Zoe Saldana Talks New Digital Media Brand BESE, Which Was Inspired By Her Sons!

The actress created the brand to empower millennial and GenZ Latinos with a platform to share creative original content and stories of their heritage to be distributed across social and digital platforms. The name BESE, which is pronounced “bee-say,” comes from the verb “to be” in two languages – “be” in English and “se” in Spanish. Zoe has said that her sons inspired her to start the company and her mission is to shine a light on the untold stories that reflect today’s America. We caught up with Zoe to learn more about her plans for BESE. Read below! Just Jared: Your sons inspired you to birth BESE, was there a specific A-ha moment that stands out? Are there tools out there for children and kids whose parents want them to embrace Latinx empowerment? Zoe Saldana: It wasn’t a specific A-ha moment, per say, but it was early on in my pregnancy that BESE was also conceived. I felt a desire to see and hear more positive portrayals of multicultural American people in mainstream media. Now more than before we as consumers have a direct access – through our devices – to information that we didn’t have before, and often the information in the content we consume is presented in a negative or stereotypical depiction of people either by their race, gender, class or language of origin. I didn’t want my sons to be put into boxes that they didn’t create for themselves. I want my children to witness equal freedom across the board as they are growing into their own American experience, as Americans. So BESE came out of a personal necessity and a personal desire to help my country, so it can as a result nurture my sons. I think the Latinx community is growing and finding its voice within the American landscape. It is BESE’s hope to be one of the tools that will help many generations and communities feel empowered. Click inside to read the rest of our exclusive interview… JJ: Who are some young role models out there paving the way for Latinx empowerment? Who did you look up to when you were younger? ZS: There are so many talented and successful Latinx role models paving the way today for so many Americans that need to see and hear their stories being told. I think Lin-Manuel Miranda, Emma Gonzalez, Selena Gomez, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, Eva Longoria-Baston, Gabby Rivera, Rosario Dawson, are some of the names that come to mind. But the list is evergreen, not only in the Latinx community but other communities as well. It is BESE’s mission to tell their stories in order to continue cultivating aspiration across our nation. I feel our country needs to know about the people that are looking to bring positive change through their actions and vocations. JJ: Your sons are biracial. Will BESE reach people who are ethnically ambiguous? How do you instill a sense of pride for people of mixed race? ZS: When we are made aware of the social, economic and cultural impact that others who came before us have done, it inspires pride and it gives us a sense of belonging that all Americans need to feel in order for us to continue pursuing our American Dream. The American narrative needs to broaden in order to continue telling stories of great American figures, regardless of who they are, where they came from or how they got here. JJ: Can you share one of your own untold stories that you’d want to tell in video-form on the BESE platform? ZS: I’m working on that right now. It is shaping up to be a very paramount year for me and all that I have accomplished thus far. I cannot wait to share it through BESE. JJ: Which of the characters you’ve played in the past would be vocal members of the BESE community? What stories would they tell? ZS: Well, I’d think and hope all of them would be a voice in the BESE community, even the out of this world characters like Neytiri and Gamora! As for the down to earth characters, Graciela (Live by Night), Eva Rodriguez (Center Stage) stand out. They were all fighting against the odds society had placed for them. They were strong women willing to stand up and work hard for what they believed they could be and accomplish. Go check out BESE now at BESE.com!.....»»

Brice’s collaboration with Mark Duplass continues with Creep 2 which The Orchard is releasing on all digital platforms on October 24. Creep 2 centers on Sara (Girls’ Desiree Akhavan), a video artist who attempts to form a bond with lonely men. After discovering an ad looking for “video work,” she heads to remote forest where she meets a man claiming to be a serial killer (Duplass, reprising his role in the original). Agreeing to spend a day with him, Sara’s pursuit for an interesting story may lead to a tragic end. Duplass and Brice (who also was the lead in Creep), penned the script. “We are overjoyed to bring the next chapter of Creep into the world,” said Brice. “The fact that audiences have embraced the first film in such an unexpected way has been so heartening. We hope Creep 2 will bring a new level of fear, discomfort and joy to loyal fans and newcomers alike.” If you haven’t seen the original or are in need of a refresher course, here’s the trailer to Creep (the sequel’s trailer wasn’t available as of press time): Find Us On Facebook: Hollywood Outbreak Follow Us On Twitter: @Hollyoutbreak Posted by: Greg Srisavasdi.....»»

The documentary debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, and made the allegation that Whitney was molested by her cousin, Dee Dee Warwick, when she was a child. Whitney‘s brother Gary also made an allegation in the documentary that he was molested by Dee Dee, who died in 2008. The Whitney documentary is now available to see in theaters now. Click inside to read the joint statement made by Cissy Houston and Dionne Warwick… “In the documentary, which premiered almost two months ago at the Cannes Film Festival, a claim is made that Whitney was molested by Dee Dee Warwick, her cousin and Dionne‘s sister. My niece Dionne Warwick and I make this statement to raise our voices above the din surrounding the release of the film, Whitney. Although the film is marketed as a Houston Family approved/endorsed project, neither my son, Michael, Dionne nor I knew of the allegations of abuse, the direction the film would take, until two days before the screening at Cannes. We cannot, however, overstate the shock and horror we feel and the difficulty we have believing that my niece Dee Dee Warwick (Dionne’s sister) molested two of my three children. I’ve been told—as justification for the invasive theme of this film—that Whitney was a public person and therefore the public has a right to know any and everything about her. I say, NO, she was a famous person … a singer, an actress, a quiet but generous philanthropist. She wasn’t running for office, asking for money or trying to win the right to run anyone’s life. Her job does not entitle the “public” to know every intimate detail of her life beyond what she herself revealed during her lifetime. Although she spoke about her struggle with drugs, the interventions, her daughter Krissi and issues in her marriage, she never PUBLICLY spoke about her father’s stealing from her or revealed any claim that she had been molested. IF she was molested I do not believe she would have wanted it to be revealed for the first time to thousands, maybe millions of people in a film. How I wish I could ask Dee Dee and Nippy what happened, but this film distinguishes itself from the other films about her by spreading rumor, innuendo and hearsay; leaving questions to which I’ll never have the answers.” For the full statement, head over to People......»»

The rising singer-songwriter and producer’s latest single has already racked up over 6 million streams across all digital platforms. “‘Love Alone’ honestly just came out of nowhere one night. I was just playing piano in my studio and the chorus melody just got in my head and then about 45 minutes later, I had written the whole song,” Mokita explains of the song. “I had never written a song that fast before so it was hard to tell in that moment if I really liked it. I revisited it the next day and produced the whole thing out in a few hours. I think the reason it moved so quickly is because I wrote it out of an honest place. I think everyone that has ever been in a relationship can relate to the fear of being vulnerable, especially because there is always a chance that those feelings won’t be reciprocated. Being transparent and honest is always worth it, buts a scary thing, and that’s really what the song is about.” “I didn’t want anything complicated with the video,” he explains. “I really just wanted something visually appealing that really complimented the song. I didn’t want a super complex storyline or crazy shots, I just wanted to set a mood that helped you listen to the music. David really nailed it and totally got my vision for it. The shots are beautiful and brooding and I think it even adds more emotion to the original song.” In addition to his own music, Mokita recently produced the stripped down version of Cheat Codes and Demi Lovato’s “No Promises” and crafted official remixes for the likes of Maggie Rogers, Daya, Betty Who and more.
