Fantastic Beasts Director Defends Johnny Depp — Do YOU Think They Should Keep Him In The Franchise??

Director David Yates is standing by his decision to keep Johnny Depp in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. However, amid Johnny's initial participation in the Harry Potter spin off, he was hit [...] Director David Yates is standing by his decision to keep Johnny Depp in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. In case you missed it, at the end of 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Colin Farrell's character transformed into a Depp-portrayed Gellert Grindelwald. However, amid Johnny's initial participation in the Harry Potter spin off, he was hit with troubling claims of domestic abuse by his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Related: Lady Bird Just Got The Best Rotten Tomatoes Score In History Thus, when it was re-confirmed this month that Johnny would remain on the cast list for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, there was quite the outcry on social media. In response to the backlash, Yates explained to Entertainment Weekly: "Honestly, there's an issue at the moment where there's a lot of people being accused of things, they're being accused by multiple victims, and it's compelling and frightening. With Johnny, it seems to me there was one person who took a pop at him and claimed something. I can only tell you about the man I see every day: He's full of decency and kindness, and that's all I see. Whatever accusation was out there doesn't tally with the kind of human being I've been working with." Huh. The seasoned filmmaker went on to note that many of the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor's past loves -- including Winona Ryder, Vanessa Paradis, and Lori Anne Allison -- have also defended his character. He continued: "By testament, some of the women in [Depp's] life have said the same thing — ‘that's not the human being we know.' It's very different [than cases] where there are multiple accusers over many years that need to be examined and we need to reflect on our industry that allows that to roll on year in and year out. Johnny isn't in that category in any shape or form. So to me, it doesn't bear any more analysis. It's a dead issue." It probably doesn't help that the Fantastic Beasts sequel is already in the middle of production. We're sure reshoots would be a HUGE headache. Regardless, we'd like to know what YOU think about this casting controversy. Be sure to weigh in on the issue (below)... [Image via Warner Bros./Jeff Spicer/Future Image/WENN.].....»»

As you've likely seen, there has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding Johnny Depp's casting in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. Related: Bryan Singer Sued For Allegedly Raping 17-Year-Old Boy! In case you missed it, at the end of 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Colin Farrell's character transformed into a Depp-portrayed Gellert Grindelwald. However, amid Johnny's initial participation in the Harry Potter spin off, the A-lister was hit with troubling claims of domestic abuse by his ex-wife. Despite the scandal, the 54-year-old kept his role in the Fantastic Beasts follow up. Both screenwriter J.K. Rowling and director David Yates have come to Depp's defense following the backlash. Warner Bros. also stood by the industry vet as they released a statement where they highlighted certain parts from Heard and Depp's joint words on their divorce. Specifically, the studio shared the line where the former flames stated "there was never any intent of physical or emotional harm." This, understandably, rubbed Amber the wrong way as she felt it was manipulative to quote her statement with Johnny out of context. The 31-year-old addressed her issue with Warner Bros. on Twitter as she posted: For the record, this was our FULL joint statement. To pick&choose certain lines & quote them out of context, is not right.Women, stay strong. pic.twitter.com/W7Tt6A3ROj — Amber Heard (@realamberheard) December 8, 2017 Warner Bros.' decision to stand by the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor must've stung Heard as she's a part of the WB family too. J.K. Rowling Defends Johnny Depp Casting in "Fantastic Beasts"

Now, the author of the “Harry Potter” books and the screenwriter for the movie, J.K. Rowling, is defending the choice to keep him on board. If you don’t know, Johnny was accused of domestic violence by his ex wife Amber Heard. Johnny and Amber later settled their divorce in court. Click inside to see the full statement made by JK Rowling…. FULL STATEMENT FROM JK ROWLING “When Johnny Depp was cast as Grindelwald, I thought he’d be wonderful in the role. However, around the time of filming his cameo in the first movie, stories had appeared in the press that deeply concerned me and everyone most closely involved in the franchise,” she wrote on her website. Harry Potter fans had legitimate questions and concerns about our choice to continue with Johnny Depp in the role. As David Yates, long-time Potter director, has already said, we naturally considered the possibility of recasting. I understand why some have been confused and angry about why that didn’t happen. The huge, mutually supportive community that has grown up around Harry Potter is one of the greatest joys of my life. For me personally, the inability to speak openly to fans about this issue has been difficult, frustrating and at times painful. However, the agreements that have been put in place to protect the privacy of two people, both of whom have expressed a desire to get on with their lives, must be respected. Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies. I’ve loved writing the first two screenplays and I can’t wait for fans to see ‘The Crimes of Grindelwald’. I accept that there will be those who are not satisfied with our choice of actor in the title role. However, conscience isn’t governable by committee. Within the fictional world and outside it, we all have to do what we believe to be the right thing.”.....»»

Daniel Radcliffe Points Out Harry Potter"s BIG Double Standard In Johnny Depp Casting Controversy!

Thus far the filmmakers' defense of the accused domestic abuser hasn't made things much better. Related: Amber Heard Wasn't Too Happy About It Either... But Entertainment Weekly wanted to know what the Chosen One himself thought of the studio's backing of their new villain. And Daniel Radcliffe reminded everyone of another case from the Potterverse that shows a pretty big double standard, saying: "I can see why people are frustrated with the response that they were given from that... I'm not saying anything that anybody hasn't already said — and this is a weird analogy to draw — [but] in the NFL, there are lots of players arrested for smoking weed and there is other people's behavior that goes way beyond that and it's tolerated because they're very famous players. I suppose the thing I was struck by was, we did have a guy who was reprimanded for weed on the [original Potter] film, essentially, so obviously what Johnny has been accused of is much greater than that." Yep. In case you forgot, actor Jamie Waylett who played Draco Malfoy's toadie Crabbe (below, left) got busted for growing marijuana in 2009. The studio, in an effort to distance themselves from that notoriety, replaced Crabbe with Blaise Zabini (Louis Cordice) for the two Deathly Hallows films. Does seem like a big double standard for a movie star. Of course, Waylett was arrested and plead guilty -- a bit of a different situation. What do YOU think?? [Image via Warner Bros..].....»»

Johnny Depp Paid $7000 For A Couch From KUWTK…

Back in January, Johnny Depp sued his ex-management company The Management Group for $25 million after they allegedly took millions in fees without his consent. The company responded with a cross-complaint blaming the actor's financial woes on his excessive spending. Related: Johnny Depp Apologizes For Donald Trump Assassination Joke On Thursday, TMG came back with an amended cross-complaint and are -- once again -- accusing the Pirates of the Caribbean star of living an extravagant lifestyle he couldn't afford! According to documents: "TMG repeatedly warned and advised Depp to reduce his spending and sell unnecessary assets. But ultimately, the decision whether and how to spend his money was a decision for Depp to make... Depp listened to no one, including TMG and his other advisors, and he demanded they fund a lifestyle that was extravagant and extreme." So what did the 54-year-old blow his money on? Apparently, he spent "well over $500,000" in storage fees, $1 million in expenses for his Bahamian islands, $17,000 in Prada luggage and handbags, and $7000 to "pay for and then store a couch from the set of Keeping Up With the Kardashians… which was a present for his daughter, Lily-Rose." Damn! Kris Jenner made some serious dough! The management firm also responds to claims they made unauthorized loans using his money, and instead points the finger at two of Depp's employees! "To underscore just how frivolous this claim is, on information and belief, Depp has made no claim for reimbursement of any of these funds... Depp would attempt to have the world believe that TMG acted improperly at the same time he is still employing these two individuals in important, high-level positions even after they supposedly took well over $7 million in unauthorized distributions. Of course, this is not the case and Depp knows it." This lawsuit is just as dramatic as an episode of KUWTK! [Image via Kento Nara/Future Image/WENN.].....»»

Peter Jackson Responds to Harvey Weinstein"s Denial of "Lord of the Rings" Casting Story

Peter Jackson has released a lengthy statement in response to Harvey Weinstein‘s denial of blacklisting Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino during the Lord of the Rings casting process. The Weinstein brothers were involved with the fantasy franchise when their studio Miramax was helping develop the films. The studio didn’t end up green-lighting the movie and the franchise moved to New Line, where the final decisions were made. Harvey‘s rep claims that he had no input on casting as “all casting was done by New Line.” Peter says that during his initial conversations with Weinstein, he brought up Ashley and Mira as possibly casting choices and he was told to “steer clear” of them “because they claimed to have had ‘bad experiences’ with these particular actresses in the past.” “This type of comment is not unusual – it can happen with any studio on any film, when different actor’s names come up in conversation – but once you hear negative feedback about somebody, you don’t forget it,” Peter said in his statement to Deadline. He added, “The movies changed hands from Miramax to New Line before casting actually got underway – but because we had been warned off Ashley and Mira by Miramax, and we were naive enough to assume we’d been told the truth, Fran [Walsh] and I did not raise their names in New Line casting conversations.” Click inside to read the full statement… Read the full statement from Peter Jackson below: Aspects of Harvey’s denial are insincere. He is basically saying that “this blacklisting couldn’t be true because New Line cast the movie”. That’s a deflection from the truth. In the 18 months we developed the Lord of the Rings at Miramax, we had many casting conversations with Harvey Weinstein, Bob Weinstein and their executives. During this period, no offers were made to actors because that occurs after a film is greenlit, and Miramax never greenlit these films. However, many conversations occurred internally regarding potential casting. Fran Walsh and I recall that Morgan Freeman, Paul Scofield, David Bowie, Liam Neeson, Natascha McElhone, Claire Forlani, Francesca Annis, Max von Sydow, and Daniel Day Lewis were some of the names discussed with Miramax for possible roles in The Lord of the Rings movies. Amongst the many names raised, Fran and I expressed our enthusiasm for Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino. In fact we met with Ashley and discussed two possible roles with her. After this meeting we were told by Miramax to steer clear of both Ashley and Mira, because they claimed to have had “bad experiences” with these particular actresses in the past. Fran Walsh was in the same meeting, and remembers these negative comments about Ashley and Mira as clearly as I do. We have no reason to make it up. This type of comment is not unusual – it can happen with any studio on any film, when different actor’s names come up in conversation – but once you hear negative feedback about somebody, you don’t forget it. We were not in a position to offer Ashley or Mira a role in the movies, but we attempted to have their names added to a list, for when casting began. Each role can have many actors names listed for future auditions and meetings. In these film maker/studio relationships, there has to be consensus in casting choices – either side can generally veto suggested names for various reasons, and in pre-Lord of the Rings days, we didn’t have the power to override the studio on casting choices. The movies changed hands from Miramax to New Line before casting actually got underway – but because we had been warned off Ashley and Mira by Miramax, and we were naive enough to assume we’d been told the truth, Fran and I did not raise their names in New Line casting conversations. Nearly 20 years later, we read about the sexual misconduct allegations being made against Harvey Weinstein and we saw comments by both Mira and Ashley, who felt they had been blacklisted by Miramax after rejecting Harvey’s sexual advances. Fran and I immediately remembered Miramax’s negative reaction when we put their names forward, and we wondered if we had unwittingly been part of the alleged damage to their careers, at the hands of Miramax. We have no direct evidence linking Ashley and Mira’s allegations to our Lord of the Rings casting conversations of 20 years ago – but we stand by what we were told by Miramax when we raised both of their names, and we are recounting it accurately. If we were unwitting accomplices in harming their careers, Fran and I unreservedly apologise to both Ashley and Mira......»»
