Margot Robbie co-stars as Milne’s wife, who is tired of the country life and years for her previous life in London, while Kelly Macdonald is Olivia, a nanny who in Macdonald’s words, serves as the “heart and soul” of Christopher’s life. Off screen,  however, the relationship between Robbie and Macdonald was just fine. “It was so good but I have to be horrible to her the whole time, which is kind of funny,” said Robbie. “Unfortunately our characters aren’t friends but off screen we had a great time together as did everyone. It was a really nice cast. It was a really nice crew and where we shot was so beautiful. The film deals with Milne’s understandable struggles after serving in World War I and the close bond he builds with his son Christopher (Will Tilston). “There was a lot of research involved,” said Gleeson. “Ann Thwait’s book was very helpful. Obviously there were his memoirs. There were Christopher Robin’s books. His plays, and then reading Winnie The Pooh - obviously that was the easiest. The rest of it was pretty hardcore and a lot of study of post traumatic stress disorder as well. But you drop all of that when you start filming.” Margot Robbie, who previously worked with Gleeson in About Time, co-stars as Milne’s wife Daphne. Click on the media bar to hear Gleeson talk about what he hopes audiences gets out of the film: Goodbye Christopher Robin, directed by Simon Curtis (Woman in Gold) opens nationwide October 13.
