Demi Lovato Gives Herself Some Self Love After Revealing She Doesn"t Like Being Labeled As Bipolar

The A-lister made this point while chatting with Elvis Duran for a recent episode of iHeartRadio's Label Defiers podcast. Specifically, the former Disney darling expressed her frustrations with regularly being labeled as "bipolar." Related: Kanye Wants $10 Million For His Mental Breakdown! The Sorry Not Sorry singer explained: "I think when people refer to me as being bipolar, it's something that's true – I am bipolar – but I don't like people to use it as a label. It's something that I have, it's not who I am." Instead, the 24-year-old favors being called an "activist" as it is a far more encouraging label. Hmmm, inneresting point. In case you forgot, back in 2011, Demi entered a treatment program in order to get help for her substance abuse, eating disorder, and self harm problems. While in the mental health facility, Lovato was diagnosed as bipolar -- a diagnosis she's been very vocal about. On why she chose to become an advocate for mental health awareness and other causes, the industry vet added: "I think it's very important that people raise the importance of mental health because it's something that's so taboo to talk about... The more people know about it, the more people are going to be able to find solutions to what they're going through." Not to mention, following Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington's recent suicides, the Stone Cold artist feels it's particularly important to "speak up" these days. She continued: "It's a very unfortunate situation and I feel terrible for [Bennington's] friends and family, but I know that maybe this will raise the topic into conversation around mental illness and mental health and help somebody. It's important to speak up about the things you believe in, because your voice will be heard no matter what position you're in. I just happen to be in a position where more people would hear my voice than they would have 10-15 years ago, so I use my voice to do more than just sing." In addition to building the spirits of her fans, Demi is focused on maintaining her own health and happiness. On Tuesday, the hitmaker took to Instagram to give herself some love as she posted a fit AF pic (above). Alongside the snap of her toned abs, the former child star wrote: "I rarely post pics with my belly button showing because I'm normally insecure about showing my full stomach but I've been working really hard and thanks to @d.leith and his yummy food with @lockhartandleith I've been seeing progress so I thought I'd post this cause I'm feeling myself right now!! 😝💁🏻💪🏼 also can't forget the best gym in the world @unbreakableperformance and my train." Way to feel yourself, girl. [Image via Instagram.].....»»

The 40-year-old actress talked with musician Josh Ostrander on the July 31 episode of the podcast and she said she related to his feeling of “solitude.” “I play a character on Mom, I play a character in movies, but I also play a public character,” Anna said. “There’s definitely a loneliness and, like, an internal element to being a performer. I feel like I have to laugh.” “I play a public character,” she added. “I laugh loud sometimes — maybe too loud but it is a public character sometimes. Like, if I have a red carpet thing or whatever, which I’m never comfortable, but I’m always like, ‘I’m fine!’ And it never feels like me.” Anna said that she also doesn’t ever look back at photos of herself on the red carpet. He was 84 years old. Related: More Details On What Killed Deadpool 2 Stuntwoman The sharp, incisive stand-up comedian helped to pioneer the art while also becoming an impactful civil rights activist in his lifetime, and will not be soon forgotten by the comedy world for his incredible influence on comedians and acts over the last several decades and on into today's time. His son, Christian Gregory, released a statement through his father's rep about the passing: "It is with enormous sadness that the Gregory family confirms that their father, comedic legend and civil rights activist Mr. Dick Gregory departed this earth tonight in Washington, D.C. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and love and respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time." So sad. And his publicist of fifty years, Steve Jaffe, spoke to THR about Gregory's death, too, adding: "He was one of the sweetest, smartest, most loving people one could ever know. I just hope that God is ready for some outrageously funny times." Reportedly, Gregory's funeral service details will be released at some point today. He had been hospitalized recently for health issues. Gregory's career took him all over from his St. Louis home across the world, and he was regularly the first African-American comedian to perform in front of white audiences. He landed appearances on all the top TV talk shows of the 1960s and 1970s, as well. And interestingly enough, one of his big breaks came from Hugh Hefner, who in 1961 paid Gregory $50 -- then a considerable sum -- to perform at the Playboy Club in downtown Chicago. Related: Victims Of Barcelona Attack Identified One of Gregory's legendary jokes at the time went like this: "Last time I was down South, I walked into this restaurant, and this white waitress came up to me and said, 'We don't serve colored people here.' I said, 'That's all right, I don't eat colored people. Bring me a whole fried chicken.'" Ha!!! The crowd during that show was mostly white executives from a frozen food company, and the reportedly loved him -- leading Hefner to keep booking Gregory for what turned out to be three more years, leading to more and more attention on the comedy circuit for his witty, smart comedy.
