If you missed it, Jonathan was detained by police in Los Angeles this week after an apparent argument with his wife on a flight from Miami. “8 months of sobriety and an unfortunate day of airline travel. We were in South America specifically working holistically through anger issues that result in these kinds of episodes. When in it… he is not in a frame of mind where he can really even comprehend the repercussions and necessary response to his own actions,” Mara explained of her 40-year-old husband on her Instagram. “[Jonathan] IS extremely sorry for any inconveniences caused to anyone traveling yesterday. There was no argument, just me asking him to not use his e cig per stewardess’ request to me and him not being himself, speaking very very unkindly. It was out of his character,” she continued. “It was unbeknownst to me anything that happened on flight, as I was with my son with a privacy wall up. We are home safe and he is feeling deeply sorry for any remote disrespect afforded to me, attendants, onlookers or officers. Thank you for your compassion on this ongoing battle with addiction we are in,” Mara concluded. Jonathan has been to rehab several times over the years......»»

The 40-year-old actor was on a flight with his wife Mara and their one-year-old son Wolf. TMZ reports that on the flight, Jonathan allegedly became “verbally abusive” towards Mara after they got into an argument. Jonathan was apparently cursing during the argument and other passengers reportedly became upset. At one point, Jonathan also got up to go to the bathroom and was allegedly smoking an e-cigarette. This is a federal violation and he did stop when he was asked to stop by a flight attendant. Upon landing in Los Angeles, Jonathan was detained, but denied smoking the e-cig. Police called the FBI but they did not feel the need to respond to the call and Jonathan was released. The report also suggests that Jonathan had been drinking, though there has been no official statement. Jonathan has been to rehab several times over the years. Jonathan Rhys Meyers" Wife Reveals Recent Miscarriage Caused The Actor"s Public Relapse

ICYMI, Jonathan Rhys Meyers had people talking this weekend after images surfaced of The Tudors actor being escorted off a flight by security at the Dublin Airport. It's said the Irishman, who is a recovering alcoholic, was under the influence and looked worse for wear. Related: Janet Jackson Break Down In Tears On Stage To make matters worse, Meyers' wife Mara Lane has since confirmed that the industry vet's relapse was caused by her recent miscarriage. How devastating. In a poignant letter on Instagram, Lane shared: "With much sadness, we open our hearts to share that J and I lost our second child, who was baking in the oven. Child was very very much wanted (right now especially by J, so he took the news particularly not so well) and we are still working with coping skills over here... when life throws us curve balls such as these." So sad. The pair already has one child together, a son named Wolf Rhys Meyers, whom they welcomed in December 2016. In regards to Jonathan's struggle to cope with the miscarriage, Mara continued: "Depression is a real concern from past abuse as well as alcoholism which he was born with. He has been able to turn any ugliness and hurt in his life into art and is the strongest person I know. I do not know anyone who has been through what he has been through and reached his level of successes. It does seem though that every time we seem to be making so much progress... sometimes it's like two steps forward, one step back." Well said. However, Jonathan's wife is less than pleased with those who took photos of her man at his time of distress. The dark haired stunner added: "...my husband is an Irishman who battles alcoholism and depression and drank between jobs to try to cope with the sadness of this news. I am trying to and still learning/adjusting to living with the public, like one would as a concerned mother-in-law. I feel that whomever took photos of my husband was slightly in the wrong and was concerned for the wrong reasons but ... it's ok. It's ok. Maybe you have/had a family to feed and need/needed money? I don't know. We forgive you." Way to take the high road! As for Jonathan, per Mara's note, he is "safe and with his sober living companion and bodyguard to get into a detox closer to home since he was denied hospital help twice in Ireland because of an already two month wait period." Oh man. We're keeping Jonathan and Mara in our thoughts as they try and get through this incredibly difficult time. [Image via FayesVision/WENN.].....»»

Netflix PR Chief Fired Over Repeated Use Of N-Word In Business Meetings, Claims He Was Canned "All On A Couple Words"

Not a great look for Netflix here, but shout-out to their CEO Reed Hastings for very quickly getting rid of top communications executive Jonathan Friedland after allegations and stories first surfaced! In "a lengthy internal memo" sent to Netflix employees on Friday afternoon, Hastings explained in detail the reasoning behind letting Friedland go, citing multiple uses of the n-word with "unacceptably low racial awareness and sensitivity." And Friedland doesn't appear to believe he did much wrong. Related: Sarah Huckabee Sanders Booted Out Of Restaurant We'll get to Friedland's reaction in a minute, but first, the memo from Hastings to the company about the overall incidents (below): "All: I've made a decision to let go of Jonathan Friedland. Jonathan contributed greatly in many areas, but his descriptive use of the N-word on at least two occasions at work showed unacceptably low racial awareness and sensitivity, and is not in line with our values as a company. The first incident was several months ago in a PR meeting about sensitive words. Several people afterwards told him how inappropriate and hurtful his use of the N-word was, and Jonathan apologised to those that had been in the meeting. We hoped this was an awful anomaly never to be repeated. Three months later he spoke to a meeting of our Black Employees @ Netflix group and did not bring it up, which was understood by many in the meeting to mean he didn't care and didn't accept accountability for his words. The second incident, which I only heard about this week, was a few days after the first incident; this time Jonathan said the N-word again to two of our Black employees in HR who were trying to help him deal with the original offense. The second incident confirmed a deep lack of understanding, and convinced me to let Jonathan go now. As I reflect on this, at this first incident, I should have done more to use it as a learning moment for everyone at Netflix about how painful and ugly that word is, and that it should not be used. I realize that my privilege has made me intellectualize or otherwise minimize race issues like this. I need to set a better example by learning and listening more so I can be the leader we need. Depending on where you live or grew up in the world, understanding and sensitivities around the history and use of the N-word can vary. Debate on the use of the word is active around the world (example) as the use of it in popular media like music and film have created some confusion as to whether or not there is ever a time when the use of the N-word is acceptable. For non-Black people, the word should not be spoken as there is almost no context in which it is appropriate or constructive (even when singing a song or reading a script). There is not a way to neutralize the emotion and history behind the word in any context. The use of the phrase "N-word" was created as a euphemism, and the norm, with the intention of providing an acceptable replacement and moving people away from using the specific word. When a person violates this norm, it creates resentment, intense frustration, and great offense for many. Our show Dear White People covers some of this ground. Going forward, we are going to find ways to educate and help our employees broadly understand the many difficult ways that race, nationality, gender identity and privilege play out in society and our organization. We seek to be great at inclusion, across many dimensions, and these incidents show we are uneven at best. We have already started to engage outside experts to help us learn faster. Jonathan has been a great contributor and he built a diverse global team creating awareness for Netflix, strengthening our reputation around the world, and helping make us into the successful company we are today. Many of us have worked closely with Jonathan for a long time, and have mixed emotions. Unfortunately, his lack of judgment in this area was too big for him to remain. We care deeply about our employees feeling safe and supported at Netflix. Much of this information will be in the press shortly. But any detail not in the press is confidential to employees. -Reed" Wow. Related: Trump Admin Files Motion To Keep Children Detained LONGER! Friedland himself released his own statement about the firing, too, tweeting (below): I’m leaving Netflix after seven years. Leaders have to be beyond reproach in the example we set and unfortunately I fell short of that standard when I was insensitive in speaking to my team about words that offend in comedy. — jonathan friedland (@jsf33) June 22, 2018 I feel awful about the distress this lapse caused to people at a company I love and where I want everyone to feel included and appreciated. I feel honored to have built a brilliant and diverse global team and to have been part of our collective adventure. — jonathan friedland (@jsf33) June 22, 2018 Uh-huh... And then -- interestingly -- he followed up those tweets with one more tweet which was VERY quickly deleted (below), but not before we were able to grab a screenshot: Uhhh... excuse us, Jonathan Friedland?! Is that all that was?? Or was it maybe something slightly more important and you should, ya know, actually take some responsibility for yourself and understand the magnitude of what you did -- multiple times -- to be directly responsible for your own firing. Thanks! [Image via Netflix.].....»»

The actor was detained by police on Sunday evening after he allegedly got into an altercation with his wife on an American Airlines flight from Miami to Los Angeles. Related: Mara Thanks Fans For Emotional Support Meyers, who was on the plane with his wife Mara (pictured above) and their one-year-old son, had reportedly been drinking when things started to turn bad. It all began when the actor got into some type of verbal altercation with his wife, in front of a number of other passengers. According to TMZ, the tirade was "laced with profanities," and it upset a great number of other passengers. Jonathan then allegedly got up and walked to the bathroom as he smoked an e-cigarette -- which is a big no-no on airplanes. A flight attendant told him to put away the e-cig, and he apparently did so with little more fanfare. Regardless, when the plane landed at LAX, cops were already on the tarmac surrounding it, and they detained Meyers and took him in for questioning. The argument with his wife itself didn't constitute a crime, of course, and the FBI ultimately decided against pursuing anything regarding the e-cigarette on the plane, and so, Meyers was eventually released. Then again, Meyers has a long history of substance abuse issues, and has already been to rehab several times, so he's no stranger to the poor decisions that sometimes come with allegedly being drunk. Thank you for sharing your soul and stories back, as this helps us feel that we are not alone. Anyone who knows me personally knows I would normally never share such personal sadness (only because in my head, I would not want to burden others and because I trust that in time God will heal me) but I was happy to come to my husband's defense. I could not sit back and see him attacked by Darkness publicly during such a tender time. Thank you for coming to ours. Please continue to always write or comment about your days no matter what I share as when I see it I will return the love back someway or it will be read by someone else who can too. I so wish that I could support you on all your walks and sad days so hopefully the posts I share will make you laugh or lighten your days or make you smile/brighten them somehow. This is not a highlights nor lowlights reel, but simply an in-the-middle to keep in contact.
