame of journalistic integrity. Her big charge: that on two occasions more than 20 years ago I made inappropriate and uninvited appearances in her apartment and in a hotel room. As an eager beginner, Vester, like others in that category, was eager for advice and camaraderie with senior colleagues. She often sought me out for informal meetings, including the one she describes in her New York hotel room. I should not have gone but I emphatically did not verbally and physically attack her and suggest an affair in language right out of pulp fiction. She was coy, not frightened, filled with office gossip including a recent rumor of an affair. As that discussion advanced she often reminded me she was a Catholic and that she was uncomfortable with my presence. So I left, 23 years later to be stunned by her melodramatic description of the meeting. A year or so later, as I passed through London after covering end of WWII ceremonies in Moscow, I saw her in the office, chatted and agreed to a drink later. (If NY was so traumatic, why a reunion?) She knew a bar but by that late hour it was closed so she suggested her nearby apartment (not, “Well, no where to go. See you tomorrow”). Again, her hospitality was straight forward with lots of pride in her reporting in the Congo and more questions about NY opportunities. As I remember, she was at one end of a sofa, I was at the other. It was late and I had been up for 24 hours. As I got up to leave I may have leaned over for a perfunctory goodnight kiss but my memory is that it happened at the door – on the cheek. No clenching her neck. That move she so vividly describes is NOT WHO I AM. Not in high school, college or thereafter. She came to NY and had mixed success on the overnight news. As I remember her try out on TODAY did not go well. Her contract was not renewed. Here is a part of her story she somehow left out. I think I saw her in the hallways and asked how it was going. She was interested in cable start up and I said I didn’t think that was going anywhere. What about Fox, which was just building up? She was interested and followed me to my office where, while she listened in, I called Roger Ailes. He said, “send her over.” She got the job. I never heard from her or saw her again. I was aware that she became a big fan of Ailes, often praising his considerable broadcasting instincts in public. But when he got in trouble on sexual matters, not a peep from this woman who now describes her self as the keeper of the flame for Me:Too. I am not a perfect person. I’ve made mistakes, personally and professionally. But as I write this at dawn on the morning after a drive by shooting by Vester, the Washington Post and Variety, I am stunned by the free ride given a woman with a grudge against NBC News, no distinctive credentials or issue passions while at FOX. As a private citizen who married a wealthy man she has been active in social causes but she came to Me:Too late, portraying herself as a den mother. In the intervening years since we met on those two occasions, she had no reason to worry I could affect her career. Some of her relatives by marriage are very close friends. She couldn’t pick up the phone and say, “I’d like to talk. I have issues from those two meetings 20 years ago?” Instead she became a character assassin. Strip away all of the hyperbole and what has she achieved? What was her goal? Hard to believe it wasn’t much more Look At Me than Me:Too. I deeply resent the pain and anger she inflicted on my wife, daughters and granddaughters – all women of considerable success and passion about women’s rights which they personify in their daily lives and professions. We’ll go on as a family that pursues social justice in medical emergency rooms, corporate offices, social therapy, African women’s empowerment and journalism. And no one woman’s assault can take that away. I am proud of who I am as a husband, father, grandfather, journalist and citizen. Vester, the Washington Post and Variety cannot diminish that. But in this one woman piece of sensational claims they are trying. Tom Brokaw.....»»

Four Women Come Forward With Very Disturbing Sexual Violence Allegations Against FYF Founder Sean Carlson

Now we're learning this is a result of four disturbing allegations of sexual misconduct against the fest's founder, Sean Carlson. In an exposé in SPIN, three anonymous and one named women detailed their alleged aggressive experiences with the music promoter, who allegedly attacked all of them between 2010 and 2015. Incident number one involves former freelance music photographer, Natasha Ryan, who claims Carlson forced himself on her at a VIP after-party in a casino suite in Las Vegas. Related: Joy Bryant Reveals She Was Born As The Result Of A Sexual Assault She told the outlet: "This guy just kept coming up to me and trying to take my bra top off and I had to keep batting him away. I didn't know who he was. I was just hoping he'd leave me alone ... He just started grabbing me and trying to kiss me and was trying to pull me into the bathroom to make out with me. I kept saying, ‘Stop, get off me,' and he kept saying, ‘But you're just too cute to not make out with.' He finally backed off after I pushed him off again." When asked why she didn't come forward at the time, Ryan said: "I didn't want to say anything back then because I was still shooting for magazines and publications and Fuck Yeah Fest is really big. I just felt like, ‘I need to get the photos done.' … I knew I had been violated but I didn't know if I should call the police or tell anyone. I thought no one would care and that my incident was isolated." The unnamed woman from the second incident shared her story of allegedly being assaulted by Carlson at a party in Los Angeles in 2013. After allegedly forcing himself into the restroom while she was urinating, she said Carlson trapped her: "I turn around, and his erect penis is just out of his pants. I remember trying to bargain with him, rationalize with him, like, ‘Hey, you're a really cool guy, let's go on a date first, I don't wanna do this, I'm not ready to do this, please, let's not do this' and he kept asking me to kiss his penis. I think that's when I realized, oh my God, this is not okay, this is really a problem and I'm scared. I felt trapped—I mean, I was trapped. So he just kept demanding that I kiss his penis, and I did. In my mind, I was like, ‘Maybe I'll just do this and he'll let me go,' which in retrospect does not make sense. But at that time I was super panicked and I just couldn't believe what was happening." She went on: "So I did it and I stood up. He kept his hand on the door and I kept trying to pull the door open," she says. She happened to be wearing a long dress and no underwear. "He lifted up my dress, and his erect penis was touching my butt. I just felt like, ‘Oh my god, this guy is about to enter me, what the fuck is happening right now.'" She was ultimately able to escape the bathroom, but says Carlson quickly caught up to her: "Before I realize where to go, he came out behind me and pulled by my wrists onto this couch that was in the front of the house—completely in the front of the house, so nobody in the back at the party could hear us at all. I didn't scream, I didn't yell, I was just in disbelief that this was happening. But even if I had, I don't know that anybody would have heard me. He pulled me on top of him, he had me pinned down by my wrists. I'm struggling to get away and he's like, trying to kiss me. And then somebody opened the back door, thank God, because that sound startled him and he loosened his grip on my wrists and I was able to pull free." She says Carlson later sent her a series of texts after the incident, one of which said: "Hey [Beth], I owe you an apology how I acted last night. It wasn't ok and I want you to know that I am sorry. I hope that I can show you in the future that I am a good person. And we hopefully we [sic] cross paths soon. I will make you smile and laugh. Have a good day : )" Several days later, the woman filed a police report but did not ultimately press charges: "The thought of having at least one more year of going through this again and again really was not something I was able to do at that time." Then there's incident number three, during which another unidentified woman says Carlson got "pretty wasted" and crossed the line at a party in 2015. She claimed: "He came up and we had a friendly conversation, and then [he] kind of just stuck his tongue down my throat, forcibly made out with me. I pulled back and resisted the first time, and he didn't really seem to get it and went in a second time, and I think a third time." At another party months later, she said Carlson followed her into a bathroom: "I went into the bathroom at some point and he forced his way in behind me and tried to make out with me. I pushed him out and rejected him." Outside the party with another friend, the woman said she accepted Carlson's offer for both of them to hop in his Uber: "He had just done something really gross, but on the other hand, he was offering to do something really nice. And the fact that I had somebody with me who was really close to me, I felt like I was going to be in a safe space. But as soon as the car pulled up, [Carlson] very forcibly suggested that my friend get in the front seat, and leave us two in the back." The victim remembered being groped by Carlson the rest of the way home, despite her saying no. Lastly, the fourth woman says Carlson was inappropriate with her while at a concert in Los Angeles: "As the night went on, Sean was just getting a little bit in my face, being overly flirty ... I kept trying to jokingly say ‘no' in a way that wouldn't be embarrassing, ‘cause it was a group of us so I didn't want to make it uncomfortable ... And then at one point, he just decided it was okay to kiss me. I had told him to stop getting into my zone a few times before, and I had to push him away." Other guys in the group apparently intervened and pulled Carlson off the woman. The music promoter has since responded to the allegations -- read his full statement (below): "Incident 4 is true. Incident 3 is generally true, but I did not follow the individual into a bathroom. My conduct in both of these incidents was inexcusable. The descriptions in Incidents 1 and 2 both contain serious misstatements and omissions. However, on both occasions I acted inappropriately and shamefully, and deeply regret my actions. I am genuinely, unequivocally sorry. I lay fault at no one's feet but my own. I am ashamed by how I acted and feel terrible for the pain that I have caused. Actions speak louder than words. In December 2015, my years of recklessness and selfishness hit a breaking point; I had to make a promise to family and friends that I would change, or risk finally exhausting what remained of their compassion and support. I gave up alcohol for good, I embraced therapy, and I asked, sincerely, that my family and friends forgive me. Nevertheless, these corrective actions do not excuse my reprehensible conduct, and are small solace to those whose pain I am so sorry to have caused." Wow. Thoughts?? SOUND OFF in the comments (below)! [Image via Facebook/Instagram.].....»»

Broad City Stars "Take Accountability" For Using "White Dude Power" To Bring Show To TV

In a recent interview with EW Radio on SiriusXM, Broad City stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson address former Louis C.K. manager Dave Becky's involvement with their show. After the New York Times published a shocking report where five women tell stories of sexual misconduct against the Louie star, the comedian responded by saying these accounts "are true." Days later, Becky -- a manager at 3 Arts Entertainment -- apologized "for not listening to and not understanding what happened to [C.K. accusers] Dana [Min Goodman] and Julia [Wolov]." Related: Louis C.K. Projects Have Been Scrapped In regards to Broad City, Becky is one of the show's producers through his professional relationship with Amy Poehler, who helped bring the program to TV. According to Jacobson, the two are "figuring out" how to properly tackle the "upsetting" controversy: "It's definitely something that we're figuring out right now. He's not our manager. And he's been a producer on the show through Amy from the beginning. And it's like this upsetting thing to find out his involvement in the whole thing, so it's definitely something that we're constantly talking about right now." Although she is not responsible for C.K. or Becky's actions, Glazer takes "accountability" for using Dave's "white dude power" to advance her and Jacobson's TV careers: "We take accountability for using this white dude power to get our show on TV. We're accountable for that. We're not accountable for Louie's actions, for Becky's actions, but we're accountable for using his power to get our show on TV." Truly a messy situation... Here’s what the 25-year-old model had to share with the mag: On why she created Kode with Klossy: “I remember when you launched the movie for Every Mother Counts, No Woman, No Cry, in 2011, and watching a morning show where you were talking about the documentary. I must have been 18 years old, and I realized there was an opportunity to do more not only for myself but for others.” On how coding became a part of her life: “I ended up in a class in 2014 because I was curious about this language that a handful of people knew and were able to use to build things. After the first year of learning how to code, I put out on my social media platforms an offer for scholarships for 20 girls to learn the same. I got 1,000 entries for those spots.” On what she finds meaningful about teaching coding: “There’s a real confidence that comes with learning something challenging. They’re recognizing their potential in an industry in which they previously hadn’t seen themselves.” For more from Karlie, visit TownandCountryMag.com......»»

How's that going? When it comes to Trump's manufacturing council, not very well. Related: Late Night Sounds Off On Trump's Inability To Condemn White Supremacists 45's failure to immediately condemn the alt-right Nazis and their violent actions in Charlottesville -- and continued failure to call it out as domestic terrorism -- has led to a fourth CEO leaving the Manufacturing Jobs Initiative, following execs for Merck, Under Armour, and Intel. This time it's Scott Paul of the Alliance For American Manufacturing, a nonprofit founded to help keep manufacturing jobs in the United States, who tweeted: I'm resigning from the Manufacturing Jobs Initiative because it's the right thing for me to do. — Scott Paul (@ScottPaulAAM) August 15, 2017 BTW, Paul is a Democrat who was unhappy with the difference between the trade policies of candidate Barack Obama and President Obama. Clearly he must realize by now that Trump is not the man to help anyone. Photos: Protesters Flock To Trump Tower After Charlottesville! How is Trump responding to all these companies publicly shaming him? He called them out as "grandstanders" on Tuesday, tweeting: For every CEO that drops out of the Manufacturing Council, I have many to take their place. Grandstanders should not have gone on. JOBS! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 15, 2017 Really? All-caps and monosyllabic. He sure knows how to woo his base. Meanwhile, several companies are staying. GE, Dow Chemical, Whirlpool, Campbell Soup, International Paper, and Nucor all released statements condemning racism and intolerance -- but said essentially that their participation on the council was too important to quit in protest. (Dell just said there was "no change" to its status quo with Trump.) This is the same problem as with Republicans during the election. Everyone is fine condemning the consistently awful things Trump says, but they're too afraid of losing a seat at the table to actually distance themselves from the POTUS. Well, it's time to take a stand, boys. Because if you're not going to expressly denounce this man and his actions, you're turning a blind eye and letting it happen. Sound familiar?
