I’ve gone through a lot in my life — I’ve had a heart attack and heart surgery. Part of my checkup is the chest X-ray, and that is the protocol. I do it every year… it was always normal. Then the doctor says, ‘I see a little spot here. Let’s do a CAT scan, so they do a CAT scan, and they say, ‘Let’s do a PET scan’… I don’t think there are any other scans,” the 83-year-old told Extra. The doctor told Larry, “You have a small [spot]. It could be malignant, it could be benign — we ought to take it out.” “On July 17, I had the surgery here at Cedars. They took it out. It was malignant. They were going to take it out if it was malignant or benign. They tested it. They said, ‘You are fine.’ It was stage 1,” Larry continued. “I had no clue at all. If I had not had the chest X-ray, it would have progressed.” “The reason I go public with it is to tell people, ‘Get a chest X-ray.’ I smoked for thirty years. The day of the heart attack, I never smoked again, and I smoked three packs a day — I smoked in the shower,” he added. “Thirty years later, I said to the doctor, ‘Is this connected with that?’ Absolutely.” Larry added he is now on the mend. We’re wishing him the best and hope his recovery continues to go well!.....»»

In October 2012, Harry Connick Jr.'s wife Jill Goodacre became one of those women. For a candid chat with People, the twosome opened up about the retired Victoria's Secret angel's five-year cancer battle. Oh man. Related: Julia Louis-Dreyfus Gives A Breast Cancer Battle Update According to the mag, Jill learned of her breast cancer diagnosis during a routine checkup. Although the model's annual mammogram came back clear, her doctor advised her to have a sonogram just to be safe. It was during this procedure that something was detected. The industry vet shared: "They said, ‘Okay, looks good. Since you have dense breasts, just go across the hall for your sonogram.'" After the sonogram, Goodacre underwent a biopsy and learned that she had Stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma. Jill immediately had a lumpectomy and started radiation. As Harry lost his mother at 13 to ovarian cancer, the hitmaker was terrified of his wife's diagnosis. The former American Idol judge explained: "I was scared I was going to lose her, absolutely. I wasn't going to let her see that, but I was. I know from losing my mom that the worst can happen. She's my best friend, and I really don't know what I would do without her." As for Jill, it just "broke [her] heart" to tell her daughters -- Georgia (21), Sara Kate (20), and Charlotte (15) -- about the cancer. Although Goodacre never underwent chemotherapy, her treatment has been tough nevertheless. Jill relayed: "The lumpectomy didn't come back with clean margins. So I had to go in for a second surgery the very next day. And then radiation absolutely wiped me out. And since then there's been the Tamoxifen, which I've now been taking for five years." We honestly are in shock that Jill's been going through this for FIVE years. While Goodacre is grateful for the medicine Tamoxifen, she has struggled with the side effects the estrogen modulator has caused. Specifically, the pill has caused her to gain weight. On the hit her self-confidence has taken, the 53-year-old noted: "I've always been a pretty fit person, and so to be just rounder and heavier and not to really be able to do much about it — that's been hard. It's taken a lot out of my self-confidence." We can't imagine this process has been easy. Harry even noticed how the medicine impacted his wife, as he added: "It's a part of how the cancer and the treatment impacted her, and it was a real issue, even though she will always be the most beautiful woman in the world." Awwww. Thankfully, as Jill is hitting her five-year mark of remission, the blonde stunner can stop taking Tamoxifen soon. On why she chose to stay silent about her cancer fight, Goodacre stated: "It wasn't like we were superstitious, like if we said something about being in the clear we'd somehow jinx it,. But we wanted to be well on the other side of things before we told everybody. The doctors all say that after the five-year mark, things look optimistic, so we're starting to feel pretty good... It's not something that's just going to go away like it never happened. I'll always be a little nervous, always having to get checked, always hoping it doesn't come back." Makes sense. The couple are slated to discuss Jill's health struggles in depth for the Thursday's episode of Harry. In a sneak peek for the episode, Connick Jr. is seen telling his wife: "All I wanted to do was grow old with you and have as many years as possible as I could with you." We're not crying, YOU are. At the end of the day, we're just happy that Jill's health is significantly better these days. *Hugs* [Image via FayesVision/WENN.].....»»

On Monday, LFO's Brad Fischetti announced that his bandmate Devin Lima has been diagnosed with stage four adrenal cancer. This news comes a week after Lima had doctors surgically remove a tumor from his adrenal gland. Related: Harry Connick Jr.'s Wife Opens Up About Breast Cancer Battle Brad made the announcement via YouTube as, understandably, Devin is "not feeling very well." The boy bander explained: "Devin asked me to give you this update without him because, frankly, he's not feeling very well. But, he asked me to send you his love and gratitude for all the love and prayers you've sent his way... He's had a tough recovery. He had a few really difficult days in the hospital, but thankfully, he's home now, resting and healing." On the specifics of Devin's pathology report, Brad shared that "unfortunately, it confirmed cancer." He continued: "What kind of cancer? Adrenal cancer — primary adrenal cancer, meaning it started in the adrenal gland, which is really rare." Talk about a tough break. Fischetti went on to describe the diagnosis as "one in a million" and revealed the cancer has been at a stage four since it entered Devin's kidney. Lima's kidney has since been removed. In order to fight the cancer, Devin is scheduled to undergo chemotherapy and radiation. Also, the Summer Girls singer will have to take long-term medication in order to combat any "cancer cells present in his body." Although the diagnosis is a tough one, Brad remains hopeful that Devin will fight it off. Fischetti added: "I wish we had better news to share. It's devastating news but at the same time, there's nobody I know stronger than Devin Lima. No one has a stronger body, mind or soul. If anybody can defeat this, it's Devin. I know with your prayers and your thoughts and your positive energy coming down his way, there's no doubt that he will beat it." In fact, per Brad, Devin is determined to return to the stage. In regards to LFO touring again, the pop star concluded: "It's my hope and prayer that we have that opportunity again. Actually, I know that we'll have that opportunity again." Hopefully, Brad's prediction is right. LFO previously lost lead singer and songwriter Rich Cronin to leukemia in 2010. We're wishing Lima only the best during this trying time. Related: Bethenny Frankel & Dennis Shields Are Back On Nonetheless, the Skinnygirl founder is moving quickly to fight the cancer as she told People: "I had a growth on my face that was enlarging. I guessed it to be a basal cell carcinoma and had it lanced and removed. The doctor confirmed it is indeed basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer, and says while it is cancer, I am lucky to have it removed — so it won't affect my overall health." Well that's good to hear. In addition to the treatment she has already had done, the Bravolebrity revealed: "I am now scheduled to undergo Mohs surgery to remove the cancer, followed immediately by plastic surgery to remove any scarring." This diagnosis has inspired Bethenny to warn her many followers about the importance of protecting your skin. Amid her health situation, the businesswoman relayed: "I am extremely lucky to have caught it in time, and it just goes to show you have to know your body and be very aware of any changes. This was a sharp reminder why it is so important that I religiously wear large hats to cover my face and reapply sunscreen. Always make sure to rub in spray-on sunscreen on your kids — spraying it on by itself doesn't cover them enough. Apply it thoroughly every two hours and check the expiration dates as sunscreen does expire; and sit in the shade whenever possible. I love to swim in the ocean and go to the beach, but this is a reminder that the sun is not your friend." We mean, Bethenny isn't wrong! Frankel isn't the only Real Housewives vet to be hit with a skin cancer diagnosis. At the end of August, RHOC's Tamra Judge revealed that she's been fighting melanoma. Intense stuff. In a letter to her friends, Duane "Dog" Chapman's longtime love penned: "As most of you know I've spent a lifetime facing tests and challenges I didn't see coming and certainly never expected. I have what is referred to as a T2 Tumor in my throat that is blocking my breathing. My doctors are suggesting immediate treatment and surgery before the disease progresses." Although there is no "quick fix" to her diagnosis, the 49-year-old is prepared for battle: "To be certain, I've stared down the devil more than once in my life but I've never faced a real life or death decision. My life has never been easy, and I surely don't expect it to start now. Still, I've never been a victim and I won't let cancer beat me. I realize the road I am about to travel will be rocky, full of unexpected twists and turns. But I know one thing for sure. A bend in the road is not the end of the road. There is no quick fix and no appealing options for treatment. Yes, cancer sucks. While I know my diagnosis, until I come out of my surgery, I do not yet know my prognosis. If all goes well, my doctors will be able to get the tumor." She concluded by acknowledging her loved ones: "I will fight every step of the way. Related: Trump Doubles Down On His NFL Criticism Back in July, McCain was at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix for a routine check up when doctors found a blood clot in his left eye. The Republican was driving home when his doctor called and said he needed to turn around for emergency surgery to remove the clot. It was days after the surgery when doctors told McCain he had glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer -- and his prognosis wasn't bright. He explained to CBS: "Some say 3 percent, some say 14 percent. You know it's—it's a very poor prognosis. So I just said, ‘I understand. Now we're going to do what we can, get the best doctors we can find and do the best we can, and at the same time celebrate with gratitude a life well lived.'" Since the diagnosis, McCain has been making his days count. After his surgery, the senator flew back to Washington to cast the deciding vote to advance legislation in an effort to replace and repeal Obamacare -- a bill he effectively killed last week by vowing to vote against. As for his own healthcare, McCain has already completed his first round of chemotherapy treatment. His prognosis, however, remains grim. John McCain is back in good health — just in time to destroy American healthcare! The Republican Senator made a triumphant return to the Senate on Tuesday, where he cast the tie-making vote on a procedural step in advancing the GOP's plans to repeal and replace Obamacare. After recovering from surgery in Arizona, McCain flew to Washington and was greeted by standing ovations on both sides of the Senate floor when he dramatically marched on the floor to cast the crucial vote. Video: Seth Meyers Rips On Trump's New 'Human Pinky Ring'! The 80-year-old, who had just been diagnosed with brain cancer, voted "aye" on advancing the legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Earlier this month, the Senator underwent surgery to remove a blood clot at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix -- which doesn't sound too affordable, if you ask us. While most of Washington expected McCain to sit this one out and focus on his recovery, his vote was necessary to move the debate forward. McCain's vote made only 50 "aye"s, requiring Vice President Mike Pence to cast the tie-breaking vote in favor. It's important to note McCain did not vote for the bill "as it is today," but encouraged the Senate to go back to the drawing board with hearings and discussions with Democrats -- all things the GOP has been sneakily avoiding so far. After casting the vote, McCain spoke from the floor and scolded his Republican colleagues, urging them to work with Dems on a bill that works for everyone. He declared: "We're getting nothing done my friends. We're getting nothing done. All we've really done this year is confirm Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court." The Senator also shaded Donald Trump, adding: "We are not the President's subordinates. We are his equals." He's the last crusty voice in politics, that's for sure!
