‘Apes’ Fan Woody Harrelson Has Alternate Take On The Colonel

Having been part of The Hunger Games franchise, Woody Harrelson steps into one of cinema's most iconic stories with War for the Planet of the Apes. "You could easily look at the [...] Having been part of The Hunger Games franchise, Woody Harrelson steps into one of cinema’s most iconic stories with War for the Planet of the Apes. He plays the Colonel, the main antagonist of the film who leads a wide scale and seemingly final battle against the Apes. “You could easily look at the Colonel as a bad guy,” said Harrelson, who starred earlier this year in Wilson. “But I kind of look at him as a guy who feels called upon to do something great and important in this uncertain world.” The original Planet of the Apes films had its share of memorable performances (Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall), and the latest string of films has also carved out wonderful work from its ensemble (most notably John Lithgow in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and of course Andy Serkis as Caesar in the both Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes). Hopefully War for the Planet of the Apes continues to carry the high level of storytelling as the previous installments. Click on the media bar below to hear Harrelson talk about being a fan of the franchise. War for the Planet of the Apes opens July 14. ‘War For The Planet of The Apes’ Blu-Ray Reveals Malcolm’s Fate

Although the picture grossed over $490 million worldwide, the feature was still one of this year’s more underrated films (its predecessor, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, grossed over $710 million worldwide). Along with another excellent performance from Andy Serkis as Caesar, Harrelson was also memorable as the antagonist, and their anti-climactic final conflict, at least in my opinion, was one of this year’s most surprising cinematic moments. Click on the media bar below to hear Serkis talk about the “brilliantly real” CGI behind War for the Planet the Apes: The Blu-ray’s special features include audio commentary from director Matt Reeves, several featurettes on the making of the film, and a plethora of deleted scenes (with optional commentary from Reeves). One of the deleted scenes, however, is worth watching especially if you’re a fan of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The sequence features a discussion between Caesar and the Colonel which deals with the ultimate fate of Malcolm (Jason Clarke). War for the Planet of the Apes is now out on on Blu-Ray and DVD. Andy Serkis Gets An Eyeful With ‘War For The Planet of The Apes’ Visuals

It's hard for Andy Serkis to top his work as Gollum in director Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, but he's reached similar creative heights as sheltered ape turned leader Caesar in the latest Planet of the Apes films. War for the Planet of the Apes puts a cinematic exclamation point on the trilogy as it’s the finest film of the lot. Part of the franchise’s success comes from director Matt Reeves who helmed War and 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. “He was very willing to take it as far as he could,” said Serkis. “And we completely connected. He’s all about discovering the scenes and properly rehearsing the scene with apes as actors and finding the beat and rehearsing scenes with the crew standing around waiting to shoot. He would always wait until the moment was right and . . . that  everybody (understood) what that scene was about.” Click on the media bar to hear Serkis talks about the incredible use of CGI in the film, especially when it comes to capturing the apes’ eyes. This time out Caesar (Andy Serkis) is on a mission of both revenge and survival as a ruthless military leader known as the Colonel (Woody Harrelson) is focused on eliminating the apes from the face of the Earth. Though Serkis has been roundly praised for his work as Caesar, his work may be underrated due to the eye catching performance capture and CGI that’s infused in the franchise. “What (Serkis) is at the forefront of is being a great actor,” He’s one of the best actors in the world. The reason people respond so emotionally to Caesar is behind Caesar is Andy Serkis’ performance which is remarkable.” Click on the media to hear Reeves talk about how empathy is a huge theme that’s explored in the Apes trilogy: War for the Planet of the Apes opens nationwide July 14. The 54-year-old actress is the latest to speak out about the disgraced film producer’s sexual harassment and assault allegations this past week. “Yeah, it’s true,” Felicity told TooFab last night (October 12) at the Eva Longoria Foundation Gala in Los Angeles. “He was the mastermind behind Marchesa – orchestrating deals and using his influence in terms of the celebrity connections for her on behalf of the brand,” a publicist has told The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that “[Harvey] and [Georgina] both benefited from the relationship, but she certainly knew about his bad behavior.” L.A.-based designer Kevan Hall, who worked with Felicity on numerous occasions, added, “I was disappointed when she told me that she could not wear my gown for her nomination for Transamerica because the ‘godfather’ said she had to wear ‘his girlfriend’s collection.’” Sienna Miller also reportedly had to wear Marchesa when she sat with Harvey and Georgina at the Golden Globes, as “he would be very upset if she didn’t wear Marchesa,” according to another publicist. It was recently announced that Georgina is separating from Harvey. Read what she had to say here......»»

Hopefully Andy Serkis will receive an Oscar nomination for his work as Caesar, and Woody Harrelson also does fine work as Caesar’s adversary The Colonel. Amiah Miller should also receive her share of attention as Nova, the youth who is discovered by Caesar and his fellow apes during their search for The Colonel. Nova is unable to speak a word (due to a spoiler I’m not willing to divulge), but through her actions she gradually fits in with Caesar’s clan. Miller, who appreciated director Matt Reeves’ “soft spoken” yet focused approach to directing, was surprised when she was the final cut of the film. “It’s crazy because I pictured something in my head reading the script,” said Miller. “And it turned out 1,000 times better when I first saw it. Click on the media bar below to hear Amiah Miller discuss how, when she auditioned for the film, she had no idea it was an Apes installment!! War for the Planet of the Apes opens July 14.
