While the latest spinoff is a lot like Bachelor In Paradise, it offers a lot more to the show as there are cute coats, wintry games, and yummy foreigners. Sadly, the series is only four episodes long *SIGH*. Related: Arie Luyendyk Jr. Says Ciao To Three Women Don't fret though, because the drama has already kicked into high gear. And, by drama, we mean Ashley Iaconetti has already cried A BUNCH!!! So let's get into the specifics... After a fun parade and concert, the group of contestants moved their beautiful behinds into their cute little winter residence. Not only did the group start prepping for their first event (which involved both skiing and shooting), the competitors moved to start forming connections. In short: they all started making out with one another. Specifically, the couples that paired off were Dean Unglert and Lesley Murphy, Bibiana Julian and Kevin Wendt, and Josiah Graham and Ally Thompson. They move quickly, don't they?? Luke Pell, along with Canadians Benoit Beauséjour-Savard and Wendt, flourished during the physical biathlon event. But it was Mr. Wendt who nabbed the first date card. As for the female contestants, Swede Rebecca Carlson scored her date card pretty easily. Ashley I. responded to Kevin winning the date card in the most EXTREME way, as she started having a meltdown over whether or not she'd be invited on the outing. Although Bibiana already formed a cozy connection with the Canadian hunk, Ashley I. defended that she too felt VERY strongly for him. Girl, you just met. Calm down. Between Ashley I.'s screams and wails about being friendzoned, Bibiana was invited on a date by Kevin. Luke was also asked out by, you guessed it, date card holder Rebecca. Footage from the dates were only minutes long and, in truth, not very interesting. But everyone seemed to have a nice time. Right as we were getting emotionally invested in this winter dating venture, Chris Harrison announced some shocking news about the rose ceremony -- that it'd be elimination style, à la Survivor. If you're confused, Harrison made sure to explain that every person in the house had to vote for someone they didn't think was there for the right reasons. SAVAGE, and we love it. Ultimately, Eric Bigger, Zoe Tang, Laura Blair, Lauren Griffin, and Jamey Kocan were all sent home. See ya, wouldn't want to be ya!! Be sure to study that Bachelor Winter Games anthem, because BWG returns THIS THURSDAY at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. [Image via ABC.].....»»

It seems there were many interruptions to Bachelor in Paradise last night – in the New York-metro area, viewers didn’t even get a chance to see the show as the New York Giants football game was on instead. Chris Harrison warned fans that this would be happening, writing, “Sadly The President’s speech will eclipse #BachelorInParadise tonight. But ABC will be showing it later for those that get Trump’d.” Click inside to see fan reactions to Donald Trump’s speech showing during Bachelor in Paradise… I didn't think we could drag out the #BachelorInParadise rose ceremony anymore, but then Trump comes on TV 🙄🙄🙄 pic.twitter.com/0QmhLEp7gM — Castle Williams (@WxCastle) August 22, 2017 Alright Trump has done some sketchy shit before but interrupting Bachelor in Paradise is way over the line man #ImpeachTrump — Dana Sutton (@d_suttonn) August 22, 2017 Bachelor nation: WE ARE FINALLY GETTING A ROSE CEREMONY !!!Donald Trump: #BachelorinParadise pic.twitter.com/3tUBLEY2qG — me llamo yulithza ✨ (@yulixa3jo) August 22, 2017 Me: I don't think Trump can get any worse. EIGHT Competitors Leave Bachelor Winter Games — But That"s Not Why Ben Higgins Is Crying!

EIGHT contestants went home on Tuesday's Bachelor Winter Games. No wonder the season is only four episodes long. The most recent episode of the Bachelor spinoff kicked off with a downhill skiing event — which didn't go over well for many. Related: January Jones Reveals Nick Viall Is ONLY 'A Friend' Nonetheless, Dean Unglert and current flame Lesley [...] EIGHT contestants went home on Tuesday's Bachelor Winter Games. No wonder the season is only four episodes long. The most recent episode of the Bachelor spinoff kicked off with a downhill skiing event -- which didn't go over well for many. Related: January Jones Reveals Nick Viall Is ONLY 'A Friend' Nonetheless, Dean Unglert and current flame Lesley Murphy both flourished at the wintry sport and each received date cards. As they're already paired off, they generously gave their spare date card to Ashley Iaconetti and Kevin Wendt. This made Ashley BEYOND thrilled as she previously worried about being "friend zoned" by Kevin. And Miz Iaconetti certainly made the most of her date as she informed the Canadian hunk about her virginity status. Although the podcaster was concerned that this truth bomb would turn Kevin off, he actually handled the news really well. After telling Ashley he respected her decision to keep her hymen intact, the twosome cozied up and made some clay pots à la Ghost. Get yours, girl!! Sadly, not everyone was having luck finding love on BWG. Tiffany Scanlon realized she wasn't meeting anyone special and chose to bounce from the house. That decision made Ben Higgins reevaluate what he was doing on the show. In fact, Higgins had a revelation that he just wasn't ready to date even if someone special popped up at the house. Despite being over ex fiancée Lauren Bushnell, Ben realized he wasn't over the heartbreak. After a chat with Chris Harrison, the perfect Ben noted tearfully: "As much as I've moved on and I have, it still hurts." Through more tears, Ben made his goodbyes and admitted the house brought back "ghosts." Ben's exit was followed by Yuki Kimura and Michael Garofola's departure. So who was left?? Since only couples were left by the time the rose ceremony arrived, Harrison decided to make the moment ANOTHER competition opportunity. Yup, instead of a rose ceremony, the couples were tasked with participating in a kissing contestant. To make things even more awkward, the judges for the competition were some of the competitors exes. Specifically, Rachel Lindsay, Arie Luyendyk Jr., and JoJo Fletcher were tasked with ranking the smooches. Oh, and whomever came in last was being sent home. Understandably, the contestants were uncomfortable AF about locking lips with their new loves in front of their former flames. But they sucked it up, and did it anyway. Here are some highlights from the kissing competition... Christian Rauch and Clare Crawley chose to withdraw from the contest altogether as they had never kissed before (and had a nasty fight earlier). Byeeee! Dean and Lesley did a little dance routine before their kiss, and it was not great. Ashley and Kevin went ALL IN with a hot and heavy makeout session. Bibiana Julian and Jordan Mauger, as well as Luke Pell and Stassi Yaramchuk, went with a tender, slow moving kiss. Josiah Graham and Ally Thompson ended up in last place, which is probably a good thing, since the New Zealand resident later revealed they never really had a deep connection. Don't worry, y'all! There's always Paradise. Be sure to ch-ch-check out Bachelor Winter Games' finale when it airs this Thursday on ABC at 8 p.m. ET. [Image via ABC.].....»»

No, really!! Video: Arie Jokes About Bekah M.'s Missing Persons Mix Up! As of writing this post, 12 couples have been formed thanks to Bachelor nation shows. Whether it was on the OG show or on one of the spinoffs, 24 people have found their special someone on a reality TV show. So bananas!! Curious to discover who has made it?? Learn the contestants who are still going strong (below)... 12. Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter Sweet Sweet Vacation.A post shared by Ryan Sutter (@ryansutter) on Jan 14, 2018 at 5:26pm PST Trista was the first ever Bachelorette. So it's kind of perfect that she actually found her happily ever after with husband Ryan on the show. Rehn was a previous Bachelor veteran as she had appeared on the competition's first season. She and Sutter wed in a televised ceremony in December 2003. They've since welcomed two children and live in Colorado. 11. Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney 💏🎉💖 @jasonmesnickA post shared by Molly Mesnick (@mollymesnick) on Jan 1, 2018 at 1:25pm PST Jason and Molly were quite the controversial couple on season 13 of The Bachelor. Why?? Well, because, originally Mesnick had given the final rose to Melissa Rycroft. After he couldn't stop thinking about Malaney, he dumped Melissa and declared his love to Molly on the reunion show. In March 2010, Jason and Molly tied the knot. They now have a daughter, named Riley Anne. 10. Ashley Hebert and JP Rosenbaum Finally. 👫A post shared by Ashley Hebert Rosenbaum (@ashleylynnrosenbaum) on Dec 6, 2017 at 2:02pm PST What a happy ending. Ashley was named season seven's Bachelorette after getting rejected by Brad Womack. Regardless, she met JP on her season and they got engaged at the very end. The love birds were wed in a (you guessed it) televised special in December 2012. They are now parents to two kids, son Fordham and daughter Essex. 9. Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici I love all 3 of these people so much. Catherine, Arie & Samuel - in that order. Tonight, my pal @ariejr begins his search for love. Or at least an engagement that lasts a few months. But hopefully real, everlasting love.A post shared by Sean Lowe (@seanloweksu) on Jan 1, 2018 at 9:35am PST After losing out on love during Emily Maynard's season of The Bachelorette, Sean was brought on to be season 17's Bachelor. Thankfully, this stint on TV was more successful as he met now wife Catherine, whom he proposed to at the end of the season. They are now married with a son, named Samuel Thomas, and are expecting another child. 8. Desiree Hartsock and Chris Siegfried Hope everyone had a beautiful Christmas Day yesterday! Blessings to you and yours from our little fam bam. 😘A post shared by Desiree (Hartsock) Siegfried (@desireesiegfried) on Dec 26, 2017 at 8:43am PST Fans were REALLY rooting for Desiree to find love after Sean Lowe dumped her on The Bachelor. Don't worry, she did! During her stint on The Bachelorette, she met Siegfried and they got married in January 2015. They are now parents to a son, named Asher. 7. Kaitlyn Bristowe and Shawn Booth Central Park at Christmas time is MAGICAL AF. And yes, we were cold. But we did it for the gram. . Thank you Amanda in New York City for @flytographer #merrychristmasA post shared by Kaitlyn Bristowe (@kaitlynbristowe) on Dec 24, 2017 at 9:14am PST Kaitlyn chose Shawn as her final suitor and, in typical Bachelorette fashion, the twosome got engaged in 2015. They are still going strong, but aren't rushing to get married (which is probably why they're still together)! 6. Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert Just a Paradise baby chillin' in paradise. @sugarbeachviceroy #sugarbeachresidences Lots of questions about our stay, so @sugarbeachviceroy decided to offer a special rate for our following! Enjoy up to 20% off your room rate, a complimentary bottle of champagne on arrival and a couple’s cabana massage. Telephone +1 758 456 8000 or email sb.reservations@viceroyhotelsandresorts.com Code will be Paradise. 💗A post shared by Jade Tolbert (@jadelizroper) on Jan 13, 2018 at 2:50pm PST The first Bachelor In Paradise success story! After being castoffs on their respective seasons, Jade and Tanner met and fell in love during season two of Paradise. Although other couples got "married" and engaged on the spinoff show, these two were the first to have a legal union that lasted. They now are parents to a daughter, named Emerson Avery Tolbert. 5. JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers Fam taking on the wild 👫🐶A post shared by JoJo Fletcher (@joelle_fletcher) on Jan 13, 2018 at 5:13pm PST After an emotional season, JoJo accepted Jordan's proposal at the end of her stint on The Bachelorette. The twosome couldn't be happier and have talked about their potential wedding plans, but they've yet to lock in a date. Keep enjoying your lengthy engagement, y'all! 4. Carly Waddell and Evan Bass It’s all fun and games until your zipper breaks and your husband has to cut you out of your maternity dress..... 😩🤣😳A post shared by Carly Waddell (@carlywad) on Dec 23, 2017 at 8:00am PST Despite being repulsed by Evan at first, by the end of their stint on Bachelor In Paradise, the two were in love and getting engaged. Carly and Evan's 2017 nuptials were filmed and televised as part of the next season of BIP. They're now pregnant and awaiting the arrival of their baby girl. 3. Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo Merry Christmas from us to you 🎄🤶🏾🎅🏼❤️ #tistheseason #merrychristmas #familyphotosA post shared by Rachel Lindsay (@therachlindsay) on Dec 25, 2017 at 2:08pm PST Bachelor nation was up in arms when Rachel dumped Peter Kraus and accepted Bryan's marriage proposal. But it seems that the powerhouse lawyer made the right call, as she and her chiropractor beau are still engaged. No wedding plans as of yet though! 2. Taylor Nolan and Derek Peth NYC is starting to grow on me...or maybe it’s just @pethderek 🤷🏽‍♀️A post shared by Taylor Nolan (@taymocha) on Jan 28, 2018 at 6:45pm PST Before Bachelor In Paradise, Taylor was probably best known for feuding with Corinne Olympios over Nick Viall and emotional intelligence. However, Nolan went on to meet JoJo Fletcher's castoff Derek and the rest is history. Now, the twosome didn't get engaged on Paradise, but they DID get betrothed on the reunion special. 1. Raven Gates and Adam Gottschalk We're lit 🎄A post shared by ravennicolegates (@ravennicolegates) on Dec 16, 2017 at 6:33pm PST Despite being on a chaotic season of Bachelor In Paradise, Raven and Adam walked away totally in love. Thankfully, their connection lasted well outside of Mexico and the two are going strong. Fingers crossed an engagement is in the works!! Which Bachelor nation couple is YOUR favorite?? The ABC spinoff aired on both Tuesday and Thursday this week, and we got to see love triangles established and destroyed as the contestants dipped their toes into the dating waters. Luke was deciding between Stassi and Rebecca after making a connection with both -- but he ultimately went with Stassi after they bonded over heart issues. She ended up taking him out after receiving the date card, and it seems like the rest might be history... for now. Related: Bachelor/ette Couples That Have ACTUALLY Made It! After much back and forth, Dean seemed to have learned his lesson from Bachelor In Paradise and made a commitment to Lesley. They grow up so fast. Kevin was quite the gentleman when he ended things with Bibiana so that he could feel comfortable kissing Ashley I. So chivalrous! LOLz. But don't feel bad for Bibiana, she quickly formed a relationship with New Zealand Bachelor, Jordan Mauger, who is infamous for choosing the winner of his season by flipping a coin. Classy. Robert Rodriguez Says He Cast Rose McGowan In Grindhouse To SPITE Harvey Weinstein — And The Movie Got "Buried" Because Of Her!

We've heard lots of stories over the past couple weeks from women Harvey Weinstein scared into silence. But what would have happened if they fought back? But what would have happened if they fought back? Video: Rose McGowan's Powerful Speech At The Detroit Women's Convention According to Robert Rodriguez, he did try to help Rose McGowan beat Harvey's "blacklisting" of her -- by casting her in his Weinstein Company-funded film Grindhouse. In fact, in an official essay for Variety, he reveals the plot of his half of the throwback double feature with Quentin Tarantino was inspired by her story, something he could never talk about before: "I have not previously discussed what I knew about the 1997 incident that Rose suffered in a hotel room during the Sundance Film Festival. I never wanted to do anything that jeopardized a legal settlement she entered into with Harvey Weinstein. Now that she's able to tell her story, I want to provide an account of what I knew, when I knew it, and what I did about it." Rodriguez says he first learned of her "blacklisting" at Cannes in 2005, when she explained to him why she hadn't auditioned for Sin City. She told him the whole story of the assault -- and the subsequent legal action: "Rose told me that all she could do at the time was to get Harvey Weinstein to donate money to an abused women's shelter and in return she had to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that forbade her from talking about the horrific violation without being sued, and that she shouldn't even be telling me. To add insult to injury, she told me that she was blacklisted from even auditioning for any Weinstein movies." That's when the director got PISSED -- and decided to go renegade: "I then revealed to Rose right then and there that I was about to start writing a movie with Quentin Tarantino, a double feature throwback to 70's exploitation movies, and that if she was interested, I would write her a BAD ASS character and make her one of the leads. I wanted her to have a starring role in a big movie to take her OFF the blacklist, and the best part is that we would have Harvey's new Weinstein Company pay for the whole damn thing." But they got to throw it in Harvey's face sooner than they were expecting: "Just as I finished telling Rose this, I saw Harvey walking around the party! I called Harvey over to our table, and as soon as he got close enough to see that I was sitting with Rose, his face dropped and went ghostly white. I said, "Hey Harvey, this is Rose McGowan. I think she's amazing and really talented and I'm going to cast her in my next movie." Harvey then dribbled all over himself in the most over the top performance I'd ever seen as he gushed, "Oh she's wonderful, oh she's amazing, oh she's fantastic, oh she's so talented… You two should definitely work together." And then he skittered off. I knew right then that every word Rose told me was true, you could see it all over his face." They made the film, a star-studded, strangely meta movie that played like two '70s B movies, complete with fake trailers for other movies made by friends like Eli Roth and Edgar Wright. It was crazy and long and ahead of its time -- and Rose is spectacular in it. Unfortunately it completely tanked at the box office. Rodriguez still believes Harvey's vendetta against Rose is what kept the movie from even being given a fighting chance with a proper ad campaign, etc. He explains: "But because of the NDA Rose told me she had signed, at Rose's request I had to keep it quiet from everyone until now as to why we were even making that film together, especially Harvey. We knew that strategically we couldn't rub it in his face why we were REALLY doing this movie, because then he'd just bury the movie, not sell it well, and everyone would lose. To our horror, Harvey buried our movie anyway, and because we did not want to risk getting sued, we never spoke publicly about the matter... I am still haunted and disillusioned that after all the good intentions, immense pain and struggle Rose and I and so many talented people went through to make the film, that Harvey Weinstein won in the end by burying the movie just because Rose was the lead actress." Robert wishes they could have spoken about the inspiration of the film, the fight behind the scenes before now. And he hopes this new conversation will change things in Hollywood and other businesses: "It's been really difficult to admit and come to terms that the NDA handcuffs forced us to needlessly jump through hoops that today would have been unnecessary because of Rose's fearlessness to speak out, despite the consequences. I hope that new legislation will result in NDAs to be legally null and void in situations where rape and assault have been committed and where power is so unequally distributed." Hear, hear! "Looking back over the years, I have wondered if I would have made the same choices, knowing the bleak outcome. We all suffered greatly on the film, and the journey ended up costing us all more than we ever bargained for. For me personally, it cost me my marriage of 16 years, my family, a large dose of sanity, and for years I have grappled with the sobering idea that maybe I made a grave error in standing up at all, when no one was even asking me to." OK, we have to stop right there -- was it really the movie failing at the box office that cost you your marriage, Robert? Or did dating your star do it? In case you didn't know, Robert and Rose went public with their relationship when the movie came out -- immediately after news of his split with his wife, Elizabeth Avellan, hit. Photos: 10 Movies That Ruined Celebrity Relationships Not the point, we know, but gotta be honest here. Anyway, go on: "I know that's not the message I'd ever want to send out, but it's been hard to justify something that now is clear was a lose/lose situation from the get-go, and that in the end failed and simply caused more damage. The reason I'm saying this is because it's very clear to me now that when someone does what Harvey Weinstein did, the devastation goes far beyond predator and victim. These past few weeks have given me new clarity and hope by seeing the tide finally turn, seeing Harvey finally on the run, and seeing all the brave women who have come forth with their own shocking and distressing stories of abuse. Since I've seen a distinct lack of stories coming from men who may have tried to do the right thing, I wanted to come forth to say that no matter the consequences, no matter how far you have to stick your neck out, no matter what you have to lose, that we must fight the good fight. Everyone has to make a stand and take action." Damn right they do! Because two against the world isn't enough. This fight needs to be ALL of us against them. [Image via Z. CBS News has suspended the veteran journalist and PBS will hold production of his show following the explosive report by The Washington Post. In the report, multiple women claim Rose made lewd phone calls, walked around naked in their presence, or groped their private parts as they worked for or aspired to work for the Charlie Rose show from the late 1990s to as recent as 2011. Related: Armie Hammer SLAMS Casey Affleck's Oscar Win Five of the eight women spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of Rose's power in the industry, though most agreed that Rose switched between flattery and fury in his encounters with them. An unidentified woman who said Rose groped her when she was an intern explained: "Everybody is terrified of him. He creates this environment of constant fear. And then he'll shine a spotlight on you and make you feel amazing." Five women claimed Rose put his hands on their legs, sometimes their upper thigh, in what they took as a test to gauge their reactions. Two said while traveling with Rose, he emerged from the shower and walked naked in front of them. One said he groped her buttocks at a staff party. The 75-year-old reporter issued a response to the allegations, apologizing for the times he acted "insensitively" but maintained he "always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings." Making a point to note that he believes not all of the allegations are true, Rose told the Post: "In my 45 years in journalism, I have prided myself on being an advocate for the careers of the women with whom I have worked. Nevertheless, in the past few days, claims have been made about my behavior toward some former female colleagues. "It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate. I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken. "I have learned a great deal as a result of these events, and I hope others will too. All of us, including me, are coming to a newer and deeper recognition of the pain caused by conduct in the past, and have come to a profound new respect for women and their lives." Sounds like a teleprompter-y apology to us. Nevertheless, here are a few of the women's stories... Related: Jeremy Piven Took A Lie Detector Test After Misconduct Allegations! Reah Bravo was an intern and then associate producer for Rose's PBS show starting in 2007. She recalled multiple sexual advances while working for Rose at his private New York estate or while traveling with him. Now looking through the lens of 2017, she understands what those moments were, telling the paper: "It has taken 10 years and a fierce moment of cultural reckoning for me to understand these moments for what they were. He was a sexual predator, and I was his victim." But she's not the only one. Kyle Godfrey-Ryan was one of Rose's assistants in the mid-aughts. She recalled over a dozen times where she says Rose walked nude in front of her while she worked in one of his NYC homes. She said he even repeatedly called the then-21-year-old late at night to describe his fantasies of her swimming naked in his pool as he watched from the bedroom. Related: Natalie Portman Tricked Into Private Plane Ride ALONE With Producer After ignoring the nudity and the calls, Godfrey-Ryan said she soon reported the incidents to management, but allegedly was brushed off and made to feel "like I was being a dramatic little girl." Eventually, she stopped reporting the incidents to management and confided to a mutual friend outside the show about Rose. The friend told Rose, and Rose reportedly fired her. She explained: "He took me out to lunch and told me how embarrassed he was, how he didn't treat me like that. It was really about how I got it wrong, and, obviously, I couldn't work there anymore." Sounds like there's a pattern. Does this mean even more stories will come out against the CBS veteran? We'll find out soon enough. Head over to The Washington Post to read each woman's story. The Weinstein brothers were involved with the fantasy franchise when their studio Miramax was helping develop the films. The studio didn’t end up green-lighting the movie and the franchise moved to New Line, where the final decisions were made. Harvey‘s rep claims that he had no input on casting as “all casting was done by New Line.” Peter says that during his initial conversations with Weinstein, he brought up Ashley and Mira as possibly casting choices and he was told to “steer clear” of them “because they claimed to have had ‘bad experiences’ with these particular actresses in the past.” “This type of comment is not unusual – it can happen with any studio on any film, when different actor’s names come up in conversation – but once you hear negative feedback about somebody, you don’t forget it,” Peter said in his statement to Deadline. He added, “The movies changed hands from Miramax to New Line before casting actually got underway – but because we had been warned off Ashley and Mira by Miramax, and we were naive enough to assume we’d been told the truth, Fran [Walsh] and I did not raise their names in New Line casting conversations.” Click inside to read the full statement… Read the full statement from Peter Jackson below: Aspects of Harvey’s denial are insincere. He is basically saying that “this blacklisting couldn’t be true because New Line cast the movie”. That’s a deflection from the truth. In the 18 months we developed the Lord of the Rings at Miramax, we had many casting conversations with Harvey Weinstein, Bob Weinstein and their executives. During this period, no offers were made to actors because that occurs after a film is greenlit, and Miramax never greenlit these films. However, many conversations occurred internally regarding potential casting. Fran Walsh and I recall that Morgan Freeman, Paul Scofield, David Bowie, Liam Neeson, Natascha McElhone, Claire Forlani, Francesca Annis, Max von Sydow, and Daniel Day Lewis were some of the names discussed with Miramax for possible roles in The Lord of the Rings movies. Amongst the many names raised, Fran and I expressed our enthusiasm for Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino. In fact we met with Ashley and discussed two possible roles with her. After this meeting we were told by Miramax to steer clear of both Ashley and Mira, because they claimed to have had “bad experiences” with these particular actresses in the past. Fran Walsh was in the same meeting, and remembers these negative comments about Ashley and Mira as clearly as I do. We have no reason to make it up. This type of comment is not unusual – it can happen with any studio on any film, when different actor’s names come up in conversation – but once you hear negative feedback about somebody, you don’t forget it. We were not in a position to offer Ashley or Mira a role in the movies, but we attempted to have their names added to a list, for when casting began. Each role can have many actors names listed for future auditions and meetings. In these film maker/studio relationships, there has to be consensus in casting choices – either side can generally veto suggested names for various reasons, and in pre-Lord of the Rings days, we didn’t have the power to override the studio on casting choices. The movies changed hands from Miramax to New Line before casting actually got underway – but because we had been warned off Ashley and Mira by Miramax, and we were naive enough to assume we’d been told the truth, Fran and I did not raise their names in New Line casting conversations. Nearly 20 years later, we read about the sexual misconduct allegations being made against Harvey Weinstein and we saw comments by both Mira and Ashley, who felt they had been blacklisted by Miramax after rejecting Harvey’s sexual advances. Fran and I immediately remembered Miramax’s negative reaction when we put their names forward, and we wondered if we had unwittingly been part of the alleged damage to their careers, at the hands of Miramax. We have no direct evidence linking Ashley and Mira’s allegations to our Lord of the Rings casting conversations of 20 years ago – but we stand by what we were told by Miramax when we raised both of their names, and we are recounting it accurately. If we were unwitting accomplices in harming their careers, Fran and I unreservedly apologise to both Ashley and Mira......»»
