People Are LIVID Over The All-Female Lord Of The Flies Remake — Find Out Why!

Audiences are craving female-driven stories and nostalgia these days, so combining the two seems like a guaranteed slam dunk. But not every male-driven classic works with the opposite gender... specifically, when the entire premise of a story revolves around boys being idiots because they're boys. That's what people are frantically trying to point out after Warner Bros. announced plans to remake Lord of the Flies -- but with young girls stranded on the island instead of boys! Related: Patty Jenkins Responds To James Cameron's Wonder Woman Slam! Those who read William Golding's 1954 novel (or even Sparknoted it) say the story wouldn't make sense with all girls because it was meant to show the pitfalls of toxic masculinity. Many critics mused that instead of turning into barbaric animals, a group of stranded girls would either peacefully work together or just leave each other the fuck alone. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that the remake will be written and directed by two men, Scott McGehee and David Siegel -- which is hardly a sign we're in for the feminist coming-of-age film of the decade. What do you think, Perezious Bookworms? Can Lord of the Flies be successfully remade with a group of girls? See what people are saying and comment (below)! An all women remake of Lord of the Flies makes no sense because... the plot of that book wouldn't happen with all women. — roxane gay (@rgay) August 31, 2017 imagine having such little interest in seeking out original stories about girlhood by women that you remake LORD OF THE FLIES with girls — JamesHurleyVEVO (@soalexgoes) August 30, 2017 An all female Lord of the Flies? Sigh. There are plenty of good original women's stories to tell. Why do we have to remake classic lit? — Proud Grandstander (@JYates_doula) August 31, 2017 like imagine missing the point of a classic book when u could've sought original stories about girlhood written by women — froy (@froynextdoor) August 31, 2017 "all-female Lord of the Flies remake" SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE MISSED THE FUUUUUCKIN POINT OF LORD OF THE FLIES — Gavia Baker-Whitelaw (@Hello_Tailor) August 30, 2017 I am all for diversity in Hollywood but.....all female Lord of the Flies is a no from me pic.twitter.com/PCrZa5pvFb — Age N. (@_BetterWithAge) August 31, 2017 The female-led Lord of the Flies wouldn't ever happen because women would just branch off into their own respective groups peacefully — rachel leishman (@RachelLeishman) August 30, 2017 All female Lord of the Flies? I thought they made that already and it was called Mean Girls. #topical pic.twitter.com/7dfaeui8EO — Bit (Neat!) Raptor (@bit_raptor) August 31, 2017 the all-girl remake of lord of the flies wont work bc realistically the girls would set aside their differences & work to get off the island — ellie (@spikejonzes) August 31, 2017 lord of the flies is about the pitfalls of masculinity. don't bring the women into this, we don't care about your ass-mar — savannah brown (@savannxhb) August 31, 2017 [Image via Sony Pictures.].....»»

Harvey Weinstein Accused Of Violently Attacking Cannes Chauffeur After He Failed To Pick Up Prostitutes For Him

Harvey Weinstein is being called out for more disgusting behavior! "The Pig," as he's known in Cannes, has previously been accused of beating up a chauffeur, who he requested pick up hookers for him. Mickael Chemloul described to Nice-Matin, a publication local to Nice, France, about being attacked by the movie producer in 2013, and even suing [...] Harvey Weinstein is being called out for more disgusting behavior! "The Pig," as he's known in Cannes, has previously been accused of beating up a chauffeur, who he requested pick up hookers for him. Mickael Chemloul described to Nice-Matin, a publication local to Nice, France, about being attacked by the movie producer in 2013, and even suing him in 2014. The case was "inexplicably dismissed" despite the driver offering up the medical records showing his injuries. Related: Harvey Could Still Face Prosecution For Rose McGowan Rape According to his account, on July 14, 2013, he says he drove Harvey to a beach club, Club 55, to meet two prostitutes. They didn't end up showing, so he violently went at Mickael: "He went crazy and hit me. At that moment, there was no question I'd never work for him again." He also talked to French media outlet BFMTV about bringing Harvey young women, who often left his room in tears: "I felt like driving poor innocent people, innocent girls, taking them into the wolf's mouth and I could not tell them 'where you put your feet, it's dangerous.' The one that marked me the most was a girl who was a fan of him, who loved him, who followed him for years. She gave her body, her soul, she ave everything to this gentleman because he promised her to make castings and make a film she never shot." The professional driver is writing a book about his experiences with the mogul, his working title currently being The Last Monster of Hollywood. A Weinstein spokesperson denied the allegations, telling The Hollywood Reporter: "There was never any altercation between the driver and Mr. Weinstein. The driver was terminated by the company because of his habit of speeding, many times as fast as 140 miles per hour. It is a fallacy that the driver procured any meetings of any kind with anyone for Mr. Weinstein or anyone else at the company. He was a driver and that was his sole task." Others who have worked with the disgraced 65-year-old have described his "pig"-like ways. A longtime bartender at the Hotel du Cap, a favorite of Harvey's and also allegedly the location where Asia Argento claims she was raped, shared: "[With Harvey] it's everything you have read, and worse. He was always in here with one or two young girls, very loud, but we are always polite because he is a guest. Unfortunately, now he is the most famous person to have stayed here." And a housekeeper at another of Harvey's favorite hotels, the Majestic Hotel, didn't recognize his name but immediately recognized his picture: "Oh, he was the ugly one who thought he was God. I didn't even know who he was, but he was very bossy. Men like George Clooney or Brad Pitt, they were such lovely men and so handsome. But not him. He was a mean pig." An unnamed agent who is said to have worked with the producer for years in Cannes, described to THR: "Harvey was a Jekyll and Hyde character, and one of those sides is a true artist; the other side is pretty hard to swallow. We warned all our clients that he was a groper and a pig." Meanwhile, another anonymous source told Le Parisien: "He was known in Cannes simply as 'The Pig.'" That nickname doesn't even begin to describe him now with all the allegations of sexual harassment and assault. [Image via WENN.].....»»

Jessica Chastain Describes What It Was Like Calling Out Cannes" Representation of Women

Jessica Chastain is looking flawless on the cover of Elle Canada‘s September 2017 issue. Here’s what the Oscar nominated actress had to share with the mag: On claiming her place: “Everyone has to learn how to live in an environment that has not made it easy for women to claim their place, so I think it’s all women’s responsibility to step forward. My goal is that a girl will watch The Martian or Interstellar and think ‘I want to be an astronaut or a quantum physicist.’ It’s important to show powerful women who are good at their jobs because young girls need those examples.” On questions she gets asked: “To be honest, I get pretty great, varied questions. I will say that the very first year I did press was when The Tree of Life came out and I was this unknown. At the end of the movie, my character kisses Brad Pitt’s character, and I was always getting asked, ‘What was it like kissing Brad Pitt?’ You get that whenever you do a movie with a famous male star, and I’m like, ‘Guys, come on!’ because it focuses on something that it’s not about.” On calling out the movie selection at Cannes: “I’ve always been someone who speaks her mind, but the thing is I love Cannes so much. I talked to the festival director beforehand about what I was witnessing in those films and how it made me feel about how the world sees women. He actually said, ‘You should say something.’ It was never about me going against Cannes or stabbing someone in the back…. But my experience with the press is that sometimes things can be taken out of context, so in a situation like that, where I’m in front of all these journalists, speaking what I believe in my heart, I feel very vulnerable. In many cases, the media like to find something negative or turn it into a fight, especially when it pits women against each other, and I was aware of that while I was speaking. Like, ‘Here I go speaking my truth, but someone is going to misinterpret these words.’” For more from Jessica, visit ElleCanada.com......»»

Dunkirk Wins The Box Office This Week As The Emoji Movie Struggles In Opening Weekend

Another weekend, another new day at the box office! Dunkirk is the biggest winner this week, thanks to a $28.1 million haul this week and a cumulative $102.8 million domestic pull through its second week on Sunday — and another $45.6 million overseas from 62 more markets. The war movie has done particularly well in the United [...] Another weekend, another new day at the box office! Dunkirk is the biggest winner this week, thanks to a $28.1 million haul this week and a cumulative $102.8 million domestic pull through its second week on Sunday -- and another $45.6 million overseas from 62 more markets. The war movie has done particularly well in the United Kingdom, with a tally of $35.4 million this weekend -- already surpassing the lifetime U.K. cume of director Christopher Nolan's last movie, Interstellar. Related: Angelina Jolie Refutes Controversy Over First They Killed My Father Casting Practices Meanwhile, The Emoji Movie -- which had been getting brutally bad reviews from critics -- didn't do so hot in theaters but actually outshot some of its projections, taking in $25.7 million. Sony president of worldwide marketing and distribution Josh Greenstein seemed happy about The Emoji Movie's weekend, saying: "We are thrilled the audience has spoken and embraced The Emoji Movie." Sony is seeing the film as a major victory, in part because it cost about $50 million to produce, which is a relative bargain for a major studio animated film. But it still couldn't get close to Dunkirk!!! The other new release this weekend, Charlize Theron's Atomic Blonde, took in $18.6 million for Focus Features, a specialty company nestled under Universal Studios. Related: Brad Pitt Confirms He's "Got Nothing To Hide" The $18.6 million showing -- plus another $5.9 million from overseas -- is actually a very solid showing for Atomic Blonde, which is based on the graphic novel The Coldest City and took a lot of chances in its production. Focus Features distribution president Lisa Bunnell said of the film: "This film takes a lot of chances. David takes action to another level, and Charlize Theron an unbelievable job being able to kick ass just likes the guys. This is a stylized, provocative, sexual and brazen film, which is why Focus got involved." Meanwhile, as far as older releases go, Girls Trip continues to do VERY well, taking in $20.1 million in its second outing for a domestic total of $65.1 million -- by far the most successful live-action comedy move to date this year. What about you, Perezcious readers?! Did you see anything in theaters this weekend?? Let us know what you saw in the comments (below)!!! [Image via Warner Bros..].....»»
