Hong Kong Gold Medalist Claims She Was Sexually Abused By Her Coach When She Was 13 Years Old

Lui Lai Yiu, a gold medalist from Hong Kong, took to Facebook last week to share her own horrifying #MeToo story in hopes of breaking the taboo in Chinese culture surrounding topics related to sex. Inspired by Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney's claims of being sexually abused by her team doctor, the 23-year-old revealed that she was sexually assaulted by her then-coach 10 years ago, when she was just 13 years old. Related: Aly Raisman Was Sexually Abused By Gymnastics Team Physician Remembering the incident like it was yesterday, Lui said that her coach called her up on a Saturday and offered to give her a massage. She agreed, since "massages, from the viewpoint of an athlete, are considered absolutely ordinary." Though the two met at the sports ground, Lui recalled her coach suggesting they go to his house instead. She agreed again, because she respected him as a professional. After the massage began, however, the so-called "professional" took full advantage of the middle schooler's trust in him. Lui wrote: "We went to his house, and he pointed for me to lie on the bed. After he pressed on the back of my thighs three or four times with his hands, he said to me that it was hard to massage my legs with my jeans on and suggested I take them off. I trusted him, so I had never imagined he would do something so despicable to his own student. Next, he continued the so-called 'massage.' Finally, he took off my jeans and underwear and touched my private parts." Lui was so stunned, she didn't know how to react at the time. She didn't tell anyone about the incident except for a close friend several years later. Related: Bryan Singer Denies, Denies, Denies Sexual Assault Allegations The athlete was so conflicted, in fact, she continued to keep in touch with the coach -- even wishing him a happy birthday every year -- despite not understanding why she did it. Analyzing her actions at the time, the gold medalist mused: "Perhaps I thought I could deceive myself, tell myself that this never happened." Lui finally decided to come forward after reading about Maroney's experiences, along with learning the news about Lin Yi-han, the Taiwanese author who killed herself after claiming a former teacher sexually groomed and raped her. In response to Lui's admission, Hong Kong's chief executive Carrie Lam asked police to investigate the matter and treat it with the utmost severity. The coach has reportedly been fired. We applaud this brave young woman for coming forward, especially coming from a culture where saying #MeToo isn't exactly embraced with support and warmth -- not yet at least. Read Lui's full post (below): "#metoo I was sexually assaulted by my former coach. This summer, when I read the news about Taiwanese author Lin Yi-han, I felt the urge to share the unhappy experiences from my childhood, but I lacked the courage. A few months ago, after I saw Olympic gold medalist McKayla Maroney sharing her experiences of being sexually abused by her team doctor, the idea to share my own story resurged. It's been many years since it happened, and today I finally plucked up the courage to tell the truth for three reasons: - to call on people to pay attention to the sexual assault of children - to encourage victims to be brave and come forward to tell their stories - to show the public that topics related to sex should not be treated as awkward or embarrassing and shouldn't be something that can't be discussed publicly. I'm very thankful for McKayla Maroney. Because of her one action, I'm willing to discuss this again, to bravely face the past in the hopes of bringing a positive impact to more people. Ten years ago, when I was around 13 or 14, I met coach Y while participating in extracurricular activities at school. Coach Y put a lot of effort into training me and building my confidence. We often had afternoon tea or lunch together. You could say he was my teacher and also my friend. A year later, my sporting achievements had definitely improved, and it made me further believe that this coach could help me achieve even more. I still remember it was a Saturday around noon. I had just gotten out from cram school when I received a phone call from him. He asked me if my muscles were tense after last week's practice. He said he could help me massage and relax those muscles. Massages, from the viewpoint of an athlete, are considered absolutely ordinary. At the time, I didn't see any issues with that, and in my mind he was still a professional coach. We met at the athletic field. Then he said it was difficult to give me a massage there and suggested going to his house instead. I agreed. Again, I hadn't noticed anything wrong with that, because I was just a middle school student, and because in my eyes he was a coach I respected. We went to his house, and he pointed for me to lie on the bed. After he pressed on the back of my thighs three or four times with his hands, he said to me that it was hard to massage my legs with my jeans on and suggested I take them off. I had trusted him, so I had never imagined he would do something so despicable to his own student. Next, he continued the so-called "massage". Finally, he took off my jeans and underwear and touched my private parts. Even as he took off my underwear, I couldn't react. And so that was what happened. About two years ago, I told this to a very good friend of mine. And to this day, she was the only person who knew about it. Human beings are full of contradictions. I still kept in touch with this coach these past few years. He had taught me for some time, so every year I still wished him happy birthday. Am I insane? How could I wish the coach who sexually assaulted me happy birthday every year? I don't know. Perhaps I thought I could deceive myself, tell myself that this never happened. But I couldn't lie to my body. After that, every time he came close to me, my body would tell me to move back. After that, physical contact was limited to just patting on the head. When I grew up, I'd sometimes come into contact with him, and I'd force myself to say a few words but all I wanted to do was run away. And this only brought about a bunch of gossip about how I was rude and didn't understand the concept of gratitude. After I decided to tell my story, I spent a lot of time debating whether to describe my experiences in detail. On one hand, I didn't want people to put the emphasis on the act itself, but on the other, I wanted everyone to know that the aggressor will rationalize everything and use the victim's trust for him to achieve his goal. I have yet to hear of cases of sexual assault or indecency in the Hong Kong sporting world, but I believe that similar cases do exist. If you unfortunately, like me, have gone through a similar experience, I hope that you will pluck up the courage, seek support from those around you, and no longer be lenient toward offenders. In Chinese culture, topics related to sex have always been considered awkward, embarrassing, and not something you should talk about openly in the the public. Come forward — your courage will affect a lot of people who have travelled down the same road, the same way McKayla did for me. As to my family and those who care about me, please don't blame yourself. Don't feel guilty, because your trust, like mine, was taken advantage of. It wasn't my fault, it wasn't my parents' fault, and it definitely wasn't the school's fault. It was the fault of my offender. As a victim, I don't feel shame. I don't want you to feel sad for me. I want you to applaud me for my courage. "I am not broken. It was not my fault. I am growing strong. I refuse silence." These are the words of a #MeToo victim, and the words of my heart. Today is my 23rd birthday. Telling the truth is a form of release. It's me transitioning from a victim to a survivor. It's a birthday present to myself. If you want to wish me well and show you care, then I hope you will share this post so that the #MeToo movement continues to burn on, touching more people who have been affected and showing the true faces of the offenders. "Is it possible to put an end to this type of abuse? Our silence has given the wrong people power for too long, and it is time to take our power back. And remember, it is never too late to speak up." — McKayla Maroney, 2017 Lui Lai Yiu 11/30/2017" [Image via Facebook.].....»»

Blind Item Revealed-ish: Chris Hardwick’s Going Down

This Blind Item turned into a Blind Item: REVEALED right before my very eyes as news broke that our “A list podcast host” is Chris Hardwick, and that he was dropped from the company that he founded, Nerdist, with which he also ran a podcast. In fact not only was he dropped from Nerdist, but earlier today was also scrubbed completely from the site. Hardwick also hosts the aftershow for the Walking Dead as well as other pretty tragic things like The Wall on NBC. But probably not for long. And why is Hardwick going down? Because his ex Chloe Dykstra released a tell-all open letter via Medium about their allegedly abusive relationship together. She doesn’t name Chris specifically, but pretty much hits us over the head with allusions to him. Apparently he emotionally abused her and blacklisted her in Hollywood and made her anorexic and at one point she looked down from an overpass wondering if it was all worth it. Four-foot tall comedians who look like a butt baby between Joel McHale and Jesse Pinkman can’t be too happy with their lives, so it makes sense that Chris would be a douche. Interestingly the Blind Item about Chris Hardwick states that not one, but six women were at the receiving end of Hardwick’s spiky-haired wrath, which is why this is only “Revealed-ish.” Hopefully that means we have five more insane letters coming our way, because this shit is good. Check out the original Blind Item below, and if you are one of the other five alleged abused ladies and want to make us famous by publishing your juicy tell-all on here, just LMK. We’re known for our delicacy in handling these matters.   ________________________ The question is not whether this A list podcast host will lose his podcast because he sure as hell should, it is whether all those other television jobs he has will also go by the wayside. Will they do what is right and fire him for what he put six women through or will they ignore them? I’m also curious what his A- list celebrity wife knew and when she knew it. Is she a victim or complicit? ________________________ H/T: Crazydaysandnights Photo Credit: Getty The post Blind Item Revealed-ish: Chris Hardwick’s Going Down appeared first on WWTDD - What Would Tyler Durden Do?......»»

As they have travelled around the UK in the months since their engagement last November, Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have been incredibly grateful for the support they have received from members of the public. The crowds that have turned out in Nottingham, Cardiff, Brixton, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Belfast, Bath and elsewhere have given Ms. Markle a welcome to the United Kingdom marked by warmth, enthusiasm, and a real sense of fun. We said from the outset that Prince Harry and Ms. Markle were keen to make sure that members of the public would have the opportunity to feel part of the celebrations on their wedding day. This is their way of expressing their gratitude for the messages of support they have received from around the UK, the Commonwealth, Ms. Markle’s home country of the United States, and right around the world. In today’s briefing I want to share more details of what people can expect to see in the day’s leading up to the wedding, and on the day itself, and explain what the public can expect in Windsor. The first thing I would like to share is that Prince Harry and Ms. Markle are very much looking forward to welcoming Ms. Markle’s parents to Windsor for the wedding. Mr. Thomas Markle and Ms. Doria Ragland will be arriving in the UK in the week of the wedding, allowing time for Prince Harry’s family, including The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to spend time with them before the big day. Both of the bride’s parents will have important roles in the wedding. On the morning of the wedding, Ms. Ragland will travel with Ms. Markle by car to Windsor Castle. Mr. Markle will walk his daughter down the aisle of St George’s Chapel. Ms. Markle is delighted to have her parents by her side on this important and happy occasion. In addition to having the support of The Queen, his father The Prince of Wales, and his brother Prince William as Best Man, Prince Harry is also keen to involve his mother’s family in his wedding. All three siblings of Diana, Princess of Wales will be in attendance and Lady Jane Fellowes will give the reading. Prince Harry and Ms. Markle both feel honoured that Lady Jane will be representing her family and helping to celebrate the memory of the late Princess on the wedding day. As we said back in November, this wedding will be guided by tradition, allowing everyone to celebrate what makes Royal Weddings so special, but also one which reflects the personalities of Prince Harry and Ms. Markle. We have been announcing details over the last couple of months and in the final week ahead of the wedding you can expect to hear more about the arrangements, including: The Instrument of Consent; Details of the Bridesmaids and Page Boys; The work of florist Philippa Craddock and the Crown Estate gardeners who have been growing and preparing the flowers that will fill the church; An update from Claire Ptak, the baker who will make the wedding cake, and the chefs who have been working in the Palace kitchens to make the final preparations and; We will publish the full Order of Service on the website on Saturday morning so members of the public can follow the service at home. I will now take you through the high level outline of what you can expect to see from the evening of Friday 18th May. The key moment for the day before will be the arrival of the bride at her accommodation. We expect this to happen early evening. On the day itself we expect Windsor to be very busy. The council has worked with partners including Thames Valley Police to plan what will be a fantastic day of celebrations. As the Royal Borough of Windsor has said, work is well underway to ensure the occasion is a memorable and joyous one for all involved and they are working closely with a wide range of partners. Rail operators will be putting on extra trains and there will be park and walk and park and float services to help people get into town. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and book all travel arrangements early so they can make the most of their trip. I would very much appreciate the media’s assistance in spreading the message that visitors to Windsor will have a chance to be part of a very special day, but those who will be heading to the town really do need to plan their journeys carefully. The Royal Borough has confirmed that preparations include: A 6,000 space pre-booked car parking area at the Review Ground, just off the Long Walk; Food stalls and facilities, including big screens showing live footage of the wedding and Procession, on the Long Walk and in Alexandra Gardens; Viewing areas along the whole Procession Route (Castle Hill, High Street, Sheet Street, Kings Road, Albert Road and the Long Walk); A team of 140 Royal Borough Ambassadors have volunteered to help steward the event and assist visitors throughout the day; The town centre will be decorated with bunting and ceremonial banners along parts of the Procession Route and; Live entertainment from local groups throughout the town centre. In order to make sure everyone can get through expected traffic, the members of the public who have been invited to be inside the grounds of Windsor Castle for the wedding will be arriving from around 0900hrs. As a reminder, 1,200 people have been nominated by Lord Lieutenants from across the country for their work supporting their communities. Many of these people are sharing their stories with their local media and supporters – the couple are very pleased that their wedding has provided a platform to celebrate the inspiring work of community and youth leaders from around the UK. The first thing these people gathered will see on the morning of the wedding will be the arrival of guests between 0930hrs and 1100hrs. Guests will be arriving at the Round Tower by coach and will be seen walking to the South Door of St George’s Chapel. Members of The Royal Family will begin to arrive from 1120hrs, and enter St George’s Chapel via the Galilee Porch. Some will be on foot, and others will arrive by car. Prince Harry and his brother The Duke of Cambridge will arrive at St George’s Chapel most likely by foot and will enter via the West Steps. This will allow Their Royal Highnesses to acknowledge all of the people gathered in the Castle precincts, including the 200 charity representatives gathered in the Horseshoe Cloister at the bottom of the steps. Also around the time Royal Family arrivals begin, a pooled media facility will cover Ms. Markle and Ms. Ragland’s departure from the bride’s overnight location. We expect the journey into the Castle to take them along part of the Long Walk, allowing members of the public gathered there to see the car as it passes. There will also be a brief stop at the Castle where Ms. Ragland will head onto the Chapel and Ms. Markle will be joined by some of the Bridesmaids and Page Boys before she continues her journey to the church, where she will enter via the West Steps. The Service will take around an hour, and we look forward to announcing more details of this in the weeks ahead. After the Service has concluded, the newly married couple will process out of the church and acknowledge the 200 representatives of Prince Harry’s charities gathered in the Cloister. The couple are delighted that these people who will be such an important part of their official work in the years to come will be the first people they see after their wedding. As the couple step into their Carriage, close family members will gather on the West Steps to wave them off on their Procession. As a reminder, we expect the Carriage Procession to take just under 25 minutes. Prince Harry and Ms. Markle are very much looking forward to this part of the day. It will be their chance to express their gratitude for the goodwill and warm wishes they have received from all quarters in the months since their engagement. Members of the congregation will file out of the church onto the grass to see the start of the Procession before walking to the reception at St George’s Hall. All guests will be attending the reception. The public elements of the event will be over at this stage. The final thing you can expect to see is the Bride and Groom departing Windsor Castle for the evening reception at Frogmore House. In the days that follow, we will facilitate interviews with some of those who have been involved in the wedding, as happened in 2011, for example with the hairdresser and dressmaker. The formal photographs, which will be taken by Alexi Lubomirski, will be released during the week......»»

Kristine Leahy: Standing Up For Herself By Taking On Lavar Ball

The elder Ball has made the headlines even more than his son has, with his outspoken opinions, outrageous antics, and out-of-touch attitudes toward women. Kristine Leahy, the co-host of NBC’s American Ninja Warriors, has injected herself into the conversation about Lavar Ball through her co-hosting gig on Fox Sports Radio’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd. Leahy hasn’t been afraid to openly criticize Ball, especially when it comes to his sexist remarks and actions. Her remarks have drawn a lot of press and a lot of controversy, but when we spoke to her, she told us she felt like she had no choice but to speak out on behalf of those who are offended by Ball, and her American Ninja Warrior co-host, Matt Iseman, says he supports her 100%. Watch Leahy and Iseman on American Ninja Warriors, Monday nights at 8/7c on NBC, and listen to Leahy daily on Fox Sports Radio’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
