Looking Back on How World War I Impacted Hollywood, 100 Years Later

Nov. 11 marks the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, the end of World War I. The Second World War endures as part of our collective DNA, because filmmakers dealt with it extensively at the time, and continue to do so. Shangela: The Socialite Life Interview

The most shocking moment in the season premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race occurred when season two contestant Shangela (a/k/a Shangela Laquifa Wadley, the Debutantess of the Deep South) returned to compete for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar”. Although she may not have as much experience as her fellow competitors, she’s surely got just as much heart and passion for performing. You can’t not be in a good mood when you talk to Shangela! We chatted with Shangela about her return to Drag Race, how she got her start as a drag entertainer and her future plans. With her infectious personality and homegrown charm, it’s easy to see how this queen got a second chance to compete for the title! Shangela: Halleloo, somebody! Socialite Life: Halleloo! Hi Shangela! How are you? Shangela: I am fabulous! How are you today? SL: I’m great because I’m talking to you! Shangela: Aww, yay! Thank you for that, I appreciate that. SL: I was so happy to see you come back on RuPaul’s Drag Race Shangela: Well, honey, only half as happy as I was to be back! SL: On the premiere, they made sure to let the viewers (and the other queens) know that you had to audition again to get on Drag Race 3. Shangela: That’s right, just like everyone else! You know, there were tons and tons of applicants – even more than the first two years – this year, so the competition was stiffer. But, you know, I felt like I worked so hard over the last year and why not? I really wanted to come back and show that I am America’s Next Drag Superstar – not because I’m specialized in one specific area, just because I work hard in all of the different areas. I feel like I’ve been in “drag boot camp” over the last year! So, I was excited to put in an audition tape and hopefully come back and I was just lucky that RuPaul felt the same way. SL: What was it like to get that second chance? Shangela: Girl! I’ll tell you this, the day I got the call, I really, really almost didn’t believe it because, going on the show, doing the second season, I’d only been doing drag for five months – and to get a huge honor like that to compete with 12 other of the best divas out there, I already had such a great opportunity. And I was only on one episode, you know this, but I worked it as hard as I could over the next year, just to get better and take what I learned from that one episode and go farther. So, I was like, “I’m going to try this” and to get that call saying “We’re going to bring you back” and you get another shot at this – it’s a second chance at life really. And you play it in your head like, “Okay, what am I going to do better? How am I going to turn this time?”, but it’s so much more pressure too because when you get a second chance, I feel people judge you more critically. View this post on Instagram Last night I joined @EqualityUtah to help raise more than $160,000 for LGBTQ activism and work. Swipe right to see some great pics from the night with @tanfrance @danreynolds of Imagine Dragons @senatorjimdabakis and Savannah, the outspoken young teen that courageously came out to her Mormon church. Let’s keep standing united to end conversion therapy everywhere and make our community even stronger. Halleloo! (And can I take a quick sec to feel my oats about Dan Reynolds standing and jammin to my live performance of Uptown Fish last night lol) A post shared by Shangela (DJ) (@itsshangela) on Nov 4, 2018 at 7:14am PST SL: Was the reaction of the other girls when they first saw you this season creative editing or did they really have those expressions on their faces when they laid eyes on you? Shangela: Girl, if it was creative editing, I need to hire that person to get the reactions for everything I say in life! Those were the most real expressions on their faces – you know, I jump out of a Christmas box – first of all, I look like “jack-in-the-box Shangela” – and I come popping out of this box and to see all of those faces, their jaws were just on the ground. And I thought that – you know me, I’m Shangela, I hug everybody – so I’m like “Hey, I’m back! How is everybody?” and everyone’s looking at me like, “Who? Oh, really?” SL: Do you feel like the competition is stiffer this season? Shangela: Well, you know, I was only there for one episode last season and this year’s girls are a completely different batch from last year’s girls. I can’t really comparatively judge them – but I can tell you that this year’s girls were sickening! Because as more people are competing, Ru and the judges – and everyone who chooses the contestants on the show – they’re having to see everyone pulling out the best of the best. So, definitely, it was a tough competition and these girls are stiff competition, period. SL: So, let’s talk about you. How did you get your start in drag? Shangela: Well, you know, this is pretty much my anniversary month. I’ve been doing drag now for exactly two years but going on the show, I’d only been doing it for 4 months. I kind of fell into it, to be honest with you. I was choreographing a number, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”, for these three guys who were doing a charity event here in West Hollywood and, the night before the guys were to go on, one of them got sick. So they called me and said (of course, I wasn’t Shangela yet), “DJ, is there any way you can help us out? You know all of the steps and we really want to do this as a trio” and I’m thinking, “I don’t have any wigs, I don’t have any makeup.” But…well, you know, I’m gay, honey! So, just a man around the corner has a wig, a dress, something in your size, a bra, some pads…and the next thing you know, I was filling in for him. And the guy who runs the show said, “I would love for you to come back and I would love to book you for our show” and I said “Oh, this isn’t my thing. I’m not a drag performer, I was just filling in” and he said, “You can win money” And girl, you know we’re in a recession! (Laughs) But, to be honest with you, I’ve always been a performer. I’ve been a backup dancer for some of the best drag queens in the business back in Texas and I always watched them and I learned by watching but I just love to entertain. So I say it chose me and I fell into it and now I’m just loving it. View this post on Instagram LaQuifa HOME Collection A post shared by Shangela (DJ) (@itsshangela) on Oct 6, 2018 at 3:17am PDT SL: How did the character of Shangela come to life – and how would you describe her? Shangela: Well, she’s evolved, okay? (Laughs) I’ll tell you this – Shangela is a little bit bougy, but she’s also your homegirl. I’ve always stuck to that and I also have affectionately titled myself “The Debutantess of the Deep South” – and that speaks a lot about Shangela. Shangela is sweet, she’s somewhat refined but she’s also your girl from the block. Anybody you want to call or go out with – the party girl who’s going to tell it like it is – that’s Shangela. SL: I saw you do stand up on Logo and I thought you were hilarious! Is that something you had done before you started doing drag? Shangela: Well, you know, the really cool thing is – and I don’t know if you know this – but before I went on Drag Race, I’d been working a 9-to-5 office life in PR for the last couple of years and, you know, sometimes you just feel – I don’t know if you ever feel like this – but I felt like this just isn’t everything that I want out of my life. It’s great, it works for a lot of people but, for me, I felt almost trapped. I was getting up at seven to be on the road by eight, be at the office by nine and then leave at six, get home at seven, go to bed at ten to get back up at seven – you know? And that was every day of the week and I just felt like when I got the opportunity to go on Drag Race, this was my shot. And my job told me, “If you go there, we’re not going to be able to keep your job for you”, so I quit – in the middle of a recession – and that’s not an easy thing to do but when you have a passion, sometimes you’ve got to step out on a little bit of faith – halleloo! So that’s what I did, and luckily, it worked out really well for me. It opened the door for me. I didn’t go back to work…here’s the thing, when I left to go on Drag Race, I was like, “Baby, yes, I’m going to win this. I’m going to take care of my family and I’m going to be the next drag superstar” – and I went home after the first episode. And I kind of had a little moment of shock like, “Oh my God, what have I done? I quit my job. I don’t have any checks coming in. What’s going on?” – but that opened the door for me to really do what I’m supposed to do with my life – and that’s being an entertainer. I started doing stand up comedy at a couple of clubs here in Los Angeles and they picked me up at The Comedy Store. They said, “We think you’re funny. We want you to come every two weeks.” and from there, they cast me to do stand up comedy and host the Logo comedy special. So all of that’s kind of come as a result of me following my dreams – and starting it with Drag Race. SL: Do you think being able to do stand up is a benefit to your drag career? Shangela: Oh my God, yes! Any time I can be on a stage and perform is a benefit to my career. Any time that I can make someone else laugh or touch someone’s life – because you really don’t know how much laughter impacts our world, it really does. And that’s what I think I bring to my everyday life…you ask my friends, honey, their stomachs are hurting all of the time because we just sit around and laugh! But I love to bring that to the stage so I think that, yeah, being in drag definitely helps me have more experiences that are crazy and funny – and I can take them right to the stage. SL: When you’re on stage, what do you enjoy the most about performing? Shangela: It’s the connection that you get with the audience. You know, a lot of people can put a great look together and get on stage and they look gorgeous and they do their song – if it’s a lip sync – or they do their form of entertainment; but if you don’t connect with the audience, then the people in the audience don’t get the full experience of being at the show. And that’s what I bring every time I hit the stage – that’s what I really want to bring is an experience. It’s not just, “I’m going to see Shangela”. It’s “I’m going to experience Shangela” and that’s what you get! That’s what I love about being on stage, the way you can really connect with people in the audience and have a good time! SL: As far as inspirations for your drag performances – do you have any? Shangela: Oh, definitely! I have so many because I’m new – so everything is so wide-eyed to me. I get so much from so many different people. I look at people’s fashion or I look at the way people bring fire to the stage, there’s always me in the performance but a lot of times – especially makeup, honey! I have a drag mother who I got after I started doing drag – but I used to dance back-up for her. Her name is Alyssa Edwards out of Dallas, Texas. Now she is the most winningest…can I say, bitch? She is the most winningest bitch in captivity, okay? She has won every pageant because she’s refined and what I have in entertainment I’ve had to really try and gather fast to meet that or match it with refinement, with makeup and the ability to sew and create costumes and just to be organized with your drag – because it can be a lot. So, I learned a lot from her. I’ve learned a little from afar by watching Ru as a businessperson – making drag, not just a past time or a hobby – but, as I said, I left my job and this is what I do full-time now. It’s now a business. It’s about marketing, it’s about branding, it’s about connecting to your fans, it’s about being fresh, new and re-inventing yourself – and that’s what I hope to continue to bring. SL: Do you think your background in PR has helped you in your drag career? Shangela: You know, my background in life helps it out! And, I’m just fortunate – definitely the PR piece, because you can go into a meeting and people are talking about, “We’re going to do these t-shirts with you” and you can know that there needs to be a strategy behind just putting some t-shirts together. There needs to be a business model that works with doing everything in drag – you know, a big misconception about drag queens is that this is what they’ve done all of their lives. And there are some drag queens who have – and that’s great for them – but I know drag queens who are attorneys, I know drag queens who, you know, have full, married lives and have children and I know drag queens who are creative in the arts – artists, stylists, everything – we come from all walks of life. So I think a lot of us – including myself – bring what we have from our background and put it into our drag to make us successful. SL: Were you able to learn anything or take anything away from this season’s experience? Shangela: A check! (Laughs) I’m telling you, what I always take away from last year’s experience on Drag Race and this year’s experience on Drag Race is not only the connection, the family with the other girls – because you know there are some catty bitches in that room, okay? There are! And they will fight tooth and nail to get to the top, as when you’re in a competition you sometimes have to. But what the viewers at home don’t get to see is that after the show and even during in the show, we develop such great relationships between a couple of us – and that’s what I love – the sisterhood of drag – because you can’t get far without helping someone else and someone else has to bump you and that’s what I really believe in. I get so many emails and so many calls from new drag queens on the scene – because I think that’s part of the genre of the group that I represent as well because I’m so new – and fierce! I really have to be a role model for them and I think it’s important that we help each other – and, on the show, you don’t get to see it, but we’ve built a great sisterhood there – a family. SL: What kind of advice are you giving to these aspiring drag queens? Shangela: Well, I’d say watch, listen, learn and always do you! That’s it! You can watch a lot of people – but you don’t want to become anyone else – the whole thing about drag is that its self-expression. It’s unleashed, okay? Anything that you think that can’t be done in drag…yes, it can! If you’re a nasty, stank ho and you want to get on the stage…that’s you’re drag – you do you! That’s not Shangela! But you do you! And that’s my advice to all of them. Makeup…that’s the “watch, listen, learn” part – the makeup, the putting yourself together, the hoe to be organized, the how to make it work…but when you get on stage, ain’t nobody there but you and the lights! So you have to do you! SL: Is there a lot of DJ in Shangela? Shangela: Yes, but Shangela takes it to the next level – a different level. In my day-to-day life, I’m entertaining, I’m funny, I love my friends, we have a good time, that kind of thing…yes! Shangela’s more of an all out-there partier. You’re going to see me on the stage at the club, having a good time, toasting it up with the girls. I’m a little bit louder – if you can even imagine that because I’m mighty loud today! But, I just take it up a notch and when you’re a girl – or when you’re putting on an illusion – it’s a full-on illusion to me. When you meet Shangela, you get the Shangela voice, the Shangela essence, the Shangela smell – I mean, I am Juicy Couture fish! I love just putting all of that together as Shangela. Now, in my day-to-day life, I’m not so glamorous all of the time. Right now, I’m just sitting here – I just helped my friend with a photo shoot this morning at the LA river, and I’m very “call me up, I’ll help anyone” and I was holding a reflector, I’ve got my hair snatched back in a bun with a baseball cap on with sunglasses – that’s the farthest thing from glamour that you can get! But you’ll never see Shangela in a pair of sweats – I don’t even show up at the club in a pair of tennis shoes, no ma’am! SL: What do you think separates you from the other queens this season? View this post on Instagram #AStarIsBorn #UKPremiere Dress: @diegomontoya3d; Styled by: @derekanthonypurcell Hair: @ashleiiman; Hair Styled by @justmaydoes; Jewelry: Maria Isabel; Body Bronzer: @bludline A post shared by Shangela (DJ) (@itsshangela) on Sep 27, 2018 at 2:13pm PDT Shangela: We’re all very, very different. You’ve seen the first episode, you can already see a lot of the really sharp differences. I think what sets me apart is that…well, two things. One, I’ve been in this setting before, so I feel like I have something to prove this time around. So, the fire in me, I feel is burning a little bit brighter – it’s a little bit hotter because I feel like I have so much to prove…I have a huge weight on my shoulders, being brought back to represent those who haven’t been doing it for a long time, to say it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing something, you can still rock it and you can be the fiercest bitch in the room! It’s not years of experience, it’s how hard you’re willing to work, and I think that’s what really sets me apart in this room is that I’m here to work – and that is W-E-R-Q! – with the exclamation point! I’m going to work, so I think that’s what sets me apart. I don’t want to be the baby of the group this time around even though I have the least amount of experience in drag. I’m nobody’s baby. My years of experience are less than the other girls, but then again, the fire is burning hot and somebody better step back or you’re going to get burned! SL: What would people be surprised to know about you? Shangela: I’m a very open book, a lot of people don’t know that I’m from Paris, Texas. I tell everyone that as soon as I meet them, but they look at me and say, “You don’t have a Texas twang.” Well, you know, give me a bucket of chicken and a Coca-Cola and the next thing you know, I’m just as country as can be! But, I am from Paris, Texas. It’s a very small town and I grew up with my grandparents and my Mom came back from the military and I grew up with her in a single-family home and I really worked a lot to have the experiences in my life that I’ve had. But you wouldn’t know that I’ve worked on the hill for a year or that I studied abroad in Madrid in art history…nobody wants to know all of that, they just want to see what you have on the stage. But there are so many layers to me, and I love just sharing a lot and everything about me, so there’s not a lot people don’t know about me – if you choose to get to know me. SL: How would you describe your look? Shangela: Sickening – that’s pretty much the way you would describe my look! To be honest with you, I think that my look just…there’s so many looks because it’s drag…the everyday Shangela is glamour and homegirl – all together. It’s glamour girl from the streets – because, with me, I always keep it real. I can have on the Alexander McQueen, straight off the runway, and look fish sickening boots – and we can still roll in that to the Taco Bell. That’s who I am and that essence of me keeping it real just comes with everything – and I think that’s the best way that you can connect with people – there are no walls, there is no diva attitude – I am a diva, make no mistake, when I come into a room, I feel like it’s important to say, “I’m here”, but you don’t have to say that out loud to do that, you just have to walk in and be – and that’s Shangela. SL: What does the future hold for Shangela? Shangela: Well, specifically, on the show, I want to win – so, my aspiration is to go home as America’s Next Drag Superstar. In addition to that, I really just want to be able to show that there’s so many different talents to drag queens to me, as Shangela, that I hope I’m able to express to the full extent on the show. I’m a comedian, I’m an entertainer, I’m a host – I would love after the show to go on and represent – whether it be brands or a show host, having someone sitting on my couch every week and keeping it real and talking. Be the Andy Cohen, have a Life on the D List – I live here in Los Angeles and I am a diva on the rise. So, with all of those experiences, people should be able to see those and experience those as well and hopefully, one day, I’ll have a platform to share that with them. SL: Do you have any interest in a singing career? Shangela: You know, I think that a lot of girls have done great with their careers, from season two especially – and season one. I know that my sister Sahara Davenport just put out a new single “Pump with Me” which is kick-ass, it’s a dance track. And I love to sing, I’m a Tina Turner fanatic. But I think where I’m going to start is by doing a one-woman show and my calling is entertaining people, making people laugh. Whether it’s singing, putting out a hot dance track – you know, I can disco dance – and I love the Pussycat Dolls – bringing that kind of fire to the stage. But I’m really going to focus on entertaining any way I can right now. If it comes later in a song, it comes later in a song – but I’ve got to write it, it’s got to come from me because I feel that only I can really have my voice and we’re just going to work it out. SL: Are you going to continue doing stand up? Shangela: Yes! Most definitely. I’m bringing a show to New York, I think it’s going to be at Caroline’s on Broadway later this spring so I’m really about that. I work here at The Comedy Store and we just started a new night at Hamburger Mary’s in West Hollywood, and I’m hosting that show as well. You know, I do those shows in drag and out of drag and it’s always a good time! SL: Are you planning on touring after the show? Shangela: Oh, honey, I’m touring! I just launched a new website, Shangela.com – please send everybody and their grandmother to it! It has my entire touring schedule there. I’m on the move, honey! SL: Besides your website, is there any other way fans can keep in touch with you? Shangela: Most definitely! You know, I’m a Tweet from the street, girl! You can follow me on Twitter @itsShangela and on my Facebook fan page! Oh, my God, I have to tell you about the new film! I’m in this new film, as Shangela, called Body of a Barbie, okay? It’s a short film we produced in Los Angeles and it got picked up by BET, it aired last fall, and it’s actually now in the top seven finalists of the BET Lens on Talent program. So, they had this huge competition for short films and our film was in the top seven in the US. It’s called Body of a Barbie and it’ll be back on BET this spring and I’m really excited about that. SL: Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I thought you were awesome on Terriers! Shangela: Oh, thank you! That was my first guest starring role and the writers were so awesome. You know, when I auditioned, I was only on three pages of script, and when I got to San Diego to film it, they thought that the character needed more involvement in the show and it went from three pages to 28 pages of a 42 page script and I wanted to bring the fire, because that episode was directed by Adam Arkin and he was fabulous to work with and they were so great and so respectful and I got to be in drag and out of drag and it’s done a lot of great things for me. Actually, I’m going to be on an episode of this show on ABC called Detroit 1-8-7. We just shot that – me, Coco Peru and Jai Rodriguez – and it airs February 15th on ABC. SL: Thank you so much for your time and good luck with everything! Shangela: Aww, thank you! I wish I could give you a big hug! Halleloo! This article was originally published on January 25, 2011. The Second World War endures as part of our collective DNA, because filmmakers dealt with it extensively at the time, and continue to do so. Harry Connick Jr. & Wife Jill Goodacre Open Up About The Model"s Secret Five-Year Breast Cancer Battle

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. In October 2012, Harry Connick Jr.'s wife Jill Goodacre became one of those women. In October 2012, Harry Connick Jr.'s wife Jill Goodacre became one of those women. For a candid chat with People, the twosome opened up about the retired Victoria's Secret angel's five-year cancer battle. Oh man. Related: Julia Louis-Dreyfus Gives A Breast Cancer Battle Update According to the mag, Jill learned of her breast cancer diagnosis during a routine checkup. Although the model's annual mammogram came back clear, her doctor advised her to have a sonogram just to be safe. It was during this procedure that something was detected. The industry vet shared: "They said, ‘Okay, looks good. Since you have dense breasts, just go across the hall for your sonogram.'" After the sonogram, Goodacre underwent a biopsy and learned that she had Stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma. Jill immediately had a lumpectomy and started radiation. As Harry lost his mother at 13 to ovarian cancer, the hitmaker was terrified of his wife's diagnosis. The former American Idol judge explained: "I was scared I was going to lose her, absolutely. I wasn't going to let her see that, but I was. I know from losing my mom that the worst can happen. She's my best friend, and I really don't know what I would do without her." As for Jill, it just "broke [her] heart" to tell her daughters -- Georgia (21), Sara Kate (20), and Charlotte (15) -- about the cancer. Although Goodacre never underwent chemotherapy, her treatment has been tough nevertheless. Jill relayed: "The lumpectomy didn't come back with clean margins. So I had to go in for a second surgery the very next day. And then radiation absolutely wiped me out. And since then there's been the Tamoxifen, which I've now been taking for five years." We honestly are in shock that Jill's been going through this for FIVE years. While Goodacre is grateful for the medicine Tamoxifen, she has struggled with the side effects the estrogen modulator has caused. Specifically, the pill has caused her to gain weight. On the hit her self-confidence has taken, the 53-year-old noted: "I've always been a pretty fit person, and so to be just rounder and heavier and not to really be able to do much about it — that's been hard. It's taken a lot out of my self-confidence." We can't imagine this process has been easy. Harry even noticed how the medicine impacted his wife, as he added: "It's a part of how the cancer and the treatment impacted her, and it was a real issue, even though she will always be the most beautiful woman in the world." Awwww. Thankfully, as Jill is hitting her five-year mark of remission, the blonde stunner can stop taking Tamoxifen soon. On why she chose to stay silent about her cancer fight, Goodacre stated: "It wasn't like we were superstitious, like if we said something about being in the clear we'd somehow jinx it,. But we wanted to be well on the other side of things before we told everybody. The doctors all say that after the five-year mark, things look optimistic, so we're starting to feel pretty good... It's not something that's just going to go away like it never happened. I'll always be a little nervous, always having to get checked, always hoping it doesn't come back." Makes sense. The couple are slated to discuss Jill's health struggles in depth for the Thursday's episode of Harry. In a sneak peek for the episode, Connick Jr. is seen telling his wife: "All I wanted to do was grow old with you and have as many years as possible as I could with you." We're not crying, YOU are. At the end of the day, we're just happy that Jill's health is significantly better these days. *Hugs* [Image via FayesVision/WENN.].....»»

Paris Hilton Sheds Tears Testifying Against Her Hacker In Court: "I Have Been Violated So Many Times In My Life"

Paris Hilton will never be the same after being the victim of a hacker. The socialite couldn't stop herself from crying in court as she testified against Paystar Bkhchadzhyan -- the woman who was sentenced to 57 months in prison to bank fraud conspiracy on Monday for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from Paris' bank accounts and nude photos from her iCloud account. Related: Paris Says Her Sex Tape Leak Was 'Like Being Raped' Paris made it clear in court that she has been deeply affected by the crime; not only will she never store nudes on her iCloud account again, she's now scared to be home alone! She said in front of the judge: "This has impacted me in so many ways. I am constantly looking over my shoulder and even scared to walk into my home alone fearful that this woman or her boyfriend or other dangerous friends are inside there waiting to hurt me or steal from me." As we reported, Bkhchadzhyan allegedly hacked into Paris' bank accounts, used her credit cards, and even impersonated the heiress, emailing Paris' assistant to wire over $80,000 to the hacker's personal account. After the ruling was made, the Simple Life star was seen outside the courthouse speaking with reporters, looking pleased that justice had been served. Good for her! Read her full testimony, obtained by The Blast, below: "Thank you your honor. It is very important for me to stand here today and pursue legal action on behalf of myself, my family and anyone who has been targeted with hacking. This was stealing and an invasion of my privacy. Public figure or not, no one should be a target for this crime. I hope that by being here today it brings awareness that this won't be tolerated and moving forward it doesn't continue to happen to me or anyone else. "When I first found out that my personal emails, iCloud, credit cards and identity had been stolen and taken over by some stranger I felt so upset, hurt and violated. The defendant not only hacked into my accounts and made credit cards with my name on them but somehow found a way to hack into the email accounts of my employees, my friends and my family members such as my father and sister. The defendant started contacting me personally thru text after she impersonated me to a phone company and took over my cell phones where she actually had set it up so that she had her own phones that were directly linked to mine receiving all of my personal texts, emails, whatsapp conversations, private photos and videos. "The defendant was impersonating to be someone else and she lied to me, tried to con, scare and extort me for money saying that these other women had broken into my iCloud and stolen private photos and messages and threatening me that if I did not pay for my pictures and my private information that it would be sold to the media to be leaked to public. I was told that they were already in talks with reporters and media companies interested. I was so upset, distraught and terrified that I could hardly sleep that entire week constantly being contacted by this woman who had targeted me and my life. It was so scary, upsetting, disturbing, shocking, and stressful to be threatened and extorted in such a way. "It even got scarier when the front gate security guards in the gated community where I live started getting very heated calls from a woman they said was very rude impersonating me and demanding that her guests only be let into the gates of my private community but also to be let into my house. During this time I was in Switzerland terrified that these strangers were going to break into my home and steal everything. "When she was not allowed past the security gate or into my home she started writing extremely rude messages to my assistant Angie Enos again impersonating and pretending to be me and demanding that Angie wire $50k into her account. At this point my assistant knows that I would never speak to her in such a rude way so she contacted me over the phone to ask if I had asked for the wire and I said no. Then because this woman could not get the wire from my assistant she targeted my parents and wrote my mother very rude messages demanding that she take out $50k in cash to be sent to her from my mothers account. My mom then contacted me to ask if it was me because she knew that I would never be asking for money from her. The defendant then again using my private email account started writing several of my friends asking them to send private photos of us together and other personal questions all the while my friends are thinking it is me asking since this is all being written from my personal email account. It was never ending. This was so stressful. "Then we discovered from the Roosevelt Hotel that the defendant impersonated me once again and booked the penthouse suite at the hotel to throw a New Year's Eve party ordering tens of thousands of dollars of champagne on my credit card. Also being extremely rude to the staff at the hotel. Also using my credit card to go buy watches and other expensive items. The defendant also used my identity and credit card information at the Mr. C Hotel in Beverly Hills spending on my credit card for room and personal entertainment. Now it has made me very scared, terrified and traumatized. This has impacted me in so many ways. I am constantly looking over my shoulder and even scared to walk into my home alone fearful that this woman or her boyfriend or other dangerous friends are inside there waiting to hurt me or steal from me. "This woman targeted me in such a way that I will never forget or get over it. I feel so incredibly violated. She was trying to get all my user names and passwords for every single one of my email and bank accounts. She took over my life and identity. She tried to shake me up for money. It was all so unbelievable and crazy that it truly seemed like something out of a movie. I have a very busy schedule and was supposed to be out of town today but I rescheduled my trip just to be here because I wanted you, your honor, to know and understand just how much this truly affected me and what a serious crime this is. "I have been violated so many times in my life and I am sick and tired of just brushing it under the rug and not standing up for myself. I want the defendant and any other hackers out their who are planning to target me or anyone else that this is wrong, highly illegal and a serious crime and it will not be tolerated and if they attempt again then they will be punished for their despicable actions. No one should ever have to go through this or made to feel this way and I hope by being here today it will help make a difference and make people think twice before they attempt or try to do such deplorable things to another person and hopefully put a stop to this. Thank you, your honor." [Image via Ivan Nikolov/WENN.].....»»

Kelly’s Daughter Calls Him a ‘Monster’ on Social Media — Morning Brief appeared first on Socialite Life. Buku Abi is finally speaking out about the shocking allegations against her father, R. Kelly. Abi (whose real name is Joann Kelly) posted a heartbreaking post on her Instagram story that explained how she has been affected by her father’s alleged crimes and insinuating the public doesn’t know the half of what he’s guilty of. The text of her message is transcribed below via screenshots posted on TMZ (pdf). Buku here. I just want to say a few things… Before I start, I just want it to be known that I am speaking from the heart. Nothing I say or do not say is to hurt any party reading or affected by this. To the people that feel I should be speaking up/against everything that is going on right now, I just want you all to understand that devastated is an understatement for all that I feel currently. I do apologize if my silence to all that is happening comes off as careless. That is my last intention. I pray for all the families & women who have been affected by my father’s actions. Trust, I have been deeply affected by all of this. However, It has been very difficult to process it all. Let alone gather all the right words to express everything I feel. Anyone that knows me personally or has been following me throughout the years knows that I do not have a relationship with my father. Nor do I speak on him or on his behalf. I also am not fond of dealing with my personal issues or personal life through social media but, I feel things are starting to get out of hand. Unfortunately, for my own personal reasonings & for all my family has endured in regards to him, his life decisions and his last name, it has been years since my siblings and I have seen or have spoken to him. In regards to my mother [Andrea Lee], she for the same reasonings and more, has not seen or spoken to my father in years. My mother, siblings and I would never condone, support or be a part of ANYTHING negative he has done and or continues to do in his life. Going through all I have gone through in my life, I would never want anyone to feel the pain I have felt. Reminders of how terrible my father is, and how we should be speaking up against him, rude comments about my family, fabricating me, my siblings & our mothers ‘part’ etc. Does not help my family (Me, my sister, my brother, and my mother) in our healing process. Nor does it allow a safe space for other victims who are scared to speak up, speak up. The same monster you all confronting me about is my father,” Buku said in the message. “I am well aware of who and what he is. I grew up in that house. My choice to not speak on him and what he does is for my peace of mind. My emotional state. And for MY healing. I have to do & move in a manner that is best for me. I pray anyone who reads this understands I put nothing but good intent behind each word. It took me nearly 3 days to write this. I just want everyone to know that I do care and I love you all. This is a very difficult subject to speak on… again, I apologize if my words don’t come out right. To everyone who reached out to my family and I, sending good energy and love…Thank you. You guys really helped push us through this hard time. This past year for my family has been very difficult, all the love and support you all continue to show is why we keep going. You all fuel us. Family, friends, followers, fans, etc… I love you guys to pieces. Your love is appreciated & always will be reciprocated. For anyone new to my page, I just ask when you come here you bring peace & nothing else. Joy Bryant Reveals She Was Born As The Result Of A Sexual Assault — "Because She Didn"t Matter, I Didn"t Matter To Her"

Although the Parenthood star has her own #MeToo stories -- in the latest Lenny Letter, the 43-year-old revealed she was born as the result of her mother being sexually assaulted. The New York native penned: "…There's hard work that needs to be done to eradicate this ‘pandemic' of sexual violence against women, especially those who are not famous. I thought about my own experiences of abuse, assault and harassment, pre-fame and post-fame. The male babysitter when I was five, the male photographer in my early twenties, the male studio executive a few years ago. Yeah, me too." Related: Twitter Calls Donald Trump Out For Copy & Pasting His Mass Shooting Response She went on: "And in my acknowledgment of common cause with the countless women coming forward in Hollywood and beyond, I thought about my mother, Joyce. Yeah, her too. On October 18, 1974, Joyce gave birth to me. not in love but in shame, after hiding her pregnancy from my grandmother for six months. I am the product of a 15-year-old girl and an older man she knew. It doesn't matter how or why or when. It happened, and with both my mother and my father dead, I'll never know the specifics." The former model emotionally wrote how her mother wasn't able to be the mom Joy needed because of treatment, or lack there of, as a victim: "What matters is that no one protected her before or after. What matters is that my mother was the one who was shamed. What matters is that my father ruined her life just as it was blossoming. What matters is she was trapped in a trauma she could never escape, a trauma that prevented her from being the mother I needed her to be. What matters is that she didn't matter. And because she didn't matter, I didn't matter to her." She continued: "For years, the silence between us was so loud, I had to cover my hears. I never knew who my mother was as a woman. I never heard her story from her. She never let me in. I never asked. I didn't know how. Neither did she. So my experience of my mother was based on how she treated me, what I heard, and what I saw, most of which was far from nurturing and kind." Joy then addressed the allegations to storm over Hollywood the past month: "The recent outing of Harvey Weinstein, Louis C.K., and many others have been shocking in its existence. Women have long been victimized by the evil that men do, especially men in power. Men who rule with iron fists, limp dicks, and egos as big as the sky. To see woman after women lift up her voice in a #MeToo clarion of solitary and acknowledgement of the pervasive abuse that we've experienced is liberating on the one hand and sobering on the other. It's comforting to know that you're not alone;. But goddamn — who hasn't been abused, harassed, assaulted, or traumatized?" Preach. Joy finished her essay by revealing how she's come to accept her mother's story: "[My mother's] story is one of stolen innocence and lost potential, a record of pain spun on a never ending loop. Her story is sadly the story of so many. It's taken years of therapy for me to begin to understand who I am and why I am. And because of that, I've come to understand who and why mother was, better than I could when she was alive. But on my birthday this year, I accepted my mother's story as part of my own. It always was and always will be." Wow. What a powerful share. Thank you, Joy. [Image via FayesVision/WENN.].....»»

Eliza Dushku"s Alleged Molester Also Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Stuntwoman And Seducing Teen Visiting Set

Eliza Dushku bravely opened up this weekend accusing True Lies stunt coordinator Joel Kramer of molesting her when she was just 12 years old. Since then, the Buffy The Vampire Slayer star's on-set legal guardian for the film later corroborated Dushku's account. Now even more support — in the form of more accusers. Since then, the Buffy The Vampire Slayer star's on-set legal guardian for the film later corroborated Dushku's account. Now even more support -- in the form of more accusers. Related: James Cameron Gives Profoundly Shitty Excuse For Not Knowing About True Lies Incident Laura Albert was a stuntwoman working for Kramer on both True Lies and thriller Virus. She says Kramer seduced her sister's 16-year-old friend while visiting the Wilmington, North Carolina, set of the latter film in 1997 -- just a couple years after what he allegedly did to Eliza. Albert said in a written statement to Deadline: "I invited my younger sister to the set as she resided there. I wanted her to come to the set in an effort to mentor her, to show her the motion picture industry from the inside, as she had desired to become a makeup artist. One day after we finished work, I had my sister and her friend, who were 15 and 16 and in the 10th grade, come out to hang with all the stunt personnel as we were going to go go-karting. I wanted her to have the experience of having some ‘good clean fun' in the setting of a professional industry. That night, after going karting, the stunt department had to leave as we all had early calls the next day. Unbeknownst to me, my boss, Joel Kramer, had lured the girls to go swimming at the pool in his hotel. It wasn't until a month later that I learned of the events that happened that night." Albert says her sister told her later that Kramer approached the girls in the pool and "pulled his dick out and said, ‘You cannot handle this,' and then began to swim towards them." "That's when my sister left. Even today, she feels guilty for having left her friend. My sister ended up leaving and she left her friend there with Joel. Joel had sex with the 16-year-old girl. She was 16. He was 39. His room number was 424." Albert says to this day, her sister and her friend use the code "424" to refer to the incident. Related: Steven Seagal Says 40% Of Sexual Misconduct Claims Are Part Of A Conspiracy Kramer has since denied Dushku's claim, telling Deadline: "These are outlandish, manipulated lies. I never sexually molested her. I'm sick to my stomach. It's not true. I think she's making this up in her imagination. This is all lies. Lies, lies, lies. This is just crazy. I treated her like a daughter. We all looked out for her." He does, however, admit he "fooled around" with the teenager -- but has a somewhat different story: "I did not invite the two girls up to my room. One girl on her own came to my room as she was legal age... The stunt crew all stay at that hotel. I was swimming laps one early evening and the sister of one of my stunt doubles and her friend showed up at the pool. I did not invite them. They swam around and I finished my laps and went up to my room alone. Period. You don't know me, but I am not a liar. Thirty minutes later there was a knock at my door and her friend was there and asked to come in. She came in and we fooled around but no intercourse. She left about 1/2 hour later. I honestly did not know she was 17. Tattoos, and yes, pretty. When I found out I was devastated. I also checked with the local laws and found out 16 was the consensual age. It bothered me for years. Yes all was consensual... Yes, I absolutely almost made a huge mistake with the girl from the Wilmington shoot, as I said, I won't lie about it" When asked about Kramer's version, Albert hit back: "He's a liar. I'll go toe-to-toe with him to his face. He lured the girls after we went to our rooms that night after go-karting. He's so full of shit." Albert says she heard the story at the time from both her sister and the friend, who wishes to remain anonymous: "I questioned the girl and asked her what happened. She had tears streaming down her eyes. She told me that he had sex with her. I was so angry. After I found out, I called the Wilmington Police Department to see what the law was about statutory rape. I was told that the legal age of consent in the state of N.C. was 16." Another stuntman from the film confirms he was present for the call to police. After learning there was no legal recourse, Albert says she went straight to Kramer: "The next day I went to work and confronted Joel Kramer. It was just he and I in his stunt trailer and I point blank said to him: ‘I'm going to ask you one question, and if you lie to me, I am going to let the parents come in and go to the producers and let all of hell rain down on you. Did you have sex with her?' And he said ‘Yes.' He went on to try to vindicate himself, but it was too late. I said to him, ‘I'm not going to go back to LA and talk about this, but if I am asked, I am not going to lie for you.' And that is how I still feel today." Albert adds: "The saddest part of this whole thing is that when I read the story of Eliza Dushku, this is exactly the same scenario as what happened in North Carolina." If only someone had believed Eliza earlier. Related: Simone Biles Says She Was Also Sexually Abused By USA Gymnastics Doctor Larry Nassar! Another stuntwoman has come forward with her own sexual assault allegation against Kramer. She says when she was new to the business, one night in the late '70s or early '80s, she and acquaintance Kramer were both part of a larger group of stunt performers who were having a drink in a bar: "It was then decided to go to a different place. It was also suggested that we car-pool due to parking. I ended up in Joel Kramer's vehicle. Other than I knew him by face, we had never worked together, he had never hired me, and we were not dating – nor was I looking to date him. It was just a group of stunt people getting together. When I got into Joel's vehicle, instead of driving me to the other place, he drove us up into the hills on the south side of Ventura Boulevard into a quiet residential area. He pulled his vehicle over, unzipped his pants, pulled out his penis. He grabbed me by the back of my head and forced my face down onto his penis and came in my mouth. He then released my head and cleaned himself up. I must have as well. I really don't remember if he gave me tissues. I cannot remember if words were exchanged of any type, but he did drive me to the other place, where the group had gone." The woman, who has chosen not to give her name, says it was Eliza coming forward that led her to finally do so: "I did not tell anyone, because I was frightened, scared and ashamed. I also knew that if I were to report this to the stunt group, the police or SAG, I would have no chance in a career as a stunt woman." Kramer has denied this account as well. We just wonder how many more stories are out there? [Image via 20th Century Fox/Facebook.].....»»
