Hong Kong Gold Medalist Claims She Was Sexually Abused By Her Coach When She Was 13 Years Old

Another athlete has accused a team official of sexual assaulting her at a frighteningly young age. Lui Lai Yiu, a gold medalist from Hong Kong, took to Facebook last week to share her own horrifying #MeToo story in hopes of breaking the taboo in Chinese culture surrounding topics related to sex. Inspired by Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney's claims of being sexually abused by her team doctor, the 23-year-old revealed that she was sexually assaulted by her then-coach 10 years ago, when she was just 13 years old. Related: Aly Raisman Was Sexually Abused By Gymnastics Team Physician Remembering the incident like it was yesterday, Lui said that her coach called her up on a Saturday and offered to give her a massage. She agreed, since "massages, from the viewpoint of an athlete, are considered absolutely ordinary." Though the two met at the sports ground, Lui recalled her coach suggesting they go to his house instead. She agreed again, because she respected him as a professional. After the massage began, however, the so-called "professional" took full advantage of the middle schooler's trust in him. Lui wrote: "We went to his house, and he pointed for me to lie on the bed. After he pressed on the back of my thighs three or four times with his hands, he said to me that it was hard to massage my legs with my jeans on and suggested I take them off. I trusted him, so I had never imagined he would do something so despicable to his own student. Next, he continued the so-called 'massage.' Finally, he took off my jeans and underwear and touched my private parts." Lui was so stunned, she didn't know how to react at the time. She didn't tell anyone about the incident except for a close friend several years later. Related: Bryan Singer Denies, Denies, Denies Sexual Assault Allegations The athlete was so conflicted, in fact, she continued to keep in touch with the coach -- even wishing him a happy birthday every year -- despite not understanding why she did it. Analyzing her actions at the time, the gold medalist mused: "Perhaps I thought I could deceive myself, tell myself that this never happened." Lui finally decided to come forward after reading about Maroney's experiences, along with learning the news about Lin Yi-han, the Taiwanese author who killed herself after claiming a former teacher sexually groomed and raped her. In response to Lui's admission, Hong Kong's chief executive Carrie Lam asked police to investigate the matter and treat it with the utmost severity. The coach has reportedly been fired. We applaud this brave young woman for coming forward, especially coming from a culture where saying #MeToo isn't exactly embraced with support and warmth -- not yet at least. Read Lui's full post (below): "#metoo I was sexually assaulted by my former coach. This summer, when I read the news about Taiwanese author Lin Yi-han, I felt the urge to share the unhappy experiences from my childhood, but I lacked the courage. A few months ago, after I saw Olympic gold medalist McKayla Maroney sharing her experiences of being sexually abused by her team doctor, the idea to share my own story resurged. It's been many years since it happened, and today I finally plucked up the courage to tell the truth for three reasons: - to call on people to pay attention to the sexual assault of children - to encourage victims to be brave and come forward to tell their stories - to show the public that topics related to sex should not be treated as awkward or embarrassing and shouldn't be something that can't be discussed publicly. I'm very thankful for McKayla Maroney. Because of her one action, I'm willing to discuss this again, to bravely face the past in the hopes of bringing a positive impact to more people. Ten years ago, when I was around 13 or 14, I met coach Y while participating in extracurricular activities at school. Coach Y put a lot of effort into training me and building my confidence. We often had afternoon tea or lunch together. You could say he was my teacher and also my friend. A year later, my sporting achievements had definitely improved, and it made me further believe that this coach could help me achieve even more. I still remember it was a Saturday around noon. I had just gotten out from cram school when I received a phone call from him. He asked me if my muscles were tense after last week's practice. He said he could help me massage and relax those muscles. Massages, from the viewpoint of an athlete, are considered absolutely ordinary. At the time, I didn't see any issues with that, and in my mind he was still a professional coach. We met at the athletic field. Then he said it was difficult to give me a massage there and suggested going to his house instead. I agreed. Again, I hadn't noticed anything wrong with that, because I was just a middle school student, and because in my eyes he was a coach I respected. We went to his house, and he pointed for me to lie on the bed. After he pressed on the back of my thighs three or four times with his hands, he said to me that it was hard to massage my legs with my jeans on and suggested I take them off. I had trusted him, so I had never imagined he would do something so despicable to his own student. Next, he continued the so-called "massage". Finally, he took off my jeans and underwear and touched my private parts. Even as he took off my underwear, I couldn't react. And so that was what happened. About two years ago, I told this to a very good friend of mine. And to this day, she was the only person who knew about it. Human beings are full of contradictions. I still kept in touch with this coach these past few years. He had taught me for some time, so every year I still wished him happy birthday. Am I insane? How could I wish the coach who sexually assaulted me happy birthday every year? I don't know. Perhaps I thought I could deceive myself, tell myself that this never happened. But I couldn't lie to my body. After that, every time he came close to me, my body would tell me to move back. After that, physical contact was limited to just patting on the head. When I grew up, I'd sometimes come into contact with him, and I'd force myself to say a few words but all I wanted to do was run away. And this only brought about a bunch of gossip about how I was rude and didn't understand the concept of gratitude. After I decided to tell my story, I spent a lot of time debating whether to describe my experiences in detail. On one hand, I didn't want people to put the emphasis on the act itself, but on the other, I wanted everyone to know that the aggressor will rationalize everything and use the victim's trust for him to achieve his goal. I have yet to hear of cases of sexual assault or indecency in the Hong Kong sporting world, but I believe that similar cases do exist. If you unfortunately, like me, have gone through a similar experience, I hope that you will pluck up the courage, seek support from those around you, and no longer be lenient toward offenders. In Chinese culture, topics related to sex have always been considered awkward, embarrassing, and not something you should talk about openly in the the public. Come forward — your courage will affect a lot of people who have travelled down the same road, the same way McKayla did for me. As to my family and those who care about me, please don't blame yourself. Don't feel guilty, because your trust, like mine, was taken advantage of. It wasn't my fault, it wasn't my parents' fault, and it definitely wasn't the school's fault. It was the fault of my offender. As a victim, I don't feel shame. I don't want you to feel sad for me. I want you to applaud me for my courage. "I am not broken. It was not my fault. I am growing strong. I refuse silence." These are the words of a #MeToo victim, and the words of my heart. Today is my 23rd birthday. Telling the truth is a form of release. It's me transitioning from a victim to a survivor. It's a birthday present to myself. If you want to wish me well and show you care, then I hope you will share this post so that the #MeToo movement continues to burn on, touching more people who have been affected and showing the true faces of the offenders. "Is it possible to put an end to this type of abuse? Our silence has given the wrong people power for too long, and it is time to take our power back. And remember, it is never too late to speak up." — McKayla Maroney, 2017 Lui Lai Yiu 11/30/2017" [Image via Facebook.].....»»

Steelers" Alejandro Villanueva Says He "Made a Mistake" By Standing Alone for Anthem

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva was the only member of the team to come out of the tunnel and stand for the National Anthem this weekend. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old, who was an Army Ranger and served in Afghanistan, now regrets his decision. “There was disagreement in what we were going to do. And the only course of action was to go inside and remove ourself from the situation. It was never to disrespect the national anthem. Every single one of my teammates is extremely supportive and extremely patriotic in this locker room. And I can not only say that for this locker room, but I can say that across the NFL, every single player that I’ve gone against,” Alejandro said during a press conference. “I would say that my personal thoughts about the situation is that regardless of this plan, very few players knew that I was going to the tunnel because I only asked the team leadership. And because of that I did not give them an opportunity to stand with me during the national anthem. That is the very embarrassing part of my end in what transpired, because when everybody sees an image of me standing by myself, everybody thinks that the team, the Steelers, are not behind me, and that’s absolutely wrong,” Alejandro continued. “It’s quite the opposite. They all would have … actually the entire team would have been out there with me, even the ones who wanted to take a knee would have been with me had they known these extreme circumstances that at Soldier Field, in the heat of the moment, when I’ve got soldiers, wounded veterans texting me that I have to be out there, I think everything would have been put aside, from every single one of my teammates, no doubt.” “So because of that, I’ve made Coach Tomlin look bad, and that is my fault, and that is my fault only. I made my teammates look bad, and that is my fault, and my fault only. And I made the Steelers also look bad, and that is my fault, and my fault only. So unwillingly, I made a mistake,” Alejandro continued. “I talked to my teammates about the situation, hopefully they understand it. If they don’t, I still have to live with it, because the nature of this debate is causing a lot of very heated reaction from fans from players, and it’s undeserving to all of the players and coaches from this organization….Unfortunately, I threw them under the bus unintentionally.”.....»»

The 15-year-old actress plays the role of Janice, a young orphan who gets possessed by the soul living in the doll Annabelle. Read her 10 Fun Facts below: 1. If I wasn’t acting I would probably want to be a photographer. I have a Polaroid camera, which I take everywhere with me, snapping photos throughout the day. My favorite pictures that I take, I put up on my bedroom wall. 2. I like to collect trinkets. I usually look for one when I’m having a good day, so I can have something that will remind me of that time. Sometimes I’ll just find a piece of metal that looks cool and add that to my collection. 3. I need the cold air of a fan blowing on my face, or else I won’t be able to fall asleep. So when I travel for my career, I take a mini portable fan with me so I can sleep. 4. If black was a color it would be my favorite, but since it isn’t, my favorite color is dark purple, like a chaotic purple. 5. My favorite fruits are, mangos, watermelon, blueberries and green grapes. Not in that order. Click inside for the rest of Talitha Bateman’s fun facts… 6. When I’m not acting I spend most of my time hiking, at martial arts, or hanging out with my family. 7. I’m the second youngest in my family, but I feel like I’m the eldest, because I’m kind of a control freak so I’m constantly bossing my siblings around. 8. I love the cold. My favorite season is winter and my favorite types of days are rainy and cloudy ones. 9. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I get so lost into the world of whatever book I’m reading, that’s why I love reading. Because I can be sitting in my bedroom but my mind can be in a whole different place. 10. My favorite animal is an arctic fox. They’re beautiful, extremely clever, love exploring and picky eaters, like me. Go see Annabelle: Creation, in theaters this weekend!.....»»

Johnson plays adventurer Dr. Smolder Bravestone in the flick, and Hart’s role also has a memorable moniker (he plays zoologist Moose Finbar). When asked about his favorite moment in the film, Johnson joked about one of his many sequences with Hart. “There’s a scene where Kevin and I have a little bit of a disagreement and I have to put him in his place,” said Johnson. “I put him in his place physically and I give him a little push and because it’s Smolder Bravestone he has super powers and Kevin goes 30 feet crashing into a wall. That’s my favorite. Any time I can see pain on Kevin’s face, I’m happy.” Click on the media bar to hear Johnson talk about the anchoring aspect of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’s narrative: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle opens nationwide December 20.
