50 Life Hacks You Can Use to Improve Your Mood & Happiness

Hitting a slump is something that almost everyone goes through at some point and it can be caused by a myriad of things. Maybe it is poor diet, maybe your environment isn’t conducive to positivity, maybe your friends are bringing you down, or you’re just too stressed out. No matter what it is, you can take your mind back! In the article below, you can read 50 tips and tricks to hack your way to happiness. Body Try Vitamins: A deficiency in iron can have similar symptoms to depression like fatigue, irritability, lack of motivation, and more. Research completed in 2017 found that 40% of Americans have a B12 deficiency which also leads to depression. Taking a multivitamin is not going to be a panacea but it could be causing you to feel down in the dumps. It could also help your joints feel better, your gut function better, and so on. Feeling healthier is a big factor in feeling happier. Eat Less Processed Food: It’s no secret that what you eat can change the way your brain functions and alter your brain chemistry. Refined carbohydrates, sugar, trans fats, artificial sweeteners, and just processed food, in general, can all lead to a bad mood. There is evidence that aspartame (a common sugar substitute) decreases serotonin in the brain. High blood sugar can cause irritability, and a diet full of sugar can cause more bodily inflammation. All of these things can lead to feeling low and if left unchecked can lead to full-blown depression. Take A Nap: Taking a nap is almost the human version of “Have you tried turning it off and then back on again?” But, there’s a reason why people suggest it and that’s that it just works. Sleep deprivation is extremely prevalent, and naps are amazing. In the Journal of Sleep Research, it was published that naps improve cognitive performance. A doctoral student at the University of Michigan found that participants that had a short nap were less impulsive and had a greater tolerance for frustration. Get Active: Exercise is something that most people dread and this is a tip that you will read in every single one of the list like this one, but it’s worth looking into. Exercise releases endorphins, which are the feel-good hormones in your brain. Movement can decrease stress in a matter of minutes, and stress is a leading factor in feelings of unhappiness and irrational mood swings. Have Breakfast: Not controlling your blood sugar can cause feelings of irritability, increased frustration, trouble focusing, and more. None of those things are going to help lift your spirits. To combat that, you can make sure that you eat breakfast (even just a small one). This leads to more stable glucose levels throughout the day, gets you ready to face the day, and might even help you shed a few pounds. Meditate: When you come across a stressful situation, or when you sit in your car after clocking out for the day, you sigh out [...] The post 50 Life Hacks You Can Use to Improve Your Mood & Happiness appeared first on PopCrunch......»»

10 Miserable Facts About Being Happy

Many of us are involved in a daily quest for happiness and why not? Life is best when we’re happy. Chilling with loved ones, doing our favorite hobby, dancing the night away, etc. they’re the things that memories are made of. Yet, there’s a dark side to happiness and here we have 10 miserable facts about being happy: Some People Cannot Ever Be Happy Happiness is a product of our environment, right? Well, to some extent it is true that what we’re doing or surrounded by can have a huge impact on our happiness. But the bad news for some people is that our ability to be happy is a genetic thing and some people just don’t have the happiness gene. In fact people who are really happy have two copies of that gene. People without it are generally unhappy. Holidays Don’t Make Us Happy You’d think that taking a vacation pretty much anywhere would boost your happiness levels but this, according to the latest research at least, isn’t the case. In a study of more than 1,500 vacations they discovered that in the vast majority of cases holidays don’t make us happy. In fact, they have very little impact on our overall happiness. The only exception to this depressing rule is that people who take “very relaxing” breaks do report a boost in their happiness. Other People Make Us Sad Actually this isn’t 100% true but research from “The Great Brain Experiment” showed that what makes us unhappy or happy isn’t interacting with other people. It’s having more in our lives than the people around us – if all the people you know appear to be doing better than you; you’ll be miserable. Conversely, if they’re all having a lousy time – you’ll be flying high. Our happiness is often relative to the background of happiness we’re exposed to. We’re Less Happy Than Ever Before We live in a world of endless opportunity, technological marvels and ever improving health and that’s making us miserable. Back in the 1970s when they first started to measure the background level of happiness in America people were much happier than when they measured that level in 2010. In fact, happiness has been on a constant decline since they first measured it. Maybe it’s the measuring that affects happiness? Or maybe life really is less enjoyable when you have much more choice in front of you? Some People Are Scared of Happiness While most people say they’d embrace happiness; there are many cultures in which there’s a distinct (and measurable) fear of happiness. If you were to visit India or Hong Kong, for example, you’d find that that happiness holds cultural stigma and people aren’t very keen on the idea – they’re happy-phobic if you like. Research also finds that people who are in an Islamic culture are likely to perceive sadness and hardship as necessary to commune properly with God and thus they too become happiness averse. So while people want to be happy – many will avoid the opportunity to actually be [...].....»»

Shangela: The Socialite Life Interview

The most shocking moment in the season premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race occurred […] More Socialite Life debuted back in 2003. SL Flashback showcases some of our favorite content from years past. The most shocking moment in the season premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race occurred when season two contestant Shangela (a/k/a Shangela Laquifa Wadley, the Debutantess of the Deep South) returned to compete for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar”. Although she may not have as much experience as her fellow competitors, she’s surely got just as much heart and passion for performing. You can’t not be in a good mood when you talk to Shangela! We chatted with Shangela about her return to Drag Race, how she got her start as a drag entertainer and her future plans. With her infectious personality and homegrown charm, it’s easy to see how this queen got a second chance to compete for the title! Shangela: Halleloo, somebody! Socialite Life: Halleloo! Hi Shangela! How are you? Shangela: I am fabulous! How are you today? SL: I’m great because I’m talking to you! Shangela: Aww, yay! Thank you for that, I appreciate that. SL: I was so happy to see you come back on RuPaul’s Drag Race Shangela: Well, honey, only half as happy as I was to be back! SL: On the premiere, they made sure to let the viewers (and the other queens) know that you had to audition again to get on Drag Race 3. Shangela: That’s right, just like everyone else! You know, there were tons and tons of applicants – even more than the first two years – this year, so the competition was stiffer. But, you know, I felt like I worked so hard over the last year and why not? I really wanted to come back and show that I am America’s Next Drag Superstar – not because I’m specialized in one specific area, just because I work hard in all of the different areas. I feel like I’ve been in “drag boot camp” over the last year! So, I was excited to put in an audition tape and hopefully come back and I was just lucky that RuPaul felt the same way. SL: What was it like to get that second chance? Shangela: Girl! I’ll tell you this, the day I got the call, I really, really almost didn’t believe it because, going on the show, doing the second season, I’d only been doing drag for five months – and to get a huge honor like that to compete with 12 other of the best divas out there, I already had such a great opportunity. And I was only on one episode, you know this, but I worked it as hard as I could over the next year, just to get better and take what I learned from that one episode and go farther. So, I was like, “I’m going to try this” and to get that call saying “We’re going to bring you back” and you get another shot at this – it’s a second chance at life really. And you play it in your head like, “Okay, what am I going to do better? How am I going to turn this time?”, but it’s so much more pressure too because when you get a second chance, I feel people judge you more critically. Let’s keep standing united to end conversion therapy everywhere and make our community even stronger. Halleloo! (And can I take a quick sec to feel my oats about Dan Reynolds standing and jammin to my live performance of Uptown Fish last night lol) A post shared by Shangela (DJ) (@itsshangela) on Nov 4, 2018 at 7:14am PST SL: Was the reaction of the other girls when they first saw you this season creative editing or did they really have those expressions on their faces when they laid eyes on you? Shangela: Girl, if it was creative editing, I need to hire that person to get the reactions for everything I say in life! Those were the most real expressions on their faces – you know, I jump out of a Christmas box – first of all, I look like “jack-in-the-box Shangela” – and I come popping out of this box and to see all of those faces, their jaws were just on the ground. And I thought that – you know me, I’m Shangela, I hug everybody – so I’m like “Hey, I’m back! How is everybody?” and everyone’s looking at me like, “Who? Oh, really?” SL: Do you feel like the competition is stiffer this season? Shangela: Well, you know, I was only there for one episode last season and this year’s girls are a completely different batch from last year’s girls. I can’t really comparatively judge them – but I can tell you that this year’s girls were sickening! Because as more people are competing, Ru and the judges – and everyone who chooses the contestants on the show – they’re having to see everyone pulling out the best of the best. So, definitely, it was a tough competition and these girls are stiff competition, period. SL: So, let’s talk about you. How did you get your start in drag? Shangela: Well, you know, this is pretty much my anniversary month. I’ve been doing drag now for exactly two years but going on the show, I’d only been doing it for 4 months. I kind of fell into it, to be honest with you. I was choreographing a number, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”, for these three guys who were doing a charity event here in West Hollywood and, the night before the guys were to go on, one of them got sick. So they called me and said (of course, I wasn’t Shangela yet), “DJ, is there any way you can help us out? You know all of the steps and we really want to do this as a trio” and I’m thinking, “I don’t have any wigs, I don’t have any makeup.” But…well, you know, I’m gay, honey! So, just a man around the corner has a wig, a dress, something in your size, a bra, some pads…and the next thing you know, I was filling in for him. And the guy who runs the show said, “I would love for you to come back and I would love to book you for our show” and I said “Oh, this isn’t my thing. I’m not a drag performer, I was just filling in” and he said, “You can win money” And girl, you know we’re in a recession! (Laughs) But, to be honest with you, I’ve always been a performer. I’ve been a backup dancer for some of the best drag queens in the business back in Texas and I always watched them and I learned by watching but I just love to entertain. So I say it chose me and I fell into it and now I’m just loving it. View this post on Instagram LaQuifa HOME Collection A post shared by Shangela (DJ) (@itsshangela) on Oct 6, 2018 at 3:17am PDT SL: How did the character of Shangela come to life – and how would you describe her? Shangela: Well, she’s evolved, okay? (Laughs) I’ll tell you this – Shangela is a little bit bougy, but she’s also your homegirl. I’ve always stuck to that and I also have affectionately titled myself “The Debutantess of the Deep South” – and that speaks a lot about Shangela. Shangela is sweet, she’s somewhat refined but she’s also your girl from the block. Anybody you want to call or go out with – the party girl who’s going to tell it like it is – that’s Shangela. SL: I saw you do stand up on Logo and I thought you were hilarious! Is that something you had done before you started doing drag? Shangela: Well, you know, the really cool thing is – and I don’t know if you know this – but before I went on Drag Race, I’d been working a 9-to-5 office life in PR for the last couple of years and, you know, sometimes you just feel – I don’t know if you ever feel like this – but I felt like this just isn’t everything that I want out of my life. It’s great, it works for a lot of people but, for me, I felt almost trapped. I was getting up at seven to be on the road by eight, be at the office by nine and then leave at six, get home at seven, go to bed at ten to get back up at seven – you know? And that was every day of the week and I just felt like when I got the opportunity to go on Drag Race, this was my shot. And my job told me, “If you go there, we’re not going to be able to keep your job for you”, so I quit – in the middle of a recession – and that’s not an easy thing to do but when you have a passion, sometimes you’ve got to step out on a little bit of faith – halleloo! So that’s what I did, and luckily, it worked out really well for me. It opened the door for me. I didn’t go back to work…here’s the thing, when I left to go on Drag Race, I was like, “Baby, yes, I’m going to win this. I’m going to take care of my family and I’m going to be the next drag superstar” – and I went home after the first episode. And I kind of had a little moment of shock like, “Oh my God, what have I done? I quit my job. I don’t have any checks coming in. What’s going on?” – but that opened the door for me to really do what I’m supposed to do with my life – and that’s being an entertainer. I started doing stand up comedy at a couple of clubs here in Los Angeles and they picked me up at The Comedy Store. They said, “We think you’re funny. We want you to come every two weeks.” and from there, they cast me to do stand up comedy and host the Logo comedy special. So all of that’s kind of come as a result of me following my dreams – and starting it with Drag Race. SL: Do you think being able to do stand up is a benefit to your drag career? Shangela: Oh my God, yes! Any time I can be on a stage and perform is a benefit to my career. Any time that I can make someone else laugh or touch someone’s life – because you really don’t know how much laughter impacts our world, it really does. And that’s what I think I bring to my everyday life…you ask my friends, honey, their stomachs are hurting all of the time because we just sit around and laugh! But I love to bring that to the stage so I think that, yeah, being in drag definitely helps me have more experiences that are crazy and funny – and I can take them right to the stage. SL: When you’re on stage, what do you enjoy the most about performing? Shangela: It’s the connection that you get with the audience. You know, a lot of people can put a great look together and get on stage and they look gorgeous and they do their song – if it’s a lip sync – or they do their form of entertainment; but if you don’t connect with the audience, then the people in the audience don’t get the full experience of being at the show. And that’s what I bring every time I hit the stage – that’s what I really want to bring is an experience. It’s not just, “I’m going to see Shangela”. It’s “I’m going to experience Shangela” and that’s what you get! That’s what I love about being on stage, the way you can really connect with people in the audience and have a good time! SL: As far as inspirations for your drag performances – do you have any? Shangela: Oh, definitely! I have so many because I’m new – so everything is so wide-eyed to me. I get so much from so many different people. I look at people’s fashion or I look at the way people bring fire to the stage, there’s always me in the performance but a lot of times – especially makeup, honey! I have a drag mother who I got after I started doing drag – but I used to dance back-up for her. Her name is Alyssa Edwards out of Dallas, Texas. Now she is the most winningest…can I say, bitch? She is the most winningest bitch in captivity, okay? She has won every pageant because she’s refined and what I have in entertainment I’ve had to really try and gather fast to meet that or match it with refinement, with makeup and the ability to sew and create costumes and just to be organized with your drag – because it can be a lot. So, I learned a lot from her. I’ve learned a little from afar by watching Ru as a businessperson – making drag, not just a past time or a hobby – but, as I said, I left my job and this is what I do full-time now. It’s now a business. It’s about marketing, it’s about branding, it’s about connecting to your fans, it’s about being fresh, new and re-inventing yourself – and that’s what I hope to continue to bring. SL: Do you think your background in PR has helped you in your drag career? Shangela: You know, my background in life helps it out! And, I’m just fortunate – definitely the PR piece, because you can go into a meeting and people are talking about, “We’re going to do these t-shirts with you” and you can know that there needs to be a strategy behind just putting some t-shirts together. There needs to be a business model that works with doing everything in drag – you know, a big misconception about drag queens is that this is what they’ve done all of their lives. And there are some drag queens who have – and that’s great for them – but I know drag queens who are attorneys, I know drag queens who, you know, have full, married lives and have children and I know drag queens who are creative in the arts – artists, stylists, everything – we come from all walks of life. So I think a lot of us – including myself – bring what we have from our background and put it into our drag to make us successful. SL: Were you able to learn anything or take anything away from this season’s experience? Shangela: A check! (Laughs) I’m telling you, what I always take away from last year’s experience on Drag Race and this year’s experience on Drag Race is not only the connection, the family with the other girls – because you know there are some catty bitches in that room, okay? There are! And they will fight tooth and nail to get to the top, as when you’re in a competition you sometimes have to. But what the viewers at home don’t get to see is that after the show and even during in the show, we develop such great relationships between a couple of us – and that’s what I love – the sisterhood of drag – because you can’t get far without helping someone else and someone else has to bump you and that’s what I really believe in. I get so many emails and so many calls from new drag queens on the scene – because I think that’s part of the genre of the group that I represent as well because I’m so new – and fierce! I really have to be a role model for them and I think it’s important that we help each other – and, on the show, you don’t get to see it, but we’ve built a great sisterhood there – a family. SL: What kind of advice are you giving to these aspiring drag queens? Shangela: Well, I’d say watch, listen, learn and always do you! That’s it! You can watch a lot of people – but you don’t want to become anyone else – the whole thing about drag is that its self-expression. It’s unleashed, okay? Anything that you think that can’t be done in drag…yes, it can! If you’re a nasty, stank ho and you want to get on the stage…that’s you’re drag – you do you! That’s not Shangela! But you do you! And that’s my advice to all of them. Makeup…that’s the “watch, listen, learn” part – the makeup, the putting yourself together, the hoe to be organized, the how to make it work…but when you get on stage, ain’t nobody there but you and the lights! So you have to do you! SL: Is there a lot of DJ in Shangela? Shangela: Yes, but Shangela takes it to the next level – a different level. In my day-to-day life, I’m entertaining, I’m funny, I love my friends, we have a good time, that kind of thing…yes! Shangela’s more of an all out-there partier. You’re going to see me on the stage at the club, having a good time, toasting it up with the girls. I’m a little bit louder – if you can even imagine that because I’m mighty loud today! But, I just take it up a notch and when you’re a girl – or when you’re putting on an illusion – it’s a full-on illusion to me. When you meet Shangela, you get the Shangela voice, the Shangela essence, the Shangela smell – I mean, I am Juicy Couture fish! I love just putting all of that together as Shangela. Now, in my day-to-day life, I’m not so glamorous all of the time. Right now, I’m just sitting here – I just helped my friend with a photo shoot this morning at the LA river, and I’m very “call me up, I’ll help anyone” and I was holding a reflector, I’ve got my hair snatched back in a bun with a baseball cap on with sunglasses – that’s the farthest thing from glamour that you can get! But you’ll never see Shangela in a pair of sweats – I don’t even show up at the club in a pair of tennis shoes, no ma’am! SL: What do you think separates you from the other queens this season? View this post on Instagram #AStarIsBorn #UKPremiere Dress: @diegomontoya3d; Styled by: @derekanthonypurcell Hair: @ashleiiman; Hair Styled by @justmaydoes; Jewelry: Maria Isabel; Body Bronzer: @bludline A post shared by Shangela (DJ) (@itsshangela) on Sep 27, 2018 at 2:13pm PDT Shangela: We’re all very, very different. You’ve seen the first episode, you can already see a lot of the really sharp differences. I think what sets me apart is that…well, two things. One, I’ve been in this setting before, so I feel like I have something to prove this time around. So, the fire in me, I feel is burning a little bit brighter – it’s a little bit hotter because I feel like I have so much to prove…I have a huge weight on my shoulders, being brought back to represent those who haven’t been doing it for a long time, to say it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing something, you can still rock it and you can be the fiercest bitch in the room! It’s not years of experience, it’s how hard you’re willing to work, and I think that’s what really sets me apart in this room is that I’m here to work – and that is W-E-R-Q! – with the exclamation point! I’m going to work, so I think that’s what sets me apart. I don’t want to be the baby of the group this time around even though I have the least amount of experience in drag. I’m nobody’s baby. My years of experience are less than the other girls, but then again, the fire is burning hot and somebody better step back or you’re going to get burned! SL: What would people be surprised to know about you? Shangela: I’m a very open book, a lot of people don’t know that I’m from Paris, Texas. I tell everyone that as soon as I meet them, but they look at me and say, “You don’t have a Texas twang.” Well, you know, give me a bucket of chicken and a Coca-Cola and the next thing you know, I’m just as country as can be! But, I am from Paris, Texas. It’s a very small town and I grew up with my grandparents and my Mom came back from the military and I grew up with her in a single-family home and I really worked a lot to have the experiences in my life that I’ve had. But you wouldn’t know that I’ve worked on the hill for a year or that I studied abroad in Madrid in art history…nobody wants to know all of that, they just want to see what you have on the stage. But there are so many layers to me, and I love just sharing a lot and everything about me, so there’s not a lot people don’t know about me – if you choose to get to know me. SL: How would you describe your look? Shangela: Sickening – that’s pretty much the way you would describe my look! To be honest with you, I think that my look just…there’s so many looks because it’s drag…the everyday Shangela is glamour and homegirl – all together. It’s glamour girl from the streets – because, with me, I always keep it real. I can have on the Alexander McQueen, straight off the runway, and look fish sickening boots – and we can still roll in that to the Taco Bell. That’s who I am and that essence of me keeping it real just comes with everything – and I think that’s the best way that you can connect with people – there are no walls, there is no diva attitude – I am a diva, make no mistake, when I come into a room, I feel like it’s important to say, “I’m here”, but you don’t have to say that out loud to do that, you just have to walk in and be – and that’s Shangela. SL: What does the future hold for Shangela? Shangela: Well, specifically, on the show, I want to win – so, my aspiration is to go home as America’s Next Drag Superstar. In addition to that, I really just want to be able to show that there’s so many different talents to drag queens to me, as Shangela, that I hope I’m able to express to the full extent on the show. I’m a comedian, I’m an entertainer, I’m a host – I would love after the show to go on and represent – whether it be brands or a show host, having someone sitting on my couch every week and keeping it real and talking. Be the Andy Cohen, have a Life on the D List – I live here in Los Angeles and I am a diva on the rise. So, with all of those experiences, people should be able to see those and experience those as well and hopefully, one day, I’ll have a platform to share that with them. SL: Do you have any interest in a singing career? Shangela: You know, I think that a lot of girls have done great with their careers, from season two especially – and season one. I know that my sister Sahara Davenport just put out a new single “Pump with Me” which is kick-ass, it’s a dance track. And I love to sing, I’m a Tina Turner fanatic. But I think where I’m going to start is by doing a one-woman show and my calling is entertaining people, making people laugh. Whether it’s singing, putting out a hot dance track – you know, I can disco dance – and I love the Pussycat Dolls – bringing that kind of fire to the stage. But I’m really going to focus on entertaining any way I can right now. If it comes later in a song, it comes later in a song – but I’ve got to write it, it’s got to come from me because I feel that only I can really have my voice and we’re just going to work it out. SL: Are you going to continue doing stand up? Shangela: Yes! Most definitely. I’m bringing a show to New York, I think it’s going to be at Caroline’s on Broadway later this spring so I’m really about that. I work here at The Comedy Store and we just started a new night at Hamburger Mary’s in West Hollywood, and I’m hosting that show as well. You know, I do those shows in drag and out of drag and it’s always a good time! SL: Are you planning on touring after the show? Shangela: Oh, honey, I’m touring! I just launched a new website, Shangela.com – please send everybody and their grandmother to it! It has my entire touring schedule there. I’m on the move, honey! SL: Besides your website, is there any other way fans can keep in touch with you? Shangela: Most definitely! You know, I’m a Tweet from the street, girl! You can follow me on Twitter @itsShangela and on my Facebook fan page! Oh, my God, I have to tell you about the new film! I’m in this new film, as Shangela, called Body of a Barbie, okay? It’s a short film we produced in Los Angeles and it got picked up by BET, it aired last fall, and it’s actually now in the top seven finalists of the BET Lens on Talent program. So, they had this huge competition for short films and our film was in the top seven in the US. It’s called Body of a Barbie and it’ll be back on BET this spring and I’m really excited about that. SL: Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I thought you were awesome on Terriers! Shangela: Oh, thank you! That was my first guest starring role and the writers were so awesome. You know, when I auditioned, I was only on three pages of script, and when I got to San Diego to film it, they thought that the character needed more involvement in the show and it went from three pages to 28 pages of a 42 page script and I wanted to bring the fire, because that episode was directed by Adam Arkin and he was fabulous to work with and they were so great and so respectful and I got to be in drag and out of drag and it’s done a lot of great things for me. Actually, I’m going to be on an episode of this show on ABC called Detroit 1-8-7. We just shot that – me, Coco Peru and Jai Rodriguez – and it airs February 15th on ABC. SL: Thank you so much for your time and good luck with everything! Shangela: Aww, thank you! I wish I could give you a big hug! Halleloo! This article was originally published on January 25, 2011. 10 Hacks To Build Self Confidence

Self confidence is a skill. When you don’t have it, it is easy to feel like you never will. Not only that, but it is extremely isolating and limits almost every area of your life because you’re afraid to put yourself out there, you’re afraid to do what you need to do in order to realize your greatest potential. You deserve better than that. Using the ten hacks you’ll read below, you can get started on your journey to feeling comfortable in your own skin and realizing that you’re capable of reaching your goals. Face Your Fears You’re going to be uncomfortable in life, it is just part of what we go through. There are always going to be things that scare you, but until you can start to face that fear, you’re trapped. Fear and anxiety are like walls in between us and the things we could accomplish; when you start facing your fears and climbing those walls, you realize that it actually wasn’t so bad. When that happens, you will see that you are capable of confronting your problems, your anxiety, whatever it is, and recognizing you’re capable is going to make you feel more confident. Recognize Everyone Else’s Humanity Part of the reason that people struggle so much with confidence is that we’re constantly looking at other people and comparing ourselves to what we see. Someone might look more put together than you do, or maybe they seem like they do better at work, and that makes you feel bad. Having low self-esteem makes us think that everyone sees us the same way that we do, and that isn’t true. If you take a step back and think about it, you will start to understand that everyone has their problems (just like you) and that many people are scared the same way you are, no matter how good their life looks from where you’re standing. Get Some Exercise Every time you turn around, there is someone somewhere telling you to just try getting some exercise like it is some kind of panacea. It isn’t. But, getting some exercise is good for your body, helps you channel your stress into something productive, releases hormones that improve your mood, and it’s an important act of self-care. When you take better care of yourself, you feel better about yourself, and that is the foundation of building up your confidence. Accept Compliments Self-deprecating humor has become the norm. It is healthy to be able to laugh at yourself, but your self-deprecation shouldn’t spill over into other areas of your life. Denying compliments is something that people do to seem humble, or because they truly don’t believe what the other person is telling them. Instead of disagreeing, just say thank you. Accept that this is how others see you. When you start accepting the positive qualities other people admire in you, it will help you recognize and admire those qualities in yourself. Be Vulnerable This seems counterintuitive, but it is one of the best things you can [...] The post 10 Hacks To Build Self Confidence appeared first on PopCrunch......»»

50 Brain Hacks You Can Use to Supercharge Your Mind

Lifehack is a word that is prevalent all over the internet today, and each day people are inundated with these small vague tips about things that they can integrate into their daily lives to improve them. You may adopt one of these habits for a few days but nothing sticks, because lifehacks don’t often include the why – which is almost more important than the how. The reasons you want to hack your mindset, your fitness, and your nutrition are abundantly clear. You deserve to be productive, healthy, and feel good about your body and your mind. With the hacks below, you get the how and the why on changes that you can make, big or small, that will transform you into your best self and allow you to create the life you deserve. Fitness & Health 1. Do yoga: There is a lot more to a yoga practice than spending way too much money on Lululemon; yoga can help you approach every aspect of your life in a better way and eliminate stress all while making you look great. 2. Fight insomnia caused by electronics: As nice as it would be to be the kind of person who gets off your laptop or cell phone an hour before bedtime, that isn’t realistic for most people. The problem is that the blue light emitted from the screens inhibits the production of melatonin (which puts you to sleep), luckily there are plenty of apps that cause these screens to emit warmer light to help you get a good night’s sleep. 3. Fix your Circadian Rhythm: Insomnia is a highly prevalent problem in the world today, which in turn leads to groggy mornings, unhealthy eating, and limited productivity; by aligning your sleep rhythm with the natural rhythm of the sun, you can solve a lot of these problems. 4. Get enough sun: Time in the sun gives you more than a great tan; it helps your body create vitamin D which helps your body absorb calcium and helps your cells to communicate better. 5. Go float yourself: Float tanks are also called sensory deprivation tanks, and they eliminate all incoming stimuli; this helps your body reach an elevated state of relaxation and has many mental and physical benefits. 6. Invest in your workouts: The Pact app can be used to earn money for healthy actions you take, and you are also financially penalized for not meeting your goals. You can use this system to keep your mind motivated to work out, even when your body isn’t. 7. Jam out while you work out: Music can create bursts of strength when a song you particularly like comes on, and can also enhance your enjoyment of certain activities that may have otherwise been difficult to enjoy; when working out, music has been proven to delay signs of fatigue and aid with endurance. 8. Lift heavy: Lifting heavier weights increases the endorphins your body releases during your workout which leads to a positive and sometimes even euphoric feeling causing you [...].....»»

Family Finance Tricks to Save Money on Insurance

Money is always a cause for concern in life. When you do not seem to have enough of it, you might feel constantly stressed and at the end of your rope. In many cases, people struggle with finances because they are spending too much in other areas. Your monthly insurance payments, for example, might be far higher than they should be. Many people end up paying a lot for insurance when they could pay far less and still see the same level of coverage. If this sounds familiar to you, you might need a bit of help.   Making the right decisions with your life and car insurance policies can have a profound impact on the future of your finances. When you are sick and tired of feeling like you are always struggling to make ends meet and want to have extra cash so that you can treat yourself to something nice, now is an excellent time to look at some of these tips and see how to make a difference for your own future. Shop Around Right away, it is a good idea to make sure you know about all of the options in front of you. A common mistake people make is going with the first option presented to them. A young person who is getting life insurance for the first time, for example, might decide it is in her or his best interests to go with the company that her or his parents used. While this might seem like a good idea at first, it also might not be the most practical.   This company could be a terrible fit for the needs of a different generation. This means you are going to want to really shop around and research all of your possible options before you make your ultimate decision. Get to know what is out there and learn about options like Columbus life insurance to really give yourself a shot at finding a policy that helps you to save money and get the best possible coverage for your needs. Examine Options With life insurance, you could also be spending a lot of money on options you do not actually need. Many people get sucked into options for their plans without really getting a full idea of what these options are, what they cover, or even how they could benefit a family. Eliminating the options that are not serving a direct purpose for your future can be a good idea. Take a moment to look over all of your current policies and see if there are any options you are paying an arm and a leg for that you do not require.   Saving money for your future is all about knowing where to trim the fat out of your budget. While you might need insurance coverage, you do not need to pay a small fortune in order to get the right coverage for you and your family members. Give yourself plenty of time to examine your current insurance policies, the options included, and the costs related to each. Should you realize you are paying more than you should, now is the time to reach out to a better option and discover how you can get started with a brand new policy.     Money is always a cause for concern in life. Socialite Life debuted back in 2003. SL Flashback showcases some of our favorite content from years past. This past week on RuPaul’s Drag Race, our featured “queen-testant”, the self-described “chunky and funky” diva Latrice Royale, has finally, deservedly, come into her own – and has quickly become a fan favorite! With her infectious, boisterous laugh, nurturing demeanor and boundless enthusiasm, this lady is large, in charge and has definitely shown she’s got what it takes to be America’s Next Drag Superstar. This beautiful “bitch” (that’s “Being In Control of Herself” – in case you didn’t know) chats with us about how she was able to overcome adversity and make it to the top of the drag scene and shares some of her best beauty secrets – and once you get to know Latrice, it’s easy to see that she’s beautiful inside and out. Good God Girl, Get a Grip and get to know this South Beach stunner in our exclusive interview! Socialite Life: Tell me a little bit about yourself. Latrice Royale: I am a California native, 39 years of age. I’ve been in the art of female impersonation and living in South Florida for nearly 20 years. SL: How did you get started in drag? Latrice: My career started as a dare – and from that moment on, I was hooked. SL: You said in your video that you looked like a “hot mess” the first time you dressed in drag. Can you tell me a little more about that? Latrice: LOL…WOW!! I had no clue what I was doing…liquid make-up without powder to set it…frosty blue eyeshadow, because I thought that was the only thing that would show up on my skin tone…LOL…Need I say more??? Lipstick for blush and for my lips…Child, please!! HOT MESS!! SL: How did you come up with your name? Latrice: Well the name “Latrice” came from a childhood friend who I thought was such a beautiful girl. To me, she looked like her name. And “Royale” came from my dear good friend Matt, he said I was “thick and chocolaty, like fudge royale”. Plus when you say it, it’s pleasant on the palate. SL: Who are your biggest influences or inspirations? Latrice: I have to say that I was exposed to some of the finest in the art of female impersonation. South Florida is the home of legends, one, in particular, has had a great influence on me and my career. Her name is Tiffany Arieagus – a living legend. View this post on Instagram Another great shot by @thisisntaj from @mppresent #ADragQueenChristmas Thank you. #latriceroyale #EatIt #AllStars4 This beautiful dress was designed by @thl073 #mybestie and brought to life by @daffneydeluxe A post shared by Latrice Royale (@latriceroyale) on Nov 25, 2018 at 1:36am PST SL: How would you describe your look? Latrice: My look is very eclectic, I don’t just do one specific look. In this business, you have to be a chameleon. And I can fit in and bring fierceness to any situation. SL: You also mentioned in your introductory video that there are “standards” for representing big girls. What does that mean to you? Latrice: Aaah yes…well, simply put? I hate it when people use their size as an excuse to fail. You knew you were big coming into the competition, your size should not be a factor if you are confident in yourself. I make people eat their words all the time, and I LOVE IT!!! SL: You tell us you’ve been through “19 years of boot camp” – what was the most important thing you’ve learned as you’ve developed as a drag queen? Latrice: Be HONEST with yourself! Know who you are and stay true to the good things, and let the “drama” go. SL: What do you enjoy most about performing? Latrice: I absolutely love making people scream and lose their minds! It’s all about shock value for me, and that’s priceless. SL: Where is your favorite place to perform? Latrice: I work at place called Palace Bar on South Beach…baby, when I tell you! It is the most awesome job I’ve had in my nearly 20 years in the business. It’s outside right on Ocean Drive, and we have BLAST! SL: What can people expect to see when they come to see you perform? Latrice: I promise you this, you will be FULLY ENTERTAINED! You are going to see things that will amaze you in every possible good way. SL: Have you ever had an embarrassing moment on stage? Latrice: Oh dear…haven’t we all? LOL! I remember some years ago after I had won my very first pageant, I had a moment. I was entertaining at another pageant and my wig flew off. “Oh Lawd!”, I screamed. I ran, picked up my hair, put it back on and didn’t miss a beat. View this post on Instagram In my #Christmas #Onesie Looking like somebody’s #auntie #adragqueenchristmas @mppresent #meetandgreet A post shared by Latrice Royale (@latriceroyale) on Nov 25, 2018 at 5:01pm PST SL: What do you think separates you from the other queens? Latrice: I can honestly say I am like NO other. My sheer size and the way that I carry it is very unique. SL: What was it like working with RuPaul? Latrice: Although our one on one time with Ru was very limited, it only takes a split second to connect with someone. I truly felt an amazing connection with Ru, he is an incredible soul! SL: What was it like working with the other queens? Latrice: Ya know? I loved meeting the other girls. It’s always interesting to see other people’s art. I can learn to appreciate all forms of art, as long as you can call it “art”. Sometimes it’s just “GRAFFITI”. LOL! SL: What would people be surprised to know about you? Latrice: Can we talk about that in this interview? LOL! No, I’m KIDDING!! What I have learned as of recent, people seem to be surprised at how nice I am. I am very grounded and as real as it gets. SL: You shared a very surprising fact about your personal life in the first episode of the show. What was it like to have cameras in your face while you revealed so much about yourself? Latrice: Going into this situation I decided that I was going to be an open book. Anytime you put your self in a situation where you can be judged and ridiculed, it’s better that you put it out there yourself. There is no shame in my game and the cameras weren’t there to me. SL: What do you hope people will learn about you from the show? Latrice: I want people to see my “person”, I hope I can help someone by telling my story. Ultimately it’s about perseverance, overcoming adversity, and never giving up on your dreams. SL: What song would be your dream song to “lip sync for your life”? Latrice: Hmmm…I would love to do any of my girls, Gladys, Aretha, Patti, Jennifer Holliday. Any of those divas. SL: What words of wisdom do you live by? Latrice: “The only thing constant, is change”. I am always striving to be the best person that I can be, and with that comes “Change”. Changing and evolving. View this post on Instagram I’m just gonna sit this right here. @rupaulsdragrace #allstars4 @worldofwonder @vh1 A post shared by Latrice Royale (@latriceroyale) on Nov 9, 2018 at 7:39am PST SL: Could you share one of your beauty tips with us? Latrice: It is so important to blend when applying eyeshadow. LOL! SL: What one beauty item can you not live without? Latrice: I can NOT live without my BODY! (hip pads) SL: What are you hoping to gain from your experience on the show? Latrice: I honestly pray that this experience will open other doors to further my career in the direction I want it to go. SL: Any upcoming news, future projects or events you’d like to share with us? Latrice: I am planning on going into the studio to record some club tracks, so hopefully by spring I will have my single out. SL: How can your fans best stay in touch with you? Latrice: Oh baby! You can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or on my website www.latriceroyale.com. And, if you’re in South Beach, I work at the Palace every Friday. Shows begin at 6 pm, and I’m also at Drag Race Mondays, also at the Palace from 8pm-10pm! This article was originally published on February 27, 2012. Latrice will be one of the returning queens on RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars 4 which premieres Friday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. ET on VH1. Here Are The 35 Questions Taylor Swift"s Potential Jurors Had To Answer In Court

Was there an assault or not? This is the question at the center of Taylor Swift's trial. Back in 2015, radio host David Mueller sued the singer claiming he lost his job when, he says, her security team wrongfully accused him of groping her at a 2013 meet-and-greet backstage at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Back in 2015, radio host David Mueller sued the singer claiming he lost his job when, he says, her security team wrongfully accused him of groping her at a 2013 meet-and-greet backstage at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Related: Taylor & Joe Alwyn Hide From The Paparazzi! A month later, the Love Story musician countersued, claiming he "intentionally reached under her skirt, and groped with his hand an intimate part of her body in an inappropriate manner, against her will, and without her permission." Fast forward to Monday, jury selection for the trial began where all parties including Swift -- dressed in a white dress and black jacket -- were in attendance. According to the Associated Press, the DJ had his "back turned to Swift, who sat at a nearby table with her mother, Andrea Swift, and their attorney." Awk-warrrrrrrrd. A total of eight jurors will be selected from a pool of 60, and each were asked 35 questions, focusing on whether they are fans of Swift and whether they saw the photo of Mueller and the now-27-year-old. Each side believes the snap will determine if an inappropriate touch occurred. See the 35 questions (below): 1. Where do you currently live (what city or town)? 2. What is your gender? 3. Martínez Deborah Hansen Mary George Cassandra Hill Nathan Foster Welp. We definitely wouldn't have been picked! As for how this will all end? Well, David is seeking $3 million while the songwriter wants $1 million, so the stakes aren't low. Stay tuned... [Image via FayesVision/WENN.].....»»

Val Kilmer Stirs Controversy With "Angry" Open Letter At Anthony Bourdain"s "Selfishness"

There have been a lot of reactions to Anthony Bourdain's sudden passing. None, however, have been as angry — or attracted as much controversy — as that of Val Kilmer. The Top Gun star wrote an open letter about how suicide was "selfish" — and that he and others who knew him were "selfishly angry" at the [...] There have been a lot of reactions to Anthony Bourdain's sudden passing. None, however, have been as angry -- or attracted as much controversy -- as that of Val Kilmer. The Top Gun star wrote an open letter about how suicide was "selfish" -- and that he and others who knew him were "selfishly angry" at the late chef for leaving them. Related: Bourdain's Best Friend Who Found Him Dead Speaks Out He ponders many things aloud in the lengthy post, including whether Anthony "cheated on his girl" or whether he would have chosen suicide if he'd faced the hardship of throat cancer as Kilmer had. You can read the entire thing and a few offended responses (below): "Oh the darkness. Oh the dark thick pain of loss. The selfishness. How many moments away were you from feeling the love that was universal. From every corner of the world you were loved. So selfish. You've given us cause to be so angry. A spiritual guide once told me suicide is the most selfish act a human can execute and I was confused but she explained there's just no mental place further away from humanity and purpose than the hypnotized numbness that creates the false picture of despair, that forces the victim, unaware, to believe, life's legacy is over. That there is no more service. No more task. No more love left to give to another to to be given. Nothing to heal. On a cloudy day that is so cloudy it's one large mask of grey, does it mean there are no more clouds or parting of clouds, ever? Or that the burning life giving sun is not on its way or that it is already there is ones powers of imagination and perception will only open like with the ease of a child's mind, open to see and feel the peace and reassurance if the heat and light that buried and the light that annihilates the shadows that frighten, that may have even been until moments ago absolute proof that there were no there are no monsters in the room. So what? I hear you took your life in paris. What hotel? Did you relapse? Did you just get home from the best meal of your life? Did you cheat on your girl. Those of us that knew you are shocked and angry and angry and angry selfishly angry, for what you just did to us. Millions I should think. At least a million people like me who imagine they know you. Some imagine they know you even well. But you heard that phone ringing, you felt it buzzing in your coat or pants pocket, vibrating a million times, but you didn't answer it. You let it ring out. Did you bleed out? Did you suffocate? Did you jump. No you didn't jump. Is it important we know how you did it? No. But that you did it. One of the tentative titles of my new studio is Bourdains. Because you've come to realize and exemplify a steady however dim hope, that history is bending towards justice. Would you have taken your life two years ago when like me you were unable to take in food and move it with your tongue over your taste buds because your tongue was too swollen? Is too swollen. I think and dream and plan on eating and tasting and enjoying every meal I've ever enjoyed and every meal I've learned to enjoy in my imagination, Altho I've never met a meal I didn't like in the last 40 years except anything with too much cilantro. Was that it? You woke up and realized you were no longer hungry. And that even with a young daughter at home you would never be hungry enough again to want to take in breath. Was your father's hate so still so present as to cloud over every last sunny moment of every single damn day Anthony. Oh darkness. My prayer before the light breaks this morning of June 8th, is that it doesn't ever again fool another warrior like you, who chased the hot slice of momentary satisfaction around the world 15 times, but found no reason for 16. Anthony Bourdain killed himself. At least you had that beer with Obama on a busy street in Vietnam, in a plastic seat, with your favorite type of meal, spicy noodles and goop, and he gave you hope, I saw it in your eyes when you asked him, as if you were 12, to your father, "Are we going to be all right?" And Obama reminded you and us all that history is not written in a straight line. But yet it is written. And it bends towards justice. You found and showed us pockets of freedom from individuals around the world, from your pirate ship of tv and with a crew of brilliant writers producers camera and sound people, assistants, executives and lawyers who saw you clearly and loved you dearly, and went the extra mile on paper, to enable you to walk there, in the rain, before daylight, and waiting for the sun, reflect quietly on the pageantry, about to unfold. You could have and should have given it one more shot. Sometimes we must live in service to another's life and live with no hope of equality. Life isn't fair that way. Who says you had a right to take away all this love from us so soon? Oh the darkness. The darkness on the edge of town. "There's a darkness in the edge of town..." You left too soon my friend. I fell asleep to watching you enjoy Uruguay last night. It was a rerun but I always find something I didn't see before... you left too soon. And I'm going to prove it..." While some commenters told Kilmer they felt the same way, others were appalled at what they saw as badmouthing the deceased and misunderstanding mental illness. They wrote: - "Done with following you. This is very disappointing to see such hateful words. Mental ILLNESS is just that...an illness. These types of opinions and words would never be spoken when you had cancer. - "Wow just wow it's attitudes like this that make having this invisible illness deadly! Selfish you have no clue what it's like then to have this illness and be in a place so dark and desperate that you feel the world would be better off without you in it! I regret going to your art show and wish you could refund my purchase as im disgusted by every word here!" - "Suicide has nothing to do with selfishness. Your "spiritual guide" was wrong and didn't know what she was talking about. Take it from someone who knows; people who are in that dark place more often than not believe they're doing the world a favor by removing themselves from it. Nothing else makes sense but to end life. Stop adding to the stigma, please. You never know what is happening in someone else's mind." Kilmer has responded to a few comments, defending his statement: "I'm angry because I love him and what he stood for." See the ongoing conversation: We want to hear from you, Perezcious readers -- tell us what you think about Kilmer's letter in the comments (below)! [Image via Facebook.].....»»

For her new Elle cover story, Emma Stone got to be interviewed by her BFF Jennifer Lawrence -- unfortunately, that was something of a double-edged sword! Video: Emma And Jonah Hill Reunite In Netflix's Maniac See, your friends know things about you no one else does -- meaning they know right where to dig... Ch-ch-check out J.Law grilling her pal Emily about turning 30, choosing her family, and being "sensitive on a level that is problematic" (below): On Oversensitivity JL: When you act, do you use your imagination? Do you use wounds from the past? ES: That's a good question! JL: I know; I'm a great interviewer. ES: Well, I tend to use a lot of stuff that has actually happened in my life, and I pull from feelings that came with certain experiences. Then it at least feels productive to have all these feelings [laughs], which is why I started acting in general. And I guess I use my imagination to an extent. JL: So you can make yourself cry purely just from imagining something horrible? You're that sensitive? ES: Jen. JL: I know you, but I have to ask for the people who don't know you. Emily, are you sensitive? ES: I am sensitive on a level that is problematic. JL: Emily blushes watching TV. She blushes for someone on TV. ES: [Laughs] I mean, I've talked to my therapist about it before, and she's like, Thank God you found [acting]. JL: An outlet. ES: I started acting in youth theater when I was 11. But it's weird when it becomes your job. And then there are other parts of it, like sitting here with the tape recorder in between us, that aren't things that you think about when you're a kid and it's just like, 'This is a safe, great place to feel a lot.' On Turning 30 ES: Honestly, turning 30—because I'm turning 30 in a couple of months—I know people talk about, like, turning 30 and the experience of that. JL: Thirty, flirty, and thriving! ES: [Laughs] My twenties were a really interesting time, and there's been a lot that has happened in these past 10 years, both positive and not as positive. It's weird how much turning 30 crystallizes your life. Instead of just living the dreams that I had in my youth and getting to do the job that I love to do and making friends and going through all of that, it's like, Now what do I actively want as an adult? On Anxiety JL: What do you think caused your anxiety? Do you think you were born like that, or do you think something happened that made you extremely sensitive, or do you think that you're naturally pathetic? ES: I think that it's a combination of all of it. JL: Do you remember a time when you felt more anxious than you ever had? ES: Yeah, when I was seven. That's when I started having panic attacks, which I've talked about pretty extensively. I think your wiring is just kind of what you are. My mom always says that I was born with my nerves outside of my body. But I'm lucky for the anxiety, because it also makes me high-energy. On Friendship JL: Who's your favorite friend? ES: I really like [Lawrence's dog] Pippi. JL: She has a personality! ES: I love Pippi's mom. JL: So are friends important to you? And why? ES: I think friendship is pretty much everything. Here's another turning-30 thing I've realized: You pick your family. You realize that your friendships, the people who go with you into these next phases of your life— you're choosing your family. JL: And what's most important to you in friendship? ES: Loyalty is enormous. JL: Oh, I love that you pointed at me. ES: You've been one of my most loyal friends for years. And I think knowing that you can laugh together and that not everything has to be such a big deal. On Having Kids JL: Would you be a mother? She's going to be the best mom; she's so nurturing. ES: That's how you are! I think your maternal instinct is very strong and always has been. JL: Thank you, honey. ES: My perspective about kids has changed as I've gotten older. I never babysat or anything. As a teenager, I was like, I'm never getting married, I'm never having kids. And then I got older and I was like, I really want to get married, I really want to have kids. JL: When I was a teenager, every boyfriend I had I was like, I guess this is the one! I was that girl. [Laughs] Wouldn't it be great if we could have a baby? ES: Aw, a whole village. JL: Science. ES: It's the turning-30 thing where you're like, I'm not that young. I'm young, but I'm not that young. Henry told JJ, “[Director Jon Chu] reached out and it was two questions. He said, ‘Will you read for me?’ I was like, ‘Of course!’ An opportunity like that doesn’t come around very often. And so I taped twice and then they flew me over for a chemistry read with Constance [Wu], I came home, I was on my honeymoon in South Africa where they’re like, ‘We gotta pull you because Warner Bros. wants to–’ They had three people in mind. I was one of them, they had a screen test for all three of us, and then it took them three weeks of decision making to finally come up with an answer.” Click inside to read the full, exclusive interview with Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding… Henry Golding – Full Exclusive Interview JJ: Have you eaten at Din Tai Fung before? HENRY: I come religiously. Because we live in Singapore, around the corner of my house, I can walk to one in less than seven minutes. So me and my wife go a lot actually! JJ: Since you are part Asian, your taste buds must be nuanced. Do you favor one type of Asian Cuisine over another? HENRY: Thai food has been a big, consistent cuisine that we veer toward, then Chinese cuisine but Malaysian cuisine, where I’m from, is so mixed in cultures. There’s the Chinese, Indian, Malay, so it kind of encompasses all sorts of flavors [and] herbs. Singaporean and Malaysian food are some of the best foods in the world. JJ: What’s your favorite Asian food? Non Asian food? HENRY: A proper hearty pad thai. Like, big prawns or nice chunks of meat in there. And nothing beats steak and kidney pie with mashed potatoes and gravy. It’s like my favorite comfort food. JJ: Have you ever cooked pad thai yourself? HENRY: (laughs) We have attempted in the past, and it’s the fact that you have to use a lot of sugar. There’s a tremendous amount of sugar in Asian food and usually when you’re cooking at home, you try to cut down on the salt and sugar intake, so it never tastes the same. We even get tamarind paste to make sure the fish sauce is right, but if you don’t use enough sugar, it just doesn’t have the same taste. (laughs) JJ: So is there a not a healthy version of pad thai that’s really good? HENRY: Not that I’ve come across. I’ve had plenty of disappointing pad thais! JJ: What was it like growing up in Malaysia? HENRY: I was born in Sarawak in Eastern Malaysia, so I’m from a tribal culture where my family would go into the jungle and harvest from the jungle. Or we would have rice fields. Or, one of the big things they grow is pepper and they would pick the pepper berries and dry them and sell them. It was always about running around in the jungle, chasing chickens, my brother bullying me, and finding things to entertain ourselves through the summers. JJ: Did you feel fully Malaysian even though you were half? Were you treated any differently? HENRY: As a kid, you don’t know what race was but I always knew my dad was obviously a white guy. It was only until I moved as a kid to England when I was about 9 or 10-years-old. There was obviously, back in those days, not a lot of immigration so racism was prevalent, especially in outer London. I was called everything under the sun from Ching to Packie to everything! Because kids just don’t understand, especially in those days. And I was like, “Hold on…” That was when I realized I was different, and I was like, “I’m seen as Asian in the UK, but I’m seen as a foreigner back in Malaysia. What are my ancestral roots?” and I chose to be proud of both! But up until now I’ve represented more with my Asian side. I’ve lived in Asia for the past eleven years now. When everybody was like, “That guy’s not Asian, like, he’s half Asian!”, thanks to question of ,“What is the litmus test of being able to claim that you’re Asian or being proud of your ancestry?” Is it the fact that you’re full-blooded but you’ve never been to Asia? Does that discount you as not being Asian enough? Or is it that you’re half-blooded but you’ve grown up in Asia, but genetically you’re not categorized as Asian? So there were so many questions and there’s never a right answer. It’s what you feel as a person, and what you identify with is the most important thing. What you take pride with in and the cultures that you embrace, that’s totally up to you. JJ: You’ve lived in Malaysia and New York. Would you ever live in L.A.? HENRY: Yeah! My wife and I have been thinking about moving here. Singapore at the moment is wonderful, we love it. This would bring me closer to work. Might be a bad thing, might be a good thing. But California seems to have brilliant weather. I’ve been sweating my balls off for the past ten years (laughs) in humidity which is ridiculous. So it would be nice to have this beautiful weather and go outside and be able to wear a jacket, and obviously, there’s a lot of freedom over here. JJ: Are there any Malaysian traditions that you still practice today? HENRY: Every year there’s a festival. It’s mainly for Sarawak, where I’m from, that the tribes celebrate the Gawai which is the end of rice harvest. So once everybody’s done with the rices to ripen, they thrash the rice, pick it up, and then they celebrate for a new year. And that’s how they would distinguish a new year–the harvest of rice was finished. The celebration was to clear the air, clear the spirits, a lot of drinking involved, a lot of merry-making and singing, and it’s still a practice today. They defined it around the end of May/beginning of June. JJ: They always say that birds sort of flock together. Do HAPA people attract other HAPA people? HENRY: I personally have more friends from all the different races, and so it’s not true. My wife’s half as well and so I can’t really get away from that (laughs). She’s Italian-Taiwanese. But I don’t have outrageous amounts of HAPA friends, and even the word HAPA was new to me. Like, we call it the Eur-Asian, but it’s like a Hawaiian word for half and half, well, half-race. JJ: Crazy Rich Asians. Did you get to read the book before you started? Have you been a fan before? HENRY: Mm! So I read the book just before [director Jon Chu] got in contact with me. JJ: How did you first hear about CRA? HENRY: I think it was back in 2013 or something ridiculous when Warner Bros. bought the rights to it and there was a big buzz in the Asian community, especially in Singapore and Asia because it’s about a Singaporean story. A lot of actors and good friends were like, “They’re going to make a massive film out of it! It’s going to be set in Singapore. Kevin Kwan wrote it.” I heard about it and was like, “Aw man, this is amazing!” but I was a presenter at the time so I was like, “Someone’s going to have a fantastic f–king time!” I didn’t even think about it to be me. And then, it wasn’t until the 11th hour that they had to choose the actor to be Nick Young, and [director Jon Chu] had seen literally every male Asian actor. He has this database which is ridiculous–everybody on tape–because everybody submitted for it! It was the catch of the century pretty much, especially for Asians, and my name got passed to him right at the last minute because he still didn’t believe that he had found someone who could represent this character thoughtfully and with realness. He reached out and it was two questions. He said, “Will you read for me?” I was like, “Of course!” An opportunity like that doesn’t come around very often. And so I taped twice and then they flew me over for a chemistry read with Constance (Wu), I came home, I was on my honeymoon in South Africa where they’re like, “We gotta pull you because Warner Bros. wants to–” They had three people in mind. I was one of them, they had a screen test for all three of us, and then it took them three weeks of decision making to finally come up with an answer. JJ: Was there a scene that made you really nervous or really excited to shoot? HENRY: Everything with Michelle [Yeoh] was so exciting. Michelle is like the ultimate hero of everybody growing up, and she’s a fellow Malaysian as well, so it was that much more meaningful. We shared such beautiful and heartfelt scenes together. It really funnels her true drive for why she’s being so mean in the story. So, Michelle. Phenomenal. JJ: Are you friends with any real life crazy rich Asians? HENRY: To be honest, it’s a small community in Singapore and I don’t personally have close friends who are–I know of and are acquaintances with people from rich families. So I don’t have friends who whisk me off on private jets pretty much. I wish sometimes I did, but it’s sadly not the case. JJ: What’s something most people don’t know about Awkwafina? Have you seen her in Ocean’s 8 yet? HENRY: She is (laughs) everything you see on her Instagram – it’s exactly how she is in real life. How she commentates her stories is the exact thought process behind her every day. She’s one of the most entertaining human beings I’ve ever met, and one with such a big heart. I couldn’t speak anymore highly about her. She is blowing up right now! JJ: Do you have a favorite memory of her on set? HENRY: I came out first with Constance Wu for pre-production and slowly other people trickled in. The first to arrive was Nora! And I was like, “Oh you know, I’m going to welcome her. I’m sure she’s like out of place and I know the area really well since I used to live here. So I find out her room and knock on the door. I was like, “Hey! I’m Henry, I’m working on Crazy Rich Asians as well!” and she’s like, “Damn! They got some handsome assistant directors on this show!” (laughs). And I was like, “Oh, no… I’m playing Nick!” And she’s just like “Ohhhh”. (laughs) I’ll never forget that! JJ: Do you have any favorite Asian or Asian American actors and singers? HENRY: John Cho. Back in the day, Jason Scott Lee was the first real Hollywood leading man. He was the lead in so many big Hollywood movies–Enter The Dragon. But John Poseman breaking the boundaries when it comes to casting and acting like in this brilliant film coming out, Searching. And of course, Michelle [Yeoh], man. She’s had such an illustrious career but stayed so grounded and so humble and hardworking throughout the entire period. JJ: Have you always dreamed of becoming an actor? How did you get into presenting? HENRY: Mhm! I always knew that I would love to get into acting at some point. It was always in the back of my head, but I knew it would be at the right mental state or readiness I wanted to have lived and travelled and experienced as much as possible. And then when I was ready mentally I would get into it. And actually 3-4 years ago, I did a little semester and it was like a Meisner technique sort of a crash course. And I was like, “Wow, this year I’m going to dedicate the rest of this year doing some of my shorts and doing some films and stuff, and then I got offered a BBC gig called The Travel Show and I was like, “Well, it looks like fate has some other plans for me.” BBC is like the pinnacle of all journalism, so I was just like, “I’ve got to do this!” JJ: What was your first presenting/hosting gig? HENRY: I moved in 2008 to Malaysia. A show called The Quickie was a live magazine mish-mash of new music, what’s going on in the week, but it was twenty minutes every single night, live. Then I was on ESPN for Football Journalism which is a soccer show which highlighted the week’s football. And then, I started in travel shows with poor casting in Malaysia. I did like four or five seasons of travel shows; New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, and around Europe. And then, the BBC stuff happened and that was global, and then, Discovery Channel Asia. So I’ve had, like, a good extensive 7-8 years of hosting stuff. JJ: Did you acting agents and managers before Crazy Rich Asians or did you get signed afterwards? HENRY: I got signed afterward, yeah. Right now, especially with open ethnicity being discussed, there’s more chances and that they’re realizing now that people have stories to tell, and that’s what’s more important than being an outrageously handsome guy or the blond haired, blue eyes. That’s not what’s pulling in tickets anymore, it’s about having that je ne sais quoi–that aura that gravitas, and people are finding that elsewhere. Look at Timothee Chamelet–he’s phenomenal! But he’s not the traditionally handsome, tall beefcake kind of dude. But f–k can he act, you know? Stuff like that, I love. JJ: What would you say to an aspiring Asian-American actor or actress who might want to get into the business? HENRY: Put yourself out there. Prepare yourself by being proactive. There’s no use waiting for a role to come when you create a role. Create the stories with your friends. Start, write a script. Don’t wait. That’s what I’ve learned is that you cannot wait on your ass for something to be handed to you. You gotta work for it. You gotta put the idea in front of someone, and for them to say, “Oh s–t, actually this could work!” You never know. So just stay sharp and just be prepared for when it does break. And when it comes, work hard. Opportunities don’t come fast and quick. JJ: Your wife is a presenter as well. Is she on the same track as you, presenting until she is ready to become an actor? Do you think she’ll make a transition to acting as well? HENRY: She’s very happy not being an actor. She did a little bit of acting in Singapore–she didn’t like it. So she’s probably happy for me to do that (laughs)......»»

An Early Halloween Treat – Socialite Life Chats With Elvira!

Who better than to kick off your Halloween celebration than the Mistress of Dark herself, the one and only Elvira! Actress and comedienne Cassandra Peterson, the woman behind the bewitching black dress and the scary, sexy and sassy attitude, took some time to chat with us about how she landed the role that made her a household name, fills us in on her latest projects and dishes about her experiences on RuPaul’s Drag Race and her affinity for drag queens. And, since Halloween’s right around the corner, she lets us in on her favorite candy treat! We promise our interview won’t give you unpleasant dreams! Socialite Life: First off, I have to ask. Is there a painting of you aging in an attic somewhere? Elvira: (Laughs) No, but I should get one! No there isn’t, I don’t know what it is! My outfit is very forgiving…sort of! (Laughs) SL: I’ve seen photos of you as your alter ego, Cassandra, and you still look fantastic. Elvira: Thank you. You know, I don’t know what that is – I have no idea! SL: You’ve become sort of synonymous with Halloween, what have you been up to lately? Elvira: Well, I’ve been working on a bunch of projects. I got involved with a huge convention – it’s going to be kind of the new pop culture convention – it’s probably going to end up being one of the biggest in the world. It’s called Comikaze – it’s called Stan Lee’s Comikaze now – and I’m part owner of that. I’m also working on an independent horror film festival that I just got done with called Elvira’s Horror Hunt. I’m also out there pitching television shows – I have one that’s making the rounds right now and pitching another film. During Halloween, I make appearances all over the country and I head up to Seattle and then Portland. I’m going to be going to Australia soon and then England, so it’s pretty busy right around now. That’s a long answer, huh? SL: I saw that you’ve even got your own wine now. How did that come about? Elvira: Well, I do a lot of merchandising. Over the years, I’ve had my own beer, called Elvira’s Night Brew, and I had my own perfume and all kinds of things. Now I’ve got an Elvira wine (Elvira’s Macabrenet) and an Elvira soda pop – I’m moving into the beverage world! SL: That’s great! So, how does it feel to have so many people dress up like you for Halloween? Elvira: You always have a good time when you’re dressed as Elvira, I gotta say! It feels fantastic! I mean, I love it, it’s very flattering…well, of course it depends on the person who’s doing it. I see a lot of truck driver types doing it and..yeah, not so flattering! But I’m always happy when people dress up as me because I know they’re buying my costume! (You can too, on Elvira’s website!) My favorite things to see, which I consider the sincerest form of flattery, is people tattooing Elvira on themselves. At first, I was kind of shocked, but now I see people by the hundreds literally with Elvira tattoos. That really is the sincerest form of flattery in my book. SL: Do you get people who ask for your autograph on their body and then they get that inked? Elvira: Yeah, a lot of them. I actually got one this morning, who a really fabulous Elvira tattoo on the whole entire side of his body and I signed it and he sent me the pictures of him getting my signature tattooed in across it. SL: Since I’ve been such a fan or yours, I’ve always wanted to know more about how you got started. I know you were a member of The Groundlings. How did improv help you in your career and with the development of characters like Elvira? Elvira: The improv – learning to improvise is absolutely invaluable. I think in any career, especially, of course, if you’re going to be in the limelight and be an actress, celebrity, whatever – it’s invaluable. Even if you’re a person who has to speak in front of people – I actually talked my doctor and my lawyer into taking classes with The Groundlings years ago. (Laughs) They both said, “It was the best thing I ever did!” I did not have the character (of Elvira) developed in The Groundlings but I did have a character that the director of the local television show where I ended up – KHJ – saw me and really liked this character I was doing, which was just sort of a goofy Valley Girl actress and he encouraged me to do that character for the audition – and I did – and I got the audition that way. I also improvised – they gave me a really bad script and I kind of just took off in a different direction because I didn’t see how you could be good reading a really crappy script. So I just went off and improvised and that’s definitely how I got the part. And, after that, I had to come up with the look – and a friend of mine who was an artist drew a picture of what he thought I should look like…so I certainly wouldn’t be doing Elvira now if it wasn’t for The Groundlings and my improvisational background. SL: Did you work with John Paragon (best known as Jambi from Pee Wee’s Playhouse) when you were with (legendary LA-based improv group) The Groundlings? Elvira: When I was in the Groundlings, Phil Hartman, John Paragon and Paul Reubens (a/k/a Pee Wee Herman) were the guys I looked up to. They were my heroes. I worshiped them and became, I feel, like family with all of them. In fact, we spent every Christmas and Thanksgiving and New Year’s together for 20 years. So, John Paragon became my writing partner and he was in Groundlings before I got in there and later, on Movie Macabre, he became my writing partner. We wrote everything together. We wrote the Elvira, Mistress of the Dark movie. we wrote a pilot for CBS called The Elvira Show and we wrote my second movie, Elvira’s Haunted Hills, together. After 21 years, we dissolved our working relationship, but we’re still great friends. And Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman helped me out immensely too. They made all kinds of appearances on my TV show and helped me write things – and Paul actually sang back-up on one of my albums. I remember we recorded it standing in my bathtub because the sound in there was awesome. It was called “Elvira and the Vitones” – it was John Paragon and Paul Reubens. It was really a family. SL: I’ve love Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and I’ve seen it at least a hundred times – and I’m definitely not the only one. Are you surprised that the movie is still a beloved cult classic? Elvira: Thank you! Yeah, I’m happy that it still holds up. It’s funny how many movies I see that I used to worship and then I go to see them again and show my daughter and I watch them and think, Oh my God! What was I seeing in that movie? But I’m happy to say that I think the Elvira movie really does hold up and is as good today as it was when it came out. I’m very proud of that movie. I think it…it reminds me of The Wizard of Oz or something! (Laughs) It’s one of those classics, but a little sick and twisted. SL: One of our favorite scenes in the movie is at the end when you show off your tassel twirling talents! Elvira: Yeah, people didn’t realize I was so talented until they saw that. Tassel twirling is something I learned when I was 14 years old. It’s so bizarre – when other kids were practicing piano, I was standing in front of the mirror learning how to twirl tassels on my boobs! It came in very handy when I was a go-go dancer and later a showgirl. It also happened to come in handy when I was making the movie. I was like. “Hey! I have this special talent, let’s use it!” And so many people ask if I have little motors in there or if it was special effects and I’m like no! It’s just me doing my thing! SL: I’m so jealous that you’ve been a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race – what was that experience like for you? Elvira: Oh, God! It was fantastic. I love the show first of all. I love RuPaul and I’ve known him for a long, long time, so getting the chance to be a judge on there was one of my dreams and I had a blast! I’m actually judging again on that show that’s coming up soon, RuPaul’s All-Stars Drag Race. I tell you, I could work on that show every week. I loved it. I was sort of raised by wild drag queens and it just feels like home to me over there! (Laughs) I sort of consider myself a drag queen. I really feel like a female drag queen. SL: Was that what attracted you to the show? Elvira: Well, I mean, honestly, from the time I was 14, drag queens taught me everything I know. They taught me how to dress and walk and put my makeup on and do my hair and I just hung out with not just drag queens but gay men my whole life and I really was so influenced by them – and I ended up being Elvira. I think it’s really cool now that drag queens are dressing up as Elvira. I mean, oh my God, it’s coming full circle! SL: I remember you had two drag queens on your reality show, The Search for the Next Elvira. Elvira: Yes. Christian Greenia and Patterson (Lundquist) – and Christian works with me – he was the “Manvira” who was super catty (laughs). He is one of the best Elvira drag queens – I think he is the best that there is because not only can he make himself look better than me – which is really sad, when a man can look better than you – but he knows every nuance, every way I move, every facial expression and every line from everything I’ve ever done. When I can’t remember something, I call him and he can reel off whole scenes from my movies. SL: You scared a lot of people when the reality show was launched. Do you have any plans to retire Elvira? Elvira: No, I don’t really and that’s the funny thing about that show. It really wasn’t meant to replace me, it was meant to have additional Elviras that I could send out to shopping malls across the country and do kind of the lower-scale Elvira appearances but the name The Search for More Elviras didn’t really cut it, so the network insisted on The Search for the Next Elvira which was a little bit catchier but confusing to people. But no, I always have plans to retire, but then I never do! I was going to retire every milestone, every birthday and I just keep going. I don’t now how long it’s going to last – it’s scaring me! But you know, I do try to stay in shape and look good, so that’s kind of a side benefit. I have a feeling that if I quit being Elvira, the next time you’d see me, I’d weigh 300 pounds! (Laughs) SL: Do you have any beauty tips you can share – I’d love to know how you stay looking so great! Elvira: Well, you know, I do live a pretty healthy lifestyle. I was a vegetarian for 13 years, but unfortunately, I kind of fell off the wagon. I eat a mostly vegetarian diet and I do work out 5-7 days a week. I walk, I spin and I do yoga. I stay pretty active. I think that and the mostly vegetarian diet is pretty much what keeps me going. That and a little vodka! (Laughs) SL: You’ve pretty much done everything. Is there something you haven’t done yet that you still want to do? Elvira: Hmmm…my major thing that I want to do is an animated feature of Elvira and move Elvira into being an animated character – so I don’t have to play her anymore! And, although he doesn’t know it yet, Tim Burton’s going to be doing the film! (Laughs) He’ll be surprised when he finds out! SL: Elvira and Tim Burton would be a match made in heaven! Elvira: That would be awesome, wouldn’t it? I actually worked with him when I did a little part in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. I almost hired him as the director for Mistress of the Dark and Pee Wee hired him out from under me – a little rivalry going there – so the last time I saw him was, God, between 25 and 30 years ago. I just got to see him the other night (at the Frankenweenie premiere) and catch up and that was really cool – and Frankenweenie was awesome! It’s really not a kid’s movie. It’s my favorite thing he’s done since Edward Scissorhands, it’s kind of like a beautiful fairy tale. SL: I saw you on the VH-1 documentary about rock groupies and learned some things I never knew about you. You’ve had such an extensive career and you’ve pretty much done it all. Would you ever consider writing your memoirs? Elvira: Yes. (Laughs) You know, I have been trying to do that for so many years. It’s insane. I always think I’m going to get this chunk of time to do it and then I never do. I did start out writing it the first of the year, and that lasted a couple of months and then I went astray on other projects. That is something I really want to do but I don’t feel like I have enough time to do it. I guess you just have to make time. When you’re writing, you just have to sit down and write. SL: Do you have a special message for your fans? Elvira: Go to Elvira.com and tweet me at @TheRealElvira. I want everybody to have a safe, insane Halloween, as usual! She spoke to the tabloid in 2011, before anyone cared and long before reportedly being paid $130K by Trump's crooked lawyer to keep her mouth shut. Related: Trump Compared Stormy To His Daughter... In the full account, the adult film actress says she can "definitely describe his junk perfectly" and drops details like names of others who were around and some cray shit you just could NOT make up! See the craziest tidbits from the interview (below)! Trump Thinks His Hair Gives Him Power Stormy: We were talking about all sorts of things. I remember he asked me like, "I gotta ask you a question and I don't want to get you offended" and I was like, "Trust me, you can't." I was expecting some sort of vulgar question and it wasn't; it was something about how much money I make off the royalties of something. And then I remember saying to him, "Ok well I have a question for you and it IS offensive." And I asked him about his hair. I was like, "Dude, what's up with that?" and he laughed and he said, "You know, everybody wants to give me a makeover and I've been offered all this money and all these free treatments." And I was like, "What is the deal? Don't you want to upgrade that? Come on, man." He said that he thought that if he cut his hair or changed it, that he would lose his power and his wealth. And I laughed hysterically at him. IT: What did he say? Stormy: He took it pretty well. He was like, "Yeah, yeah, my wife even did my son's hair like that, as a joke." I was like, "Yes, speaking of your wife…" IT: Did he mention her at all? Stormy: I mentioned her. I was like, "Yeah, what about your wife?" He goes, "Oh, don't worry about her." Quickly, quickly changed the subject. The Sex Was Boring But Not Terrible IT: Was the sex romantic? Stormy: It was textbook generic. It wasn't like, "Oh my God, I love you." He wasn't like Fabio or anything. He wasn't trying to have, like, porn sex. IT: Did he say anything to you during? Stormy: Nothing freaky. Like, "Oh yeah, that feels good. That's amazing." You know. It was one position, what you would expect someone his age to do. It wasn't bad. Don't get me wrong. Stormy: So anyway, the sex was nothing crazy. He wasn't like, chain me to the bed or anything. It was one position. I can definitely describe his junk perfectly, if I ever have to. He definitely seemed smitten after that. He was like, "I wanna see you again, when can I see you again?" Trump Apparently Didn't Use Protection While Cheating On His Wife... Ew IT: Did you use protection? Stormy: No. IT: Was that a conversation or was it kind of in the moment? Stormy: It was kind of in the moment. And I was really kind of upset about it because I am so, like, careful. The company I work for is condom-only. But I remember for a fact that we didn't because I'm allergic to latex. And I didn't go up there with condoms on me. I know that for a fact because 99% of men don't carry non-latex condoms on them, so I usually always have one in my backpack but I thought I was going to dinner, so I only had a tiny little cocktail purse. NFL Star Ben Roethlisberger Can Corroborate Part Of This Story Stormy: I ended up leaving and the next night I saw him again at a party. It was in the downstairs of the hotel I was in and he was hanging out with Ben Roethlisberger. When I got there, he was already with him. He had Keith, his bodyguard, call me and ask me if I was coming. When I got there, I called Keith and he told me where he was sitting and he brought me over. And he was hanging out with Ben for a long time. A couple other people around, nobody famous. Mostly people trying to hang on to them. Ben had just won the Super Bowl that year. Donald excused himself. He had to leave, I don't remember why, and he made Ben promise to take care of me. I stayed another 15-20 minutes and Ben Roethlisberger actually walked me up to my room that night because Donald told him to. Yeah, he walked me all the way to my hotel room. Trump Called Her A Lot -- And He Called Her "Honeybunch" Stormy: He always called me from a blocked number. He gave me — of course I had Keith, his bodyguard's number — he gave me his secretary's number, Rhona, which is his direct office line. Note: This checks out. Keith Schiller was Trump's bodyguard turned Oval Office Operations manager, and Rhona Graff was Trump's longtime secretary, and is still described as a sort of backdoor conduit for people who want to get in touch with the President. Stormy: Anytime I needed to get ahold of him, he always took my call or called me back within 10 minutes if he was on another call or wasn't there. I think she would call him and he would call me back from his cell if he wasn't in his office. The number was always blocked. He called me about every 10 days. He always called me "honeybunch." He's like, "How's it going, honeybunch?" He always started the conversation off, I think it was always his excuse to call, "I just read about you in such and such or there's a quote about you in magazine, I turned on my channel in my hotel room and guess whose face popped up?" Just like anytime he saw or read about me somewhere. I was super busy at the time. I've taken a year off because I had a baby, but I was everywhere at the time. That's when I did and was doing red carpets so there was pictures of me like all the time. That was always sort of his excuse to call: "Hey, did you know that you were on such and such? We need to get together to talk about your thing." Stormy Was Cheating Too Stormy: Anytime I called, he would call — it was funny if like my assistant or my boyfriend, who is now my ex-husband, he was my boyfriend at the time, was with me, I would always have him on speakerphone. I mean, it's Donald Trump. IT: Were you with your boyfriend when you slept with Donald Trump? Stormy: Yeah. IT: Did he know about the situation? Stormy: He didn't know that detail but he knew everything else. He called me all the time. Trump Has A Shark Phobia Stormy (describing her last encounter with Trump in Beverly Hills): We had dinner once again in his room. I had swordfish that time. Once again, no alcohol. The strangest thing about that night — this was the best thing ever. You could see the television from the little dining room table and he was watching Shark Week and he was watching a special about the U.S.S. something and it sank and it was like the worst shark attack in history. He is obsessed with sharks. Terrified of sharks. He was like, "I donate to all these charities and I would never donate to any charity that helps sharks. I hope all the sharks die." He was like riveted. He was like obsessed. It's so strange, I know. IT: So it's just you and him in the bungalow? Stormy: Yeah. But isn't that weird? So strange. So we finished dinner and we moved to the sofa so he could get a better view of Shark Week. Weirdly, that checks out too. Just check out these tweets from early July (aka, Shark Week) two years after she gave the interview: Sharks are last on my list - other than perhaps the losers and haters of the World! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 4, 2013 Sorry folks, I'm just not a fan of sharks - and don't worry, they will be around long after we are gone. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 4, 2013 The Affair Ended When Stormy Got Pregnant Stormy: Like I said, he always called from a blocked number and for the last year and a half I honestly don't know if he's called me or not because when I got pregnant with my daughter, I completely stopped taking calls that I didn't know. My fans don't know I had a baby. I left LA and lived in Vegas and basically hid out. I just really stopped taking calls from blocked numbers, numbers that I didn't know. I even stopped answering people that I did know, like other celebrities that I'm friends with that would just want to hang out or go out in Hollywood. Trump Lied To Stormy About Getting Her On Celebrity Apprentice The biggest thread throughout, and the subject Stormy says Trump talked to her about the most, was the lie that he would "100%" get her on Celebrity Apprentice: Stormy: And then he goes — I might be out of order with the conversation because it was so long ago. But he was like, "You know what? You're really smart. You're not dumb." And I was like, "Thanks, d---. What does that mean?" And he goes, "You should be on." And I was like, "Really? No, I don't think so." And he just kept thinking about it, I could see his little wheels turning. He goes, "No, it would be really, really good for you. People would think you're just this idiot with blond hair and big boobs. You would be perfect for it because you're such a smart businesswoman. You write and you direct and you produce and obviously you're hot and you're beautiful." And I was like, "Well, it's never going to happen. NBC is never going to let a porn star on." And he was like, "I can make it happen." And I was like, "You can't. I dare you." I was totally egging him on. And that was kind of like the thing, he was like, "No, we have to work on this for you." And that was sort of what he tried to bait me with for an entire year. He was like, "We have to get together to talk about your appearance on." But he was serious. I think when it hit him in the moment, he was like, "Yeah, this is going to be really good." And it could have. Of course, it would have been sensational. He just kept pushing for it, pushing for it. And he was like, "Would you do it?" I was like, "You know what, I'm not going to waste my energy on thinking about it, but if you actually have the power to make it happen, then I'll do it." IT: Did he promise you that? Stormy: Yeah, absolutely. He told me that he got a wild-card choice. That he could push one person through at will. IT: And he said it was going to be you? Stormy: Absolutely. 100% he promised me. Stormy: That's when he broke the news to me that it almost went through but there's somebody that had a problem and it got vetoed and blah blah blah. I was like, "I told you, you couldn't make it happen." I was pretty annoyed. IT: How do you feel about all this — the broken promises? What's your take? Stormy: I don't really know. I don't have any animosity or whatever. IT: Do you feel like a fool for believing him about? Stormy: No. I wasn't like going around telling everybody, "Oh my God, I'm going to be on." It's not like I bought into it 100%. I was challenging him to make it happen. I figured my shot was 50-50 even though he swore up and down it was 100. It's not just him. I never really get my hopes up on big stuff like that. Stormy says she decided to speak to the press after hearing about Trump hypocritically badmouthing the adult industry: Stormy: He went on some tirade how he would never be associated with someone…blah blah blah. But clearly I do a lot more than just pose for. So that just makes me wonder if he was just flat-out lying the whole time. I didn't have any unrealistic expectations of actually being on the show; I figured my chances were 50-50, I did believe that he was shy. So now I wonder if the whole thing was just a f---ing lie. IT: Just to impress you, to try to sleep with you? Stormy: Yeah. And I guess it worked. BTW -- don't feel too bad for Stormy. According to TMZ, her affair with Trump might end up making her some more money -- at her latest dancing gig. Apparently The Trophy Club in Greenville, South Carolina is using it to advertise! We guess you can't hold strip clubs to confidentiality agreements... [Image via MySpace.].....»»
